Welcome to Atlanta, USA - Unravel Travel TV
Atlanta is the sprawling capital of the state of Georgia in he USA. It played an important part in both the Civil War and the 1960s Civil Rights Movement. Atlanta History Center chronicles the city's past, and the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site is dedicated to the African-American leader’s life and times. Downtown, 21-acre Centennial Olympic Park, built for the 1996 Olympics encompasses the massive Georgia Aquarium.
Atlanta was established in 1837 at the intersection of two railroad lines, and the city rose from the ashes of the Civil War to become a national center of commerce. In the decades following the Civil Rights Movement, during which the city earned a reputation as too busy to hate for the progressive views of its citizens and leaders, Atlanta attained international prominence. Atlanta is the primary transportation hub of the Southeastern United States, via highway, railroad, and air, with Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport being the world's busiest airport since 1998.

Athens, Georgia
Athens (formally known as Athens-Clarke County) is a consolidated city–county in the U.S. state of Georgia, in the northeastern part of the state, comprising the former city of Athens proper (the county seat) and Clarke County. The University of Georgia, the state's flagship public research university, is located in this college town, and contributed to its initial growth. In 1991, after a vote the preceding year, the original city abandoned its charter to form a unified government with Clarke County, referred to collectively as Athens-Clarke County. As of the 2010 census, the consolidated city-county (including all of Athens-Clarke County except Winterville and a portion of Bogart) had a total population of 115,452; all of Clarke County had a population of 116,714. Athens is the fifth largest city in Georgia, and the principal city of the Athens-Clarke County, Georgia Metropolitan Statistical Area, which had a population of 192,541 as of the 2010 census. Athens-Clarke County has the smallest geographical area of a county in Georgia.

Athens Heritage Walks Video Disclaimer
These videos are unedited recordings of a series of guided walking tours, called Athens Heritage Walks, sponsored by the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation. The first of these tours were developed in 2009; additional tours have been added over the years. The tour process begins when a well-known local figure is invited to develop a guided tour of a historic neighborhood or area. The Foundation does not provide a script but rather asks the guide to develop his/her own script based on his/her knowledge and expertise. The Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation does not guarantee the accuracy of these accounts nor necessarily support opinions expressed by the guides. ACHF provides research assistance when asked and handles all tour logistics. One of the goals of the tours is to capture the personal memories of the guides and so the tours tend to be a mixture of facts, conjecture and anecdotal accounts, the degree of which varies from guide to guide. We hope you enjoy them.

Cook'sTrail Run Athens Georgia
Enjoy a short video showing parts of a 6 mile out and back run on Cook's Trail, from Sandy Creek Nature Center.
The entire trail goes 4 miles to Sandy Creek Park, where it connects to the Lakeside Loop Trail. The Lakeside Loop allows you to run 8ish miles around the lake. add that to Cook's, and this summer you've got a nice shady long run.
You'll find water and restrooms at either end of Cook's trail, or on the far side of the Lakeside loop, by the boat launch or main picnic area.
the trails can have some rougher sections near the higher traffic picnic areas and trailheads, but once you get a half mile out, it's mostly smooth sailing!

A day in the life of an ancient Athenian - Robert Garland
Check out our Patreon page:
View full lesson:
It’s 427 BCE, and the worst internal conflict ever to occur in the ancient Greek world is in its fourth year. Athens is facing a big decision: what to do with the people of Mytilene, a city on the island of Lesbos where a revolt against Athenian rule has just been put down. How did these kinds of decisions get made? Robert Garland outlines a day in the life of Athenian democracy.

More information about the video content bellow:
1. Georgia is a state in the southeastern United States. It began as a British colony in 1733, the last of the original Thirteen Colonies. Named after King George II of Great Britain, the Province of Georgia covered the area from South Carolina down to Spanish Florida and New France along Louisiana (New France), also bordering to the west towards the Mississippi River. Georgia was the fourth state to ratify the United States Constitution, on January 2, 1788. Georgia declared its secession from the Union on January 19, 1861, and was one of the original seven Confederate states. It was the last state to be restored to the Union, on July 15, 1870.
2. Coca-Cola was invented in May 1886 by Dr. John S. Pemberton in Atlanta, Georgia. The name Coca-Cola was suggested by Dr. Pemberton's bookkeeper, Frank Robinson. He penned the name Coca-Cola in the flowing script that is famous today. Coca-Cola was first sold at a soda fountain in Jacob's Pharmacy in Atlanta by Willis Venable.
3. The figures of Stonewall Jackson, Jefferson Davis, and Robert E. Lee make up the world's largest sculpture. It is located on the face of Stone Mountain. Additionally Robert E. Lee's horse, Traveler, is also carved at the same place.
4. There is a tree in Athens, Georgia, that owns itself and an 8 foot radius of land. Professor William Jackson deeded the tree and the land to the tree in the early 19th century. That tree blew down in the '40s and was replaced with a new tree from the original’s acorn.
5. Atlanta is known as the birthplace of the Civil Rights Movement; you can find Martin Luther King Jr.’s house on Auburn Ave.
6. Atlanta is the capital of and the most populous city in the U.S. state of Georgia. In 1837, Atlanta was founded at the intersection of two railroad lines, and the city rose from the ashes of the American Civil War to become a national center of commerce.
7. Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park safeguards the sites of two major battles of the American Civil War: the Battle of Chickamauga and the Chattanooga Campaign making it the site of the bloodiest battle in American history.
