Narrated sightseeing drive, 52 blocks of San Francisco
You are visiting from out of town, we hop in the car, wander around and see some sights (some touristy, some not). We'll follow Mississippi Street to 7th Street to Leavenworth Street, passing through the neighborhoods of Potrero Hill, Mission Bay, SoMa, Civic Center, Tenderloin, Nob Hill, Russian Hill, and Fisherman's Wharf. About 52 blocks in all, give or take, depending upon what you consider a block. Occasionally we'll teleport out of the car and take some side trips.
This started out as a regular drivelapse but somehow along the way morphed into a full driving tour, kind of a drivelapse-travelogue hybrid. Two cameras on board, plus GPS, and a chatty driver.
I'd be interested in any feedback on the closed captions, if you used them. It is maddeningly difficult to do anything remotely sophisticated with closed captions on YouTube because their closed caption implementation has tons of bugs and doesn't interpret most industry-standard captions correctly.

HEADLINE:Dogs find scent in Calif. kidnap suspect's yard
CAPTION: Authorities investigating two missing girl cases say that cadaver dogs picked up a scent that could indicate buried remains in the backyard of a Northern California couple already charged in a kidnapping. (Sept. 18)
[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE]
NB. THIS IS A VOICEOVER TRANSCRIPT, NOT A FULL SHOT LIST.
[Notes:aptn file]
A Northern California home has become the focal point in the investigation into at least two missing girl cases.
Authorities said cadaver dogs picked up a scent on the property Thursday.
That may indicate there are buried remains in Phillip and Nancy Garrido's backyard.
The couple has already been charged with the 19-91 kidnapping of Jaycee Dugard.
[Notes:pool: presser]
sot: After the dog gave what is determined to be somewhat of a tentative feel for the cadaver, we brought in a second dog and he also indicated on that particular part of the property. We're not going to say where that part of the property is, but it is definitely on the Garrido property.
Sgt. J.D. Nelson/Alameda County Sheriff's Dept.

Meanwhile-- this is what health inspectors said they found inside Garrido's home.
One official describes it as a pig sty.
Investigators plan to scan the site Friday with high-tech equipment.
[Notes:aptn file]
Jaycee Duggard was found living behind Garriod's home in a series of sheds and tents for nearly two decades.
She had apparently been living there since she was kidnaped as a young girl.
Garrido allegedly fathered two children with her.
Authorities said there are similarities between Duggard's case... And the case of two girls kidnapped in the late 1980s.
[Notes:pool: presser]
Sot: These cases have not been solved, and we are looking for answers. Answers for the family, answers to bring some resolution to both of these cases.
Lt. Kurt Von Savoye/Dublin Police Department
[Notes:pool file]
As for the Duggard case, Garrido and his wife have pleaded not guilty.
They're being held without bail in an El Dorado County jail.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! SUMMARY
=======
Sacramento ( SAK-rə-MEN-toh; Spanish: [sakɾaˈmento]) is the capital city of the U.S. state of California and the seat of Sacramento County. Located at the confluence of the Sacramento River and the American River in Northern California's Sacramento Valley, Sacramento's estimated 2018 population of 501,334 makes it the sixth-largest city in California and the 9th largest capital in the United States. Sacramento is the seat of the California Assembly, the Governor of California, and Supreme Court of California, making it the state's political center and a hub for lobbying and think tanks. Sacramento is also the cultural and economic core of the Sacramento metropolitan area, which had 2010 population of 2,414,783, making it the fifth largest in California.Sacramento is the fastest-growing major city in California, owing to its status as notable financial center on the West Coast and as a major educational hub, home of Sacramento State University and University of California, Davis. Similarly, Sacramento is a major center for the California healthcare industry, as the seat of Sutter Health, the world-renowned UC Davis Medical Center, and the UC Davis School of Medicine, and notable tourist destination in California, as the site of The California Museum, the Crocker Art Museum, California Hall of Fame, the California State Capitol Museum, and the Old Sacramento State Historic Park. Sacramento is known for its evolving contemporary culture, dubbed the most hipster city in California. In 2002, the Harvard University Civil Rights Project conducted for Time magazine named Sacramento America's Most Diverse City. Before the arrival of the Spanish, the area was inhabited by the Nisenan people indigenous peoples of California. Spanish cavalryman Gabriel Moraga named surveyed and named the Rio del Santísimo Sacramento (Sacramento River) in 1808, after the Blessed Sacrament, referring to the Eucharist in the Catholic Church. In 1839, Juan Bautista Alvarado, Mexican governor of Alta California granted the responsibility of colonizing the Sacramento Valley to Swiss-born, Mexican citizen John Augustus Sutter, who subsequently established Sutter's Fort and the settlement at the Rancho Nueva Helvetia. Following the American Conquest of California and the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo, the waterfront developed by Sutter began to be developed and incorporated in 1850 as the City of Sacramento. As a result of the California Gold Rush, Sacramento became a major commercial center and distribution point for Northern California, serving as the terminus for the Pony Express and the First Transcontinental Railroad.

Caltrans: Then and Now 1895-1995
This video was originally a slide show and script that was put together by a long time Caltrans employee, Structural Engineer Norman Root.
This was his history of Caltrans (aka State Highway Division of The Public Works Department of the State of California).
I was still new here at Caltrans in 1995 and was very impressed by Mr. Root's achievement. Slide shows had been the main stay of the department's outreach program since the early 1960's and I feel that Norman was using technology he was familiar with at the time.
I was on the cutting edge of Technology when I arrived here in District 7 Graphics Department, since I had a Beta SP Camera and a Video Toaster on the Amiga so I decided to enhance Norman's wonderful presentation.
I set up a slide projector in our old Room 12 Auditorium in the Basement of 120 South Spring Street and blew up the image so it filled the huge projection screen. Then taking a cue from Ken Burns (without the use of an animation stand) I panned, zoomed and animated the slides while holding the script in my hand for timing of the shots.
I hope you enjoy this throwback to an era not long gone, since this was made way before Caltrans acknowledged the internet, and digital video was a gleam in Apple's eye, this video has been sitting on my shelf for almost 20 years without a viewing and there are plenty more where this one came from.

Amazing unknown elevators @ The Flood Building - San Francisco CA
These elevators are absolutely amazing! I love how they have kept the historic feel. I love the bell when these start to move and how they are still semi caged. I believe that they are still caged, but the glass is just frosted. As for the building itself it is beautiful too! The service elevator is nothing special, so I didn’t bother on it. Next time I’m in SF I’ll definitely get a longer take of these.
