Sonesta Posadas Del Inca, Yucay, Sacred Valley, Cusco, Peru
The sixth day of my South American trip.
Today was spent on a bus tour around the Sacred Valley in Cusco, Peru.
I here stopped for lunch during my tour of the Sacred Valley.
The 87-room Sonesta Posadas del Inca Yucay is located in the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, a one-hour drive from the ancient Inca capital of Cusco and close to Machu Picchu. The Sonesta Yucay Posada is a former 18th century colonial-style monastery and is surrounded by beautiful gardens.
The Sacred Valley produces an idyllic year-round climate of moderate warm weather with abundant sunshine and fresh air. The area is a perfect setting for horseback riding, hiking, rafting and other activities.
Near the Sonesta Posada are the craft markets of Pisac and Chincheros, the Salt Mines of Maras, the town of Moray, Ollantaytambo ruins and Machu Picchu.

Magical Peru #22: Valle Sagrado (Sacred Valley) Part 2 of 2: Pisac, Ollantaytambo & Chinchero
Magical Peru:
Please watch our visit to the ruins of Pisac:
Today we depart from Cusco to enter the Valle Sagrado, a region with lots of small Inca towns and archaeology sites. We start from Pisac, then went to Ollantaytambo and finished the day in Chinchero.
The Sacred Valley of the Incas or the Urubamba Valley is a valley in the Andes of Peru, close to the Inca capital of Cusco and the ancient city of Machu Picchu. It is located in the present-day Peruvian region of Cusco. In colonial documents it is referred to as the Valley of Yucay. According to recent researches it encompasses the heartland of the Inca Empire. The valley is generally understood to include everything between Calca and Lamay, Písac, and Ollantaytambo. The valley was formed by the Urubamba River, also known as Willkanuta River or Willkamayu (Quechua).
El Valle Sagrado de los Incas, en los Andes peruanos, está compuesto por numerosos ríos que descienden por quebradas y pequeños valles; posee numerosos monumentos arqueológicos y pueblos indígenas.
Cusco (often spelled Cuzco) is in southeastern Peru, near the Urubamba Valley of the Andes mountain range. It is the capital of the Cusco Region as well as the Cuzco Province. In 2007, the city had a population of 358,935. Located on the eastern end of the Knot of Cuzco, its elevation is around 3,400 m (11,200 ft). Cusco was the site of the historic capital of the Inca Empire and was declared a World Heritage Site in 1983 by UNESCO. It is a major tourist destination and receives almost 2 million visitors a year. It is designated as the Historical Capital of Peru by the Constitution of Peru.
When we first arrived in Peru, we spent a couple of weeks studying Spanish in Lima (please watch the vlog Living in Lima) then we headed to the North of Peru and visited Trujillo, Chiclayo and some archaeological sites, such as tombs, pyramids and ancient cities. On the South of Peru, our first stop was in Arequipa, and then we headed to Chivay and its thermal pools (La Calera hot springs) and the Colca Canyon, to do a canyon tour. Now, we go to the country side: Puno, Lake Titicaca, Cusco, Machu Pichu and so on...
-- Brasileiro no Peru --

The Sacred Valley Tour, Cusco, Peru
The sixth day of my South American trip.
Today was spent on a bus tour around the Sacred Valley in Cusco, Peru.
Our first stop is on a road with on overlook of the Sacred. Valley. Followed by a 20 minute stop at a market where I pick up a wood carving. From here we make another photography stop.
The first real stop is at Pisac, here we are told about it for about ten minutes and given 20 minutes to explore, and this is very, very insufficient you could spend at least 5 hours here, I rush around to take some pictures and then we have to leave.
Next we stop for lunch at the Sonesta Posadas Del Inca in Yucay which used to be a monastery before it became a hotel and restaurant, the food is of a very high standard and I explore a bit after I have eaten. We spend an hour and a half here which is way to long half an hour would have been sufficient.
We then head over to Ollantaytambo which tales a little over an hour, when we get there we are told about the place for ten minutes then told we have 20 minutes to explore, again this is way to short a time. I basically run (ok maybe walk briskly) to the top and then have to come back down again, it is such a waste I get a chance to visit these wonderful places and don't have any time to see them properly, especially when you consider we spend longer at lunch than we did at the two major archaeological sites in the area combined.
The final stop of the day is Chinchero, here we see how they make the wool used in clothing, it was quite interesting and we spend about 20 minutes here.
We then head back to Cusco. I do think that this tour could have made such better use of time; the two guides were great so were the other passengers I just feel I did not get to see or experience what I wanted out of this tour.
