Alaska Premiere at the Anchorage Film Festival
CORNFIELD VLOG // 031
This weekend I got to do something I have never done up here in Alaska before. I was able to check out the Anchorage Film Festival...but not just that...I was able to hang out with a filmmaker, Ida Theresa Myklebost from Norway, as she had her film premiered for the first time in Alaska.
After - I took them on a quick little tour of Anchorage which included a super windy and snowy walk around Flattop!
Let me know what you think are the best places to take people in your town on their first day in the comments below!
If you're in Anchorage - make sure and go see UNWELCOME at the Alaska Experience Theater - Dec. 10th @ 12:30pm. Very powerful and moving documentary that Ida has worked very hard on getting the word out.

Our Top Alaska Cruises to Take in 2020
Subscribe to the Eat Sleep Cruise YouTube Channel if you love to travel and cruise the world!
With more ships sailing the region than ever before, 2020 is a great year to cruise to Alaska. If you are considering a trip to this 49th state, you will want to take a look at our picks for the Top Alaska Cruises in 2020.
If you enjoy the video, make sure to give it a BIG THUMBS UP!
With ships from all major brands, there is a cruise ship with the features and amenities that is right for you.
Norwegian Cruise Line has two of its largest ships sailing the region again this year. Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Joy offer many innovative attractions that are fun for the whole family including a racetrack, laser tag, and an interactive virtual reality pavilion. Not to mention, there are many great dining options, Broadway hits in the main theater, and the Observation Lounge with floor to ceiling views of the amazing landscapes.
Royal Caribbean also has some great options for cruises to Alaska in 2020. Ovation of the Seas is the largest cruise ship sailing in the region and is specifically built for cold water cruising. This ship has some innovative features of its own including the SeaPlex with bumper cars and roller skating, as well as the North Star aerial gondola and a sky diving simulator. Additionally, Radiance of the Seas is always a cruiser favorite in Alaska as the ship offers some of the greatest views of Alaska from the nine-story central atrium and outward facing elevators.
Celebrity Cruises will also host a number of ships in Alaska in 2020 including Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Eclipse. Offering Solstice-class favorites like the Lawn Club, Hot Glass Class, and the Crush martini bar, there will be plenty to keep you entertained when you are not ashore exploring all that Alaska has to offer. Celebrity Millennium will also be cruising to Alaska in 2020. This ship has recently undergone an extensive revitalization with updates to the staterooms, dining, and more.
It is tough to pick the best Alaskan cruise for 2020 among the 8 Princess Cruises’ ships sailing in the region this year. Given that we are partial to mega-ships, Royal Princess makes our list. This ship offers signature Princess amenities and some amazing views from the SeaWalk, a 60-foot glass walkway extending 28 feet off the side of the ship. Star Princess also makes our list this year as it offers unique 10-day round-trip voyages from San Francisco.
If you are looking for an all-inclusive feel and simple elegance during your cruise to Alaska in 2020, look no further than Viking Orion. This ship will sail from Vancouver to Seward and visit Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Sitka, Icy Strait Point, and Valdez. The best part is this trip includes seven guided tours among other amenities like complimentary WiFi, specialty dining, beer and wine at meals, bottled water, and more. These destination-focused itineraries compliment the unparalleled service and inclusive nature of the cruise line.
Finally, one of Holland America’s newest ships is also making its way to Alaska in 2020. The MS Koningsdam will be sailing 7-day round-trip cruises from Vancouver. When you need a break from sightseeing, Koningsdam offers plenty of top-notch amenities, entertainment, and dining as well, like performances on the World Stage, America’s Test Kitchen live cooking shows, and BBC Earth Experiences to bring you closer to nature.
No matter which ship you choose, your cruise to Alaska in 2020 will certainly be filled with majestic landscapes, magnificent wildlife sightings, and memories to last a lifetime.

Video Dominion - Historic Anchorage Hotel Building, Downtown Anchorage Alaska
The Anchorage Hotel is a hotel located at 330 E Street in Anchorage, Alaska. The original Anchorage Hotel building was built in 1916; the current hotel building, which was constructed as an annex to the hotel, opened in 1936. C.B. Wark built the first hotel building; while the building was originally a wood frame structure, Frank Reed upgraded the building to a luxury hotel in 1917. The hotel outgrew its original building due to Anchorage's growth in the 1930s, so the Anchorage Hotel Annex was built in 1936 to house additional guests. The annex, designed by E. Ellsworth Sedille, had a Gothic design and was one of the tallest buildings in Anchorage at the time. Guests at the hotel included Warren Harding, Harold L. Ickes, Walt Disney, Wiley Post, and Will Rogers; the latter two stayed at the hotel only two days prior to their deaths in a plane crash. In addition, artist Sidney Laurence lived in the hotel for parts of the 1920s and 1930s; Laurence once exchanged a painting of Mount McKinley for a year's rent at the hotel.
In the 1950s, the hotel declined in status, and the buildings suffered from a lack of maintenance. The original hotel building was demolished in the 1960s, while the annex became the Hotel Ronald Lee; after a number of ownership changes, Bob and Carolyn Neumann rehabilitated the hotel in the late 1980s. After its renovation, the hotel regained its original name; it now operates as the Historic Anchorage Hotel.

Alaska Native Heritage Center, Anchorage, AK (12/9/2018)
Let me know what you think about the images. This place was really nice. I went on a Sunday when the center wasn't officially open. There was a church service there on the same day . The members were affected by the recent earthquake and they had to relocate to the heritage center.
The Salisbury Theatre at UAF
Excerpt from Alaska Is Our Campus, a 1971 film about the University of Alaska Fairbanks. This clip shows a theater class being held in the recently-constructed Lee H. Salisbury Theatre, which was built in 1969 and originally dedicated as the Fine Arts Theatre. This clip includes two glimpses of Lee Salisbury. He began teaching at the university in 1955. For many years, Salisbury was the sole faculty member of the university’s speech and drama program. He played a pivotal role in securing support for building the theatre on campus. Salisbury directed nearly 100 plays over more than 30 years at UAF, the longest continuous tradition of theater production in Alaska. When he retired from teaching in 1988, he became a Professor of Speech Emeritus, and in 1992, students petitioned the board of regents to rename the theatre in his honor. Although the regents approved the name change, it is university policy that no facility be named for a living person until they have been retired for five years. On June 4, 1993, the theatre was rededicated with his name. Salisbury passed away in March 2015, in Washington state. (Color/Sound/16mm film).
This sequence contains excerpts from AAF-390 from the University of Alaska collection held by the Alaska Film Archives, a unit of the Alaska and Polar Regions Collections & Archives Department in the Elmer E. Rasmuson Library, University of Alaska Fairbanks. For more information please contact the Alaska Film Archives.

Study Film at the University of Alaska Fairbanks
Film is a B.A. degree which included the standard liberal arts core. We are the only film degree program in the state of Alaska, and we are a fully integrated interdisciplinary program that has built off of the expertise of faculty in Art for Animation; English for Screenwriting and Film Criticism; History for Film History; Journalism for Documentary; Languages for Regional Film Studies (French, Russian, European Cinema, and Arctic Cinema); and Theatre for Acting and many technical courses. In addition we teach classes in film pre-production, production, post-production, and theory. Many of our students work on film sets with professional production companies while they are enrolled in our classes. We have been co-producers or producers of a variety of feature films, including:
Mining for Ruby:
Chronic Town:
Dear Lemon Lima:
Messenger:
We also produce documentaries, and many of our students work on reality television shows (like Ice Road Truckers, Golddigger, etc.) and have their own projects and short films which they produce. We have a film in production right now for PBS television release, and another short narrative film at the Anchorage Film Festival.
In general, our program encourages hands-on experiential learning, paired with film theory, criticism, and production and real world experience.
