BYU Jerusalem Center | 2019 Video Tour
The Jerusalem Center is Brigham Young University’s center for study in Jerusalem. Students enroll through the BYU campus in Provo, Utah, travel to the Holy Land, and live in the Center for programs that last approximately four months. Students study a core curriculum that focuses on Old and New Testament, ancient and modern Near Eastern studies, and language (Hebrew and Arabic). Classroom study is built around field trips that cover the length and breadth of the Holy Land, as well as travel to Jordan and to either Egypt or Greece.
The Center itself is a beautiful building on Mount Scopus overlooking the Mount of Olives, the Kidron Valley, and the Old City. The 125,000-square-foot, eight-level structure is set amid five acres of beautifully landscaped gardens. The first five levels (moving up from the lowest level) provide dormitory and apartment space for students. Dormitory rooms accommodate four people with ample study space and a private bath. Each of these rooms has a patio overlooking the Old City. The sixth level houses a cafeteria, classrooms, computer facilities, and a gymnasium. Administrative and faculty offices are located on the seventh level, as is a 250-seat auditorium. The main entry is on the eighth level, which also contains a spectacular recital and special events auditorium with organ, lecture rooms, general and reserve libraries, offices, a domed theater, and a learning resource area.

My last semester of my undergrad was the winter semester of 2010. I had the amazing opportunity and blessing to attend the BYU study abroad in Israel/Palestine, Jordan, and Egypt. I bought a Flip camera when I went and I was thrilled with the results at the time. I just re-discovered this video I put together 5+ years ago and it brought back some incredible memories. I wasn't doing film professionally at the time and I made this specifically for my group but I still think it's fun and shows where I was back then. Enjoy!

Elder Cook Speaks at BYU Jerusalem Center
Elder Cook noted, “The genesis for this event was the extraordinary relationship and friendship that grew out of our collaborative effort to better get to know each other and our traditions that were important to both Jews and Latter-day Saints.”
“Interestingly, in the United States we each have a population of between 6 to 7 million. The center of Jewish influence is New York City and the East Coast; the center of Latter-day Saint influence is in Utah and the surrounding states,” explained the Mormon apostle.
“The Jewish delegation is composed of exceptional individuals and is a remarkable representation of the mainstreams of Judaism,” said Elder Cook. “It also includes major Jewish organizations. We express particular appreciation to Robert Abrams, who has been the primary impetus in developing this relationship.”
“We are grateful to join together in this commemorative event, which is also a commemoration of our friendship and our desire to unitedly participate in certain humanitarian projects in the future,” he added.
Elder Cook expressed appreciation to the New York delegation for arranging the meeting with the prime minister. He said, “the prime minister gave an impressive and comprehensive overview and update with respect to Israel.”
