Carleton Martello Tower in Saint John, New Brunswick, is one of the nine surviving Martello Towers in Canada.
Construction of this tower began in 1813 during the war of 1812, on a rocky cliff guard the land approach to the city.
The Tower is a circular masonry structure 30ft high and 50ft in diameter.
This Tower is currently undergoing vital restoration work and the visitors are not allowed to enter the tower.

The Martello Tower at Sandymount was built in 1804. There were 28 towers built in Dublin, 16 on the southside and 12 on the northside, for example in Sutton, Howth and on Dalkey Island and Killiney Hill.

Saint John is a city on the shore of the Bay of Fundy, in New Brunswick, Canada. It’s known for the Reversing Rapids, a phenomenon caused by bay tides colliding with the Saint John River. Food and craft stalls fill the Saint John City Market, in an 1876 building. On a peninsula nearby, trails wind through Irving Nature Park’s salt marshes, volcanic rock and forests. The 1913 Imperial Theatre stages plays, concerts and dance.

Our names are Olivia Clancy and Helena Woodley, and this is our entry for the Sherrard Orthodontics video contest. We were both born and raised in the Greater Saint John Area and consider ourselves to be true Saint Johners at heart! Olivia currently studies Nutrition at StFX University in Antigonish, NS, and Helena is entering her fourth year of a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at UNBSJ. In the future, Olivia is planning to complete her degree and move into a dietetic internship, and Helena will be in pursuit of a Masters in Clinical Psychology. As the title suggests, we think Saint John is a hoppin' place and that everyone should appreciate the beauty of our little city!
