The Campaign to Preserve Mamilla Jerusalem Cemetery was launched in February 2010:
In the name of tolerance, and human dignity, the Israeli regime is intent on razing the oldest cemetery in the Holy City of Jerusalem. The goal is clear: erase anything to do with the past and the identity of Jerusalem that does not conform with the Zionist vision.
For decades, this regime has been implementing policies that aim to ethnically cleanse the city of Jerusalem, as well as, other parts of historical Palestine. The regime attempts to conceal these policies and measures in various ways.
Its the turn of the 12th century Mamilla cemetery in Jerusalem. The facacde cannot be more ironic: the regime intends to build the Center for Human Dignity - Museum of Tolerance on the ruins of the cemetery.
Of course, this is only part of the racist policies of the Israeli regime, where it is only non-Jewish sites that get destroyed, regardless of their historical, religious or cultural values. Even the friends of the Israeli regime think so: The Government [of Israel] implements regulations only for Jewish sites. Tsfat Israel Cemetery
Down below the Old City of Tzfat, towards the base of the mountain, lies the famous cemetery. People come to the cemetery from all over the world, to sit, pray, beseech, or simply be in the company of the great rabbis who are buried there.
FAMOUS BURIALS:
The most famous of these rabbis is Rabbi Isaac Luria, also known as the ARI. The ARI came to Tzfat in 1530 from Egypt. He was one of the most famous Kabbalists of all times, and while in Tzfat, legend has it, he learned new Kabbalistic insights while studying with Elijah the Prophet in a cave in the synagogue located above the cemetery - today named the ARI Sepharadic Synagogue.
While the cemetery is best known for the great scholars from the Middle Ages who are buried there, it is also known as the burial grounds for Jews who lived in the area thousands of years ago. Some of the oldest graves that are known there are those of Hosea the Prophet, R' Pinchas Ben Yair (father-in-law of R' Shimon Bar Yochai, composer of the Kabbalistic Book of the Zohar in the 1st century A.D.) and, some believe, Chana and her Seven Sons of Chanukah fame.
I visited on July 21, 2016. Be sure to allow at least a couple of hours to visit the cemetery. There are continuous stairs which lead directly down through the cemetery. This ended our tour of Tsfat for the day. We called a taxi to take us back to the main bus station in Tsfat. Walking distance back to the bus station from the base or front gate of the cemetery would take approximately 1.5 hours.

From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

Mount Olivet Cemetery on 1858 Bond Atlas map of Frederick, Maryland
In the early 1850’s, well before the outbreak of the American Civil War, Frederick City consisted of many downtown-located burying grounds. Most of these adjoined churches and dated back to the founding of Frederick Town in the 1740's.
As the town's population grew, so did the churches and their congregations. The graveyards were rapidly reaching their capacity for burials. A committee was formed and comprised of prominent member-representatives of each church to discuss a resolution to the problem of burial space. It was decided that a new cemetery would have to be developed to cater to the needs of an ever-growing Frederick and her religious institutions.
This was at the height of the rural or garden cemetery movement, a new school of thought which began in the large cities of the northeast. Herein, the philosophy toward cemetery design was re-examined. Prior to this time, small urban churchyards were the norm but the garden cemetery movement promoted larger, park-like spaces on the outskirts of town. These cemeteries were planned as public spaces from their inception, and provided a place for all citizens to enjoy refined outdoor recreation amidst art and sculpture. Elaborate gardens were planted and family outings to the cemetery became popular social activities.

The name Mount Olivet was chosen, perhaps a curious choice for a non-denominational burying ground. The famed Mount of Olives, or Mount Olivet, is a mountain ridge east of, and adjacent to, Jerusalem's Old City. It is named for the olive groves that once covered its slopes. The southern part of the Mount was the Silwan necropolis, attributed to the ancient Judean kingdom.
The Mount has been used as a Jewish cemetery for over 3,000 years and holds approximately 150,000 graves. Several key events in the life of Jesus, as related in the Gospels, took place on the Mount of Olives, and in the Acts of Apostles it is described as the place from which Jesus ascended to heaven.
The Charter of Mount Olivet Cemetery was recorded among the Land Records of Frederick County on October 4th, 1852. Thirty-two acres were purchased through stock sales, and a rural architect from Baltimore named James Belden was hired to design and lay-out Frederick's new burying ground. The cemetery was dedicated on May 23, 1854 amidst great fanfare. The cemetery's first interment occurred on May 28, 1854. This was Mrs. Ann J. Crawford, around 67 years of age, a house maid working for the family of James Whitehill, a prominent Frederick businessman and one of the founders of the cemetery.

Liberty Bell Park, Jerusalem
Liberty Bell Park in Jerusalem was founded in 1976 to celebrate the bicentennial of the United States. The park takes its name from a replica inside the park of the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The park has multiple playgrounds, a sand turtle sculpture and a dragon sculpture.

Gan Ha'atsmaut -- The 'Void' Park of Jerusalem
Final Project in Architecture school Fifth Year - Ariel University
Main Concept: For most of us Jerusalem represents the 'Old City' and the 'Kneset', this project is trying to raise awareness to the Historic City Center via Gan Ha'atsmaut (Independents Park). The park is the 'Void' in the urban fabric of the city heart which connects its neighborhoods & landmarks. The new Mamilla Square becomes a multilayer center, urban and cultural, in the city life.
Mamilla Pool becomes a two seasonal area that connects Jerusalem's Archaeological Museum in the west, and Mamilla square in the east, connected directly to Alrov Mamilla without motoric barrier. Every layer we take away in Jerusalem we will find an additional one, underneath the square we will find the school of archeology.
The school is leaning on a fracture, a reminder to the brick in the wall near Jaffa gate, and through the segmented Alrov Mamilla, bringing the main light and air to the underground structure. Two buildings rise from the ground and mark the location of the school and its main entrance.
The 'Void' is an inner world that allows each one of us to pause from the intense world around us, connect to himself and his inner stillness, within the school, in Gan Ha'atsmaut, or Jerusalem in general.

STORYLINE
A private Jewish group has taken over two buildings in largely Arab east Jerusalem, a move that might led to clashes with Palestinian residents of the area, local Arab residents said on Monday.
Elad, a non-profit organisation that buys up Arab properties in east Jerusalem and settles Jews in them, bought the two buildings more than a few months ago, a member of the group's board of directors said.
Several Jewish families have moved in since last Wednesday, a day after the centrist Kadima Party won the Israeli elections.
Jewish organisations, often funded by wealthy American Jews, have bought up dozens of properties in Arab areas of Jerusalem, sparking rioting and generating animosity among the Palestinian residents of the disputed city.
Israel says all of Jerusalem is its capital, while Palestinians demand the eastern half of the city for the capital of a future state.
The fate of the city and its holy shrines has been one of the major obstacles in Israeli-Palestinian peacemaking efforts.
The two buildings most recently settled by Jews are on the Mount of Olives, about 100 metres (yards) from an ancient Jewish cemetery.
Security guards armed with assault rifles and walkie-talkies guard the three-story buildings.
Refusing to talk to the media, the Jewish men who live there sat chatting on Monday on the balcony, a metal gate at the entrance shut with a heavy padlock and chains.
Overlooking an Old City shrine holy to Jews and Muslims that is at the epicentre of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the new Jewish residents believe they are reviving biblical Jerusalem, which has been largely empty of Jews for hundreds of years.
Ali Abulhawa, lives next door to the new Israeli residents.
At 2 a.m. last Wednesday (2300GMT Tuesday), a group of Jews came to the neighbourhood with a suitcase full of dollars, he said.
They offered the Palestinian who owns the ground-floor apartment the money, but he refused to sell them his portion, Abulhawa said.
In general, the new neighbours do not bother Abulhawa.
There were some clashes when they first moved in, he said, but now the situation has basically returned to normal.
Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, whose Kadima Party won last week's parliamentary elections, has said he would be prepared to give up some east Jerusalem neighbourhoods under his plan to draw Israel's final borders.

Saudi's Destruction Of The Islamic Heritage

However one must question, what is the difference between fact and myth? Evidence.
