Visit to Bandon Oregon Part 1 - Bullards Beach SP
On our annual return snowbird RV trip up the Oregon Coast this spring we stopped at a favorite little coastal town called Bandon Bandon-by-the-Sea.
I'm putting together a blog post about our stay which will include a 3 part video playlist showcasing the Bullards Beach State Park we stayed at, the cool little historical town district and of course the wickedly cool beach it is most famous for.
In this first video. I'll show you around the state park we camped in including an old historic lighthouse, the campground, and a hike / dog walk on a trail out to Bullards Beach.

Bandon Oregon - RV Travel Adventures E36
Bandon is a city in Coos County, Oregon, United States, on the south side of the mouth of the Coquille River. It was named by George Bennet, an Irish peer, who settled nearby in 1873 and named the town after Bandon in Ireland, his hometown.
We visit Old Town Bandon Oregon and then explore the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed this little piece of paradise along the Oregon coast.
After our day in the area we stayed at the Bullards Beach State Park. This campground was one our favorites on this trip.

Coquille River Lighthouse Bandon, Oregon
The Coquille River Light was first lit in 1896 to aid the transportation of goods and people to and from the mouth of the Coquille River. Simple, small, and inexpensive, the lighthouse was for many years the smallest on the Oregon coast. The tower, measuring 47 feet from its base, was equipped with a fourth order fresnel lens visible for up to 12 miles. In 1939, the original light was replaced with an automated beacon. Today, Coquille River Lighthouse is a part of Oregon's Bullards Beach State Park. The state has maintained, repaired, and restored the lighthouse over the years and, true to Oregon's status as one of the most environmentally-friendly states, the Coquille River tower now houses a solar-powered light.

In this video, I show you some video clips and photos from our day trip to Cape Arago State Park on the Oregon Coast. I also display some dashcam footage from Sunset Bay SP campground and the Sunset Bay beach.
This is one of the most pristine and rugged sections of the coast and the spring day was just fabulous. Clear blue skies and mild temps. We were able to witness hoards of sea lions on the rocks and islands just offshore.

Huge Wave Explosions! Shore Acres Storm Watching Oregon Coast
Shore Acres State Park is easily the best storm watching spot on the Oregon Coast and may just be one of the best spots in the world! The HUGE waves and resulting spectacular towering fountains of water (200'+) can be seen both north & south from many spots within the park. And, if you are lucky, you may get a glimpse of King Neptune or Poseidon, @1:20 in the video. Watching the waves crash in can be mesmerizing! If this sort of stuff is your cup of tea, 11 minutes is not enough! If you feel that all the waves look the same, skip to 8:00 in the video and watch from there.

This drive takes you along the Pacific Coast of Oregon, on the famed US 101 highway. The drive begins in Gold Beach, and heads north to Bandon. Along the way, it takes a scenic detour out to the lighthouse at Cape Blanco, the westernmost point in Oregon.

We drove up Highway 101 and stopped at Whaleshead Beach the day before the above video was shot. Located between Brookings and the Pistol River, it's part of the 12 mile long Samuel H. Boardman State Park. The dogs got their first taste of salt water that day, and it was quite cute. Cookie hung around me as the waves crashed ashore. She didn't know what to make of them. There's a small creek that meets the beach at Whealeshead and that made for an ideal delta for the dogs to play in. This beach actually often ranks in best beach lists for dog owners. The next day we walked around Bandon, and the above video captures some of the beauty. Bandon has amazing rock formations. Whealeshead is smaller - a secluded cove.
