TAIPEI | Eating, Elephant Mountain, Leg Cramps, Sky Lanterns and More Food | 12 Days In Taiwan EP1
Touching down in Taipei, the first episode follows Will on his adventures while based in Taipei. Food is the primary mission on Day 1 as he eats through popular restaurants and a hyper local night market that should not be missed. There was also the hike up to Xiangshan which had glorious views but led to some serious immobilizing leg cramps (HOW EMBARASSING!!!). The second day featured a day trip with MyTaiwanTour to the famous Jiufen as the inspiration for Miyazaki's Spirited Away and Pingxi where sky lantern dreams are made of before finishing the day at the hyper touristy Shilin Night Market.

Taipei things to do ►Watch all our TAIPEI THINGS TO DO videos here:
We are in Taipei (台北), Taiwan (台灣). Today we are visiting Xiangshan (象山) also known as Elephant Mountain or Mount Elephant located in the Xinyi District in Taipei (台北). We plan to walk the Elephant Mountain Hiking Trail also known as Nangang District Hiking Trail to the top viewpoint before sunset to enjoy the magnificent view of Taipei and the very famous Taipei 101 Tower. The view from Elephant Mountain has to be the best view of Taipei city and the Taipei 101 building.
The video begins where we have just arrived at the Xiangshan MRT Station on the very efficient Taipei MRT Train system. From here we show the viewer how to find the way from the MRT Station up to the beginning of Xiangshan (象山) or as most westerners probably call it, Elephant Mountain. We hope you find the Elephant Mountain How to Get there Video useful.

TRAVEL TAIPEI TAIWAN | Most Scenic Hike in Taipei 貓空步道 #11
#Maokong, known for its tea farming and brewing, has held a special place in my heart the first time I visited with Kevin. It's ashamed to say that I wouldn't even consider coming up to the hill if I wasn't looking for unique places for Kevin to experience the culture of #Taiwan. When I finally realized the incredible sceneries and the sensational tea houses Maokong offers, I couldn't get enough of this place. So here we are again, exploring deeper into this village hidden away from the noise and the crwods in downtown #Taipei.

WHO ARE WE?
We are a small publishing company (Vision) based in Taipei. We produce an English magazine (Travel in Taiwan) introducing you to Taiwan as a travel destination. Read it! Lot of useful information. We also have a website with lots of articles about Taiwan. Visit it! We try to make a video or two every week. Let us know what you think about this channel and what you would like to see about Taiwan. All the best to you!
From Travel in Taiwan magazine 2018-7-8:
New Tile House Hakka Cultural District
The New Tile House Hakka Cultural District is neither new, nor a single house, but rather a cluster of single-story buildings made of bricks (some fired, some mud) and tiles. Not much happens here on weekdays, but visit on a weekend and you might see cultural groups presenting music or dance performances.

Shi Family Fish Balls
Located southwest of Hsinchu Railway Station, this restaurant has been praised by hundreds of netizens. It's an old-school eatery: There’s no English sign or menu, and not one dollar has been wasted on fancying up the décor.

Zhulian Temple
This hall of worship is at the Buddhist end of the theological spectrum, but you’ll also see traditional folk practices. One is the casting of pairs of crescent-shaped wood blocks known to Taiwanese-speakers as poe.

Qiding Station
There's no staff at this station, nor vending machines from which you can buy tickets. Hsinchu to Qiding is NT$21.
Landscape Platform
It takes just a few minutes to get from the station to the platform. Gazing out over the Taiwan Strait, as the wind turbines that dot this stretch of coast slowly rotated and the occasional express train rumbled past, was a soothing experience.
Zimu Tunnel
When this railway line was double-tracked in the early 1970s, it was moved slightly closer to the sea because the tunnels (there are actually two) were too narrow. Exemplars of the solid infrastructure built during the 1895-1945 Japanese colonial period, they're now preserved as part of a walkway/bike trail. The first tunnel is 67m long, the second nearly double that. No flashlights are needed; there's enough natural light for you to see where you're walking.
Xiangshan Station
The lovingly maintained station building in Xiangshan is an attraction in its own right. Dating from 1928, it’s the only remaining Japanese-era railway stop in Taiwan that was built using cypress from the Alishan area in the central mountains.
Xiangshan Tianhou Temple
The current building dates from the 1920s, but there’s been a shrine on this site since sometime in the late 17th century, when Han Chinese from Fujian (the mainland China province closest to Taiwan) began to settle on the coast here. Like the majority of Taiwan’s folk shrines, this temple houses effigies of several deities, but the principal object of veneration is Mazu, the Goddess of the Sea.

Taipei, Taiwan - 8+3 Awesome Things To See/Do
Taipei, Taiwan is a vibrant city that is rich in culture, history, street food, and religion. It’s safe, super-friendly, convenient and probably undervalued compared to the super Asian city destinations of Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore, Seoul. Ironically many residents of those cities choose Taipei as a destination, enjoying some of those qualities that their city once had or simply lacks.
Why the title 8+3 Awesome Sights To See/Do? Well most in Asia would be clued in to the significance of the number 8 and 3. In Chinese,(Mandarin), the word eight sounds similar to the word for prosper or wealth. It’s also similar sounding in Cantonese. The number 8 is an auspicious number.
The number three sounds similar to the character for birth and is also considered a lucky number. There are three stages to a person’s life-birth, marriage, and death.
So my wish is for prosperity and good luck for all those that visit Taipei, Taiwan and for the people of the city that have treated me with such great kindness and hospitality for the past 4 years. Would love to get your feedback on the video and ideas for future content. Also what other countries do you like to visit in Asia?
Thanks again with many blessings to you!
John

VLOG - Visiting Taipei, Taiwan! (台北) Part 2
April - May 2016
Video recorded in the end of April - beginning of May. Part 2 of our trip to Taiwan! We tried the subway, visited Elephant Mountain, a poop restaurant, went to the cinema, and had some drinks at a skybar. Details in the description below ~
——
Guanghua Digital Plaza
Since this area was so close to our hotel (Ambience Hotel), we decided to check it out. The Guang Hua Digital Plaza is a six-story, indoor technological and electronics market. I didn’t film inside, but I filmed a bit when we walked around the area.
Elephant Mountain
We took the subway to Xiangshan station and from there we looked for the Xiangshan Hiking Trail (象山登山步道). Says it was about 650 metres to the top, and it took about 15-20 minutes. The stairs were quite steep so it was a bit difficult to get there, but I’m glad we did because the view was so beautiful!
Taipei 101
We then tried to go up to the Taipei 101 Observatory but the line was so long we decided not to.. ^^;;
Modern Toilet
Not really fine dining, but we had to try it. The concept and interiors was so hilarious.
Ximending - Cinema street
We then decided to go see a movie. There is a street in Ximending lined with several movie theatres.
Marco Polo Lounge (Shangri-La Taipei)
The view at Marco Polo Lounge is amazing, with a first-class view of the Taipei 101 building. The lounge is quite small but not over-crowded. A romantic place for a date. We also had some lovely drinks and dessert.

【關於我 / About Me】
Hello! My name is Hio Wai, a traveller from Hong Kong.

Taipei Elephant Mountain hiking trail, Taipei 101 view and Night Market street food
Taipei, Taiwan.
A really nice walk to the top of Elephant Mountain.
Despite the clouds, amazing and breathtaking views (especially at night) of the Taipei 101 and of the other skyscrapers of the skyline.
After this trail, a quick visit to the Shilin Night Market where I could find and taste a lot of street food.
