Amoeba Music San Francisco - Store Tour
In 1997 Amoeba Music crossed the Bay to open its San Francisco location, in a converted bowling alley at the eastern edge of Golden Gate Park. Here we stock hundreds of thousands of music and movie titles from every genre imaginable, and we're constantly buying great collections and bringing in new product. The beautiful, dynamic Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, with its history of music and free expression, is the perfect place for an offshoot from the original location in like-minded Berkeley. With our huge selection, cool staff, and amazing live shows, we're a must-see part of San Francisco!

Lillie Mae, A Golden Year (live), Amoeba Music, San Francisco, CA, August 22, 2019 (4K)
Nashville singer-songwriter Lillie Mae plays a new song called A Golden Year live in concert at Amoeba Music in San Francisco, California on August 22, 2019.
A Golden Year was released as a single on August 2, 2019, and appears on Lillie Mae's new album, Other Girls, released on August 16 on Third Man Records. She was a member of the country / bluegrass bands the Risches and Jypsi with her siblings, and later played fiddle and mandolin in Jack White's touring band, The Peacocks. Joining her onstage were Frank Rische (guitar and backing voals), Grace McKenna Rische (guitar and backing vocals), Ian Cory Craft (bass), and Misael Arriaga (drums).

A Golden Year lyrics:
A golden year comes to an end
And better than I would expect
You welcomed me and us into your home,
I'm grateful for the kindness you've shown
La la la la la la la la la la
Down by the fire in the depths of the night
Burns a light so happy and bright
So carry your weight and some more around here
And don't forget to breathe in the air
La la la la la la la la la la
A silver moon comes to a close
Full again so shiny and bold
I swear I see a halo that glows above your crown
And I too will follow
La la la la la la la la la la
So take the Rhodes or wherever they lead
And find your way to a happier being
La la la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la la

Lillie Mae official bio:
Lillie Mae has been singing and playing on stages across the country since she could stand on her own two feet. Forever And Then Some, her much anticipated Third Man Records debut, sees the Nashville-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist weaving her own extraordinary experiences with the myriad strains of Americana to create a breathtaking song cycle of romance and struggle, solitude and adventure. Songs like “Wash Me Clean” and the plaintive first single, “Over The Hill and Through The Woods,” stand out as snapshots of intimacies, encounters, and moments that matter, reverberating with earnest emotion and restless creative energy. Produced by multiple Grammy Award-winner Jack White III at Third Man Studio in Nashville, Forever And Then Some affirms Lillie Mae as a remarkably gifted musical storyteller, a bright new star that’s been here all along.
Lillie Mae's new album Other Girls was released August 16th on Third Man Records. The album features eleven new, original songs written by Lillie Mae, produced by Grammy-winner Dave Cobb at Nashville’s famed RCA Studio A. From the new track’s opening line, “I ain’t your baby,” the Nashville singer, songwriter, downtown scene slayer, and most-wanted fiddler signals a reclaimed confidence and bold evolution, telling women’s stories - including her own - that build on the strength of her “nervy” (NPR Music), 2017 Jack White-produced debut. Lillie Mae led a sequestered childhood touring in a motorhome with her musician parents, constricted by religious boundaries. In her adolescence she busked from RV parks to the Rio Grande, swept through Nashville clubs, and achieved Top 40 country status in her sibling group Jypsi, but on Other Girls, a new side of herself emerges with more to say than ever before. She embraces personal triumphs on “I Came For The Band (For Show),” breathes new perspective into “Terlingua Girl,” a song she wrote as a 19-year-old in the South-Texan desert, and professes brave truths as heard in “You’ve Got Other Girls for That.” After a vagabond past, crossing paths with hundreds of musicians, she limits the cast of Other Girls to just her brother, sister, and a few trusted collaborators.
A Walk Around The Amazing Amoeba Record Store
This is a short film about the Amoeba Music on Sunset Blvd. and Amoeba Music is an independent music chain with stores in Berkeley, San Francisco, and Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. Founded by former employees of nearby Rasputin Records, it opened on Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley in 1990. The stores are unusually large given their independent status. The San Francisco store, which opened in 1997 in the Haight-Ashbury district, is especially notable for its size. Occupying a 24,000 square foot former bowling alley, the store regularly stocks upwards of 100,000 CDs, vinyl records, and audio cassettes, both new and used.
The Southern California location was added on November 17, 2001 when the store opened a new branch on Sunset Boulevard (at Cahuenga Boulevard) in Hollywood. At the time of its opening, the store planned to stock as many as 250,000 titles, which would place the store among the largest independent music stores in the world. According to Los Angeles Times writer Michael Hiltzik, the location instantly became a Hollywood landmark.

The stores also trade in movies, though secondarily to their music business. Each location has a smaller collection of movies on DVD, VHS, Laserdisc and Blu-ray Disc. In addition, each store maintains a selection of music-related posters and artwork for purchase, as well as Amoeba-branded merchandise. The Hollywood location has the entire 2nd floor dedicated to DVD and Blu-ray Disc. In addition, Amoeba Music frequently holds free shows during store hours with locally and nationally known artists from a wide variety of genres.
The stores in San Francisco and Hollywood also have a modest selection of new and used video-games for current generation systems (such as the Xbox 360, Wii and the PlayStation 3).
This store is a playable venue in the music game, Guitar Hero World Tour. Paul McCartney recorded his EP Amoeba's Secret at an unannounced live performance at the Hollywood location on 27 June 2007.
