Find your Zen in Fukui JAPAN | Experience Fukui
For this month’s video, I take you around Fukui City, JAPAN!
Did you know Fukui Prefecture is home to many Zen Buddhist temples? At the Daianzenji Temple in Fukui City, I experience zazen seated meditation and shakyou, the practice of hand-copying Buddhist sutras!
Next, I take you to the Fukui Castle Ruins in the heart of the city for a little history lesson.
Then, I go for a walk in the beautiful Yokokan Garden, representative of the Edo period (1603-1868). The fall colors are stunning!

2013夏の旅Part20・勝山市内散策(Katsuyama citywalk)
2013.08.12 勝山駅からバスで平泉寺白山神社へと向かいました。
平泉寺は中世には北陸で一大勢力の寺院だったようです。
一向一揆で全山焼き討ちに遭い壊滅したそうです。
一時、やや復興したそうですが、明治の神仏分離で神社のみが残り、現在に至っています。
近年、平泉寺の発掘調査も進んでいるようで、発掘調査の現場も見られるようです。
ここには立ち寄る時間がありませんでした。
勝山城博物館は展望台ありの博物館です。
石垣から鯱までの高さだけは日本一です。
越前大仏は閉まっている仲見世の並びと大仏の大きさに驚きました。
勝山城博物館及び越前大仏は多田清翁の建設だそうです。
時間が無く、大仏殿のみの拝観となってしまいました。
また、勝山は恐竜でも有名なところです。
次回、訪れる機会があったときには恐竜博物館もと思っています。
