Edo old town in tokyo , japan( ningyocho) near by Nihonbashi
Ningyocho means Doll Town and is a charming little district in the Nihonbashi district of Tokyo's Chuo ward that has made an effort to convincingly retain and recreate a sense of Tokyo tradition. Ningyocho features often quaint street scenery, old-style shopping, numerous cafes and renowned places to dine, and cultural appeal with its museum to a famous Japanese print maker. Ningyocho is taken to include the area, too, around the adjacent Suitengumae Station, just a few minutes' walk east.
Ningyocho (人形町) :a taste of shitamachi (Tokyo)
Ningyocho is a neighborhood of the Nihonbashi district, located in Tokyo's Chuo ward. Ningyocho, literally doll town, used to be an entertainment district, a town of doll makers, puppeteers, and puppet theaters during the Edo period (1603-1868). It also was the birthplace of Edo Kabuki theatre. After the theaters burnt down in the late Edo period they were moved to Asakusa but Ningyocho has kept its name.
A good number of buildings have been preserved in this area, and many of the traditional restaurants and craftsman-shops are here for over 100 years. The town is not known anymore for its dolls, but rather for these, often high-class, traditional restaurants and shops.
Ningyocho is the perfect place for those who want to experience Tokyo’s shitamachi (old downtown where the common people lived in the Edo period).
On the main street, Ningyocho-dori, there are two clock towers. They come alive with a little puppet show for the passers-by to enjoy every hour from 11am to 7pm.
In the Ningyocho area there are the 7 shrines of the 7 Gods of Good Fortune. You can visit all of them by walking.

Ningyocho- a town that reminds you of the good old days 「人形町・浜町」
Ningyocho prospered as a shrine town of Suitenngu Shrine and a geisha district during the Edo era (1603-1867). At present it is a busy business town, but here and there you can find shops whose origins can date back to the Edo Period (1603-1867). It's always enjoyable to take a walk from Suitengu through Ningyocho to Hamacho. If you are imaginative you would imagine what it used to be during the Edo period.
Incidentally, I never expected so great an earthquake would hit north-western part of Japan while filming though I felt the road were tremendously shaking.
