Anza Borrego Milky Way Time-Lapse
Finally some dark sky!
We went down to Anza Borrego to enjoy the night sky. We went off-roading to Vista del Malpais, overlooking the badlands in Anza Borrego Desert California State Park.
We even got to see a double rainbow all the way! It was so intense!
I borrowed my brothers camera so that we could take two time-lapses at the same time.
Shooting info:
Both cameras are Canon T3i 600Ds. One was using an 8mm fisheye. The other was using a Tamron 17-50 2.8mm set at 17mm. The star time-lapses were 30 second exposures with the aperture wide open. The 8mm was at 6400 iso and the 17mm was at 3200 iso.

Meteor Shower from Borrego Springs, California
Fellow Flasher, Cory Wilcox, was in town for a meteor shower and I had just found and drank almost half a gallon of pre-made mocha coffee flavored milk, so we decided to drive out to Borrego Springs and check out this meteor shower since we had nothing else to do. All in all a real let down, but he did manage to pull a pretty cool time lapse out of it! #fgpsd

Anza-Borrego Desert Day and Night Time Lapse - March and April 2017
March 28 - April 13, 2017 plus a few favorites from 2016.

This video contains eleven time lapse sequences that I shot in various parts of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park between March 28 through April 13, 2017 as well as some clips from 2016. This is my second major video of this park so far this year. As with my previous video of this park, I spent several nights staying up all night in order to capture sunset, the night sky, and sunrise on several occasions. While shooting one of the sequences, I had to navigate down a mountain and avoid getting pricked by jumping cholla cacti in near total darkness. Cholla have pods of needles that very easily click to skin and clothing. One a needle gets in your skin, it's very painful to remove. First, the needles have tiny scales that act like barbs on a fish hook. You have the rip out part of your skin removing the needle. Second, the needles grow in clusters - if you don't have a pair of pliers handy, you need to use a couple of sticks or rocks to remove the things - or else your fingers get stabbed as well.
To prevent any unwanted light from ruining the shots, I used only the dim display (not the flash) of my phone to see where I was going. This was after setting up my camera rig to shoot for several hours and then return to the campsite in the meantime. Post-processing involved several evenings of working in Lightroom to get the white balance, contrast, clarity, highlights, shadows, etc. just right.
I shot this with my Canon 6D and Sigma 15mm Ex Dg and Tokina AT-X 17-35mm lenses. After editing, I ended up using 7794 individual frames in this video. Each scene was compiled using LRTimelapse and then I used Blender VSE to produce the final video.
This video contains sunrise, sunset, moon, stars, and Milky Way sequences. Also a couple of scenes of my campsite - along with a color-changing campfire made possible by Magic Flames.

Milky Way Over Borrego Springs From Font's Point in the Anza-Borrego Desert
Kevin Key / Slworking - September 29, 2018
Timelapse of a late-season Milky Way moving across the sky over badlands (visible towards the end when the moon rises and lights up the ground) and the town of Borrego Springs, California.
I shot this from atop Font's Point in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. I pointed the camera southwest and shot a total of 687 frames - each at 13 sec f/2.8 ISO 3200 15mm with a Canon 6D and Sigma 15mm EX DG lens. I did NOT use my camera cooling system this time as my 15mm lens is a bit too wide to fit the opening in the cooler (I need to do some modifications) and also the air temperature wasn't too hot. Some noise/grain is visible, but it's not too bad. In what seems to be a rare event in the desert at night - especially on a ridge like up here - the wind was fairly mild most of the time. The humidity was low (not too rare in the desert) and there as almost no haze in the air. Great conditions for shooting the Milky Way.
In this video you can see the lights of downtown Borrego Springs, traffic on Highway 78, the Montezuma Grade, Yaqui Pass, and more. You can also see the rotating beacon at the Borrego Springs Airport. Towards the end of the video, the moon rises (out of frame) and nicely illuminates the badlands and turns the sky blue. Background music is a snippet of Cosmo Pulse by Maxim Kornyshev.
Font's Point is a scenic viewpoint in the Borrego Badlands area of the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park in San Diego County. I've heard some people call it San Diego's Grand Canyon.
The area is named after Father Pedro Font, a Franciscan Friar who accompanied Spanish Conquistador Juan Bautista de Anza on his explorations through the valley. Anza opened up the desert route that the Spanish used as an overland supply route between Mexico and settlements as far north as San Francisco.
