Woodvale Park, Belfast - Places To Visit In Northern Ireland
From the beautiful gardens and parks that are located in Belfast, Northern Ireland, there is Woodvale Park with the different greenery scenes that are found inside and always succeed at attracting people to them.
Woodvale Park in Belfast is the home to Woodvale Park Playing Fields. Belfast City Council is the one taking care of the park and it is a Victorian Park with landscape flowerbeds and a bandstand. The park is one of the interesting parks for tourists to visit in the city, but there are also two football pitches, a 7-a-side soccer area, two bowling greens and a pavilion, a children's playground with toddlers play area, an outdoor exercise area, a community garden and a number of allotment plots, which means that it is not just a top attraction park for tourists, but it is also a top attraction place for the local people.
Part of this park was also sold to Belfast Corporation by Reverend Glover in 1888, who lived in Woodvale House, towards the south of the park, near Woodvale Avenue. One of the interesting things to be spotted there is the Peace Tree which won Northern Ireland Tree of the year in 2015 and which is one that people love to check especially after winning this award.
Recently, there was one interesting addition to the place which is a new kids' trail in the park, known as The Elf and Fairy Trail, this trail is set to change the theme over the year, such as a bunny trail for Easter for example. There are lots of interesting things to attract the kids in such trails, such as the activity book which they will fill in. From the core parts of this trail, there is the fairy tree, the dummy tree and the wishing tree. This is now one of the famous attractions in the city that is believed to bring lots of tourists to it, adding just one park to the list of parks to be visited and checked in Belfast city.
We have visited some other parks in Belfast city before and these include Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park which is believed to be one of the most famous in the city ( Colin Glen Forest Park with its famous trail Gruffalo Trail that attracts lots of people and kids to it ( Lagan Valley Park that is also located in Belfast city ( Ormeau Park ( Belvoir Park ( Victoria Park ( Clement Wilson Park ( and lots of other parks scattered all around the city that visitors could go to and check. Northern Ireland is actually believed to be one of the cities with the biggest number of parks and gardens (green areas in general) that people could choose one from to go to, enjoy the green areas and let the kids enjoy their time while playing there.
Belfast, Northern Ireland has almost more than 40 public parks and every single one of them is more beautiful than the other. These different parks and other open spaces are conserved and managed by the Forest of Belfast which is a partnership between the government and some local groups.
One of the most popular parks found in Belfast is the Botanic Gardens in the Queen's Quarter, and then come the other different parks and gardens which we have already stated some of them above. The park coming right after the Botanic Gardens in popularity is Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park which is also visited by lots of tourists and even local people.
Woodvale Park is a traditional City Park which provides a range of passive and active recreation. This park was the fourth public park when it opened back in 1888, and it has been one of the main parks for the people of Greater Shankill Area that it was even due to be called Shankill Park but the name was changed to Woodvale Park in the last minute.
Back when the park was first opened, there was a large pond inside which was used back then by the local people in winter for skating, but it was then changed to a children's play area after the Second World War. This is just a prove for the importance of this park located in Belfast city in Northern Ireland and one reason it stands as one of the top parks that are visited there.

Victoria Park Belfast, Northern Ireland - 360 Degree Video
Victoria Park was opened in 1906 in the Connswater area of Belfast and today it is a popular park in the city. Often used by runners for park runs and family events - if you want to escape from the city for a few hours - it's a good place to go. From the things that attract visitors to this park is the lake and there are two walking trails which rotate around the lake.
There are lots of parks that are scattered all around Belfast, Northern Ireland, and we have to say that sometimes in the middle of a trip to a specific country, passing by a park at some point to enjoy a walk among the green spaces or even passing by a river is needed. One of the top parks found in Belfast is Victoria Park!
There is a history behind creating this park in Belfast and it all started back in 1854 when the idea was suggested by the Harbour Commissioner but the progress of bringing this park to life was very slow because the land was very marshy, inaccessible to the public and thus was not considered suitable for being a public park, but working on the idea brought it finally to life in 1906 and was then welcoming the public to come inside and enjoy their time.
In addition to those different fields which are found inside the park and thus calling out for people who want a place to play sports in, there was even an outdoor swimming pool that opened later and was also one of the attractions of this park in Belfast especially for the local people.
Helping people with the sports part of their life, Victoria Park holds a weekly 5k run which is held by Parkrun, this run is free of charge and it is organized by volunteers and is welcoming people of different ages, sizes, shapes and whatever their abilities are. It is always good to make something different out of the public places which are found in the city and that is one of the good uses of Victoria Park in Belfast.
There are different attractions of this park which will differ according to the person and his/her likes and dislikes; there are those who will enjoy walking there, those who will go for a run, others who might aim at this place to sit silently among the sounds of the birds, etc.
From the famous attractions of Victoria Park, its lake is one among the list since it is home to a wide range of water birds, such as swans, geese, ducks, herons and migrant waders - this would make a perfect setting for those who are coming to enjoy sitting by the lake and have some peace of mind. This variety of wildlife led to this park being part of Belfast Lough ASSI (Area of Special Scientific Interest) project.
Among the other interesting things which are related to Victoria Park of Belfast, there is the poetry trail which features ten nature-themed poems written by local primary school pupils and etched onto metal plaques around the park.
The playing fields, the lake, the birds and any other thing that might be making this park different than all the others come in addition to the flower and rose beds which are scattered all around the area and make it attractive for just sitting around or having a walk there - so it could be a place for tourists coming to Belfast and want to make something that would free their minds a little bit in the middle of all the trips they would be doing.
This historical park which is surrounded by some modern infrastructure is not the only park to be found in Belfast, Northern Ireland, but there are other ones which we even managed to go and visit some of them. In Belfast, we have been to Lagan Valley Regional Park ( Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park which is from the oldest and the most famous in the city ( Colin Glen Park which is famously known for its Gruffalo Trail and thus is always considered a good hit for the kids ( Ormeau Park ( Belvoir Park Forest ( and the famous Botanic Gardens which are also located in Belfast (
Who out there does not like the idea of a park? It is suitable for all the different members of the family with all their different ages, it is the place for those who want to do some sports, those kids who want to play around in a suitable playground and it is even the place for those who want to go for a walk or those who want to sit in a little bit of a quiet and relaxing place.
Choosing the park which you are going to head to in Belfast will always depend on your location and among the list, Victoria Park will be always a suitable choice if you are considering the idea of a park during your visit and if its close to you.
What do you think about this beautiful park? Are you thinking about heading right there now?

World Travel : Trip 095 - Thailand, riding a moped around Koh Phangan
Movie recorded on an 18 day trip to Thailand and Oman, September 2010.
Undoubtedly one of the best ways {if not quite the safest, lol} of seeing a small Island like Koh Phangan is to hire a moped or motorbike and just zoom along where ever you feel like going.
On this trip we came across a small Chinese Temple and enjoyed a quick look around, not to mention ringing the Chinese Gong which is supposed to bring good luck!

YELLAGONGA (Perth, Western Australia)
Yellagonga Regional Park is in Perth, Western Australia, in the City of Wanneroo and the City of Joondalup. The park was established in 1989 by the Western Australian government and protects 1,400 hectares (3,500 acres) of land, including 550 hectares (1,400 acres) of wetlands -- Lake Joondalup, Beenup Swamp, Walluburnup Swamp and Lake Goollelal.
The park contains heritage buildings, including Perry's Cottage, Cockman House and Luisini Winery, and recreation areas such as Neil Hawkins Park. It is named after Yellagonga, leader of the Mooro people.
Yellagonga Regional Park consists of high elevation sloping dunes, separated by interdunal swales that contain the park's lakes and wetlands. The western side of the park is quite steep, with a central plateau of up to 50 metres (160 ft) elevation. The eastern and southern parts of the park have a gentler slope towards Lake Goollelal and Walluburnup Swamp.
In 1996, the Department of Environmental Protection identified 217 species of flora, including 103 introduced species.
Over 120 bird species have been recorded in the park, with 18 species using the park for breeding grounds. A number of the recorded species are migratory birds recognised under international agreements. Three species of birds found in the park (Carnaby's Cockatoo, Australasian Bittern and Peregrine Falcon) are protected under the Wildlife Conservation Act 1950.
The impact of humans on Yellagonga National Park is extensive in areas. Many areas were previously used for farming and these are still being rehabilitated. The grassed parkland areas have led to the invasion of natural areas by aggressive introduced grass species, and weeds are also an issue. Development of roads, utilities (such as power lines and drainage outlets) and service corridors has degraded the natural landscape. Erosion is also a problem in areas, caused by tracks and pathways created by pedestrians in unsuitable locations such as slopes.
The park contains three locations listed on the Western Australian Heritage Register: Perry's Paddock, Cockman House and Luisini Winery. Two native title claims have also been made on areas of the park by Indigenous Australians.
Panorama of Perry's Paddock
Perry's Paddock, at Lot 1 Ocean Reef Road, is a registered heritage site. Land tenure is held by the Western Australian Planning Commission and it is part of the City of Wanneroo. Perry's Paddock is notable because it is the location of Wanneroo's first land grant, surveyed in 1838, and Picnic Race Days were held at the site in the 1920s. Perry's Cottage was built around 1850 and is an example of a building based on an English design adapted to local conditions. The cottage is currently being restored.
Cockman House is a house built for settler James Cockman around 1870, and it is the oldest residence in Wanneroo. Luisini Winery, located on Lakeway Drive in Kingsley, was built in 1929. There are two heritage trails within Yellagonga Regional Park, the Lake Joondalup Trail and the Yaberoo-Budjara Heritage Trail. The Lake Joondalup Trail explores the development of Wanneroo, and the Yaberoo-Budjara Trail between Lake Joondalup and Yanchep National Park explores areas of significance to Indigenous Australians and European settlement.
