Sunnegga to Zermatt - Epic Swiss Mountain Biking Descent
I AM REUPLOADING THIS TO SOLVE THE AUDIO ISSUES ON THE FIRST ONE.
This was my first run on my first day of mountain biking in Zermatt, Switzerland. Toni and Julia, my guides from Bike School Zermatt took me up the Sunnegga Paradise funicular railway and then we cruised downhill all the way back to the village. This was a big change from riding in the Perth hills where 5 minutes is as long a descent as you will ever see! The trail is also steeper than it looks in the video - you can hear my brakes squealing in some points - despite the big rotors, they got really hot pulling me up. These tracks are largely hiking trails, but mountain bikes are allowed (the no entry to bikes sign on one trail is not an official sign - it was apparently set up by a grumpy restaurateur...). Toni had a cowbell on her bars to warn hikers of our approach - although you will see that halfway down we did give a couple a bit of a fright! This place is amazing and the views of the Matterhorn are simply breathtaking. The bike was a Cube Stereo 160mm hired from Slalom Sport and I filmed on my Hero 4 Black (chesty mounted) and Hero 3 Black (seatpost mounted).
Zermatt Mountain Biking, Switzerland - Blauherd to Sunnegga via Marmot Trail
More mountain biking in Switzerland! This video shows most of our run from Blauherd back down to Sunnegga via the Marmot Trail. After taking the funicular train to Sunnegga you switch onto a gondola for the ride up to Blauherd. Some bits of this were super steep and rocky (unfortunately a stray strap hanging over the lens of my GoPro wrecked my footage of the steepest section at the top) but the views of the Matterhorn and down into Zermatt were amazing and as you can see we were able to find some nice flow as we made our way down. You can also see the wooden sculptures of the marmots that inhabit these mountains - we didn't see any on this run, but we did elsewhere. Thanks again to Toni and Julia from Bike School Zermatt for showing me such an awesome place to ride. Shot on my GoPro Hero 3 and Hero 4 Black Editions.
Mountain biking in Zermatt, Switzerland
After a Few days riding in Lenzerheide, the CoalMTB Crew went on a Gnarly Ride to the top of the gornergrat, in Zermatt. The trail was insanely steep and technical. The Gopro Footy doesnt depict how insane it was.
Switzerland Mountain Biking - Zermatt Rocks!
This clip is highlights of one of the best days of riding I have ever had, exploring the trails around Zermatt in Switzerland with Toni and Julia from Zermatt Bike School. I had so much good footage from just one morning that it was quite hard to cut it all down into a short clip. We did 3 runs, 2 from the Sunnegga train and the other from the gondola to Schwarzsee. The bike was a Cube Stereo 160 hired from Slalom Sport in the village. What a beautiful place - I will never forget those views of the Matterhorn! Shot on my GoPro Hero 3 and 4 Black Editions.
Switzerland Mountain Biking - Riding the Gornergrat
This video is highlights of my second day of mountain biking at Zermatt in Switzerland in June 2015. Toni and Julia from Bike School Zermatt took me up the Gornergrat on the Gornergratbahn - the highest open air railway in Europe (the station is at 3089m above sea level). We did a couple of runs back down to Zermatt, passing through Rotenboden and Riffelalp and stopped to view the incredible reflections of the Matterhorn in the Riffelsee mountain lake. We rode less singletrack than the previous day, but the wide open, rocky tracks were still a lot of fun and for me riding past snow was a big novelty! The sheer amount of altitude had my brakes burning (almost literally - they smelt BAD) but the views were incredible and as we got down into the forest there was some nice twisty singletrack too. What an awesome place! Shot on my GoPro Hero 3 and 4 Black Editions.
Swiss Mountain Biking Zermatt - Schwarzsee, Hobbit Trail
This short section of trail was part of our run from Schwarzsee (right below the Matterhorn) back into Zermatt. My guides, Toni and Julia form Bike School Zermatt referred to it as the Hobbit Trail, because it looks and feels like something out of Middle Earth. There were so many different lines to choose from - you could ride this completely differently every time. And as always, the Swiss alpine scenery was amazing! Shot on my GoPro Hero 3 and 4 Black Editions.

Wedding Crashing on Mountain Bikes - Zermatt, Switzerland
During one of our runs from Sunnegga Paradise down to Zermatt we noticed we were passing people who were a bit more dressed up than the usual hikers. Soon after we passed a bride and groom, only to ride a bit further on to find the wedding guests enjoying drinks in the middle of the trail!
