Alfred park was named after the Prince Alfred of England ,who came to India .It is situated in the heart of the City Allahabad ,sprawling in area of about three Kms. .Its beautifully and aesthetically crafted park.A walk inside is very pleasant and rejuvenating .It is walkers and joggers paradise.They can be seen here early in the morning,stretching their body and enjoying its ambiance.Many British period monument like statue of George 5th,Victoria Memorial and canon.It also houses a museum, Public Library and Staue of Saheed ChandraSekhar Azad .Overall experience in this park was very pleasant and memorable It must be included in itinerary to all the visitors of Allahabad City.
In 1870, Prince Alfred of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha visited Prayagraj (earlier known as Allahabad). A park, 133 acres in area and situated in the heart of the city’s English quarters, Civil Lines, was built to commemorate the event. In 1931, Chandra Shekhar Azad, a revolutionary freedom fighter was engaged in a fierce gun fight with the British in this park. Aged 24, Azad died here on 27 February 1931.

Chandra Shekhar Azad , Jai Jawaan Jai Kisaan
Azad died at Alfred Park in Allahabad on 27 February 1931. The police surrounded him in the park citing information from an informer. He was wounded in the process of defending himself and Sukhdev Raj and killed three policemen and wounded some others. His actions made it possible for Sukhdev Raj to escape. After a long shootout, holding true to his pledge to never be captured alive, he shot himself dead with his last bullet.The Colt pistol of Chandra Shekhar Azad is displayed at the Allahabad Museum.
The body was sent to Rasulabad Ghat for cremation without informing general public. As it came to light, people surrounded the park where the incident had taken place. They chanted slogans against the British rule and praised Azad.This Scene From hindi movie jai jawan jai kisan

The place of history,glory,monument,plants and trees is a place where greenery,big lawns,maintained roads make it an attraction of city.Library,Sports stadium are also pkaces to visit.Victoria Memorial and Chandra Shekhar Azad Memorial are historical monuments are of British Era.Victoria statue was installed when Queen visited in1903.The statue was removed after independence but monument of Italian stone is still huge and attractive.The statue of Chandra Shekhar Azad is attraction for his martyrdom at the age of 24 in 1931 when he shot into him and eluded his arrest.The park has been named on his name.
The vehicles are parked outside and walk of about 4 km is there if you go around full route enjoying fresh air and garden of mangoes,guavas,amlas.Many morning evening walkers will greet you in park.

Chandra Shekhar Azad Park Allahabad, also known as Alfred Park or Company Garden, is a public park in Allahabad that is spread over a sprawling 133 acres. Chandra Shekhar Azad Park is one of the biggest parks in Allahabad and contains the statues of British royals George V and Victoria. But it is most well-known for the famous shootout that occurred on 27th February, 1931 between the British police and the great freedom fighter of India Chandra Shekhar Azad, whose statue stands tall inside the park in independent India today. The park is located next to Georgetown and behind the Allahabad Museum in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh.
When to Visit
If you stay nearby, you can just take an auto, rickshaw or cab from the hotel and come here. One can visit this park at any time of the year. It is open on the following days:
