Castello di Volpaia - Riserva 2012 - Chianti Classico
Castello di Volpaia - Riserva 2012 - Chianti Classico tasted by the Best Sommelier in the World Andreas Larsson.
Stewed Red Berries, Sweet Spiciness, Well-Balanced
Red wine with a medium-deep ruby red colour. It’s youthful and fresh on the nose; this one is showing more primary fruit, no presence of oak really, more on the red berry, red cherry, with a certain sweet spiciness. The palate has medium weight in terms of fruitiness, still with a youthful extract and pronounced tannins on the mid-palate; but rather well-balanced, and I think the tannin gives a lift to that rather sweet – almost cooked – fruit, like stewed red berries. It has a certain length, medium towards long, and I think it appears pretty drinkable today. One more year and it will gain some more roundness; but nicely made in a traditional style.

Red Cherry, Rosehip, Mild Spices
Quite low colour intensity here. Light ruby with a slightly tawny rim. Pure nose. Indicating sweet fruit, red cherry, some floral hints, mild spices and no evidence of oak. Classically built palate here, with high acidity. Quite pronounced tannin, slightly dry tannin. With elegant red fruit, such as cherry, rosehip. Nothing flesh or bold. Rather a discreet style. Medium weight, but with a rather long finish. I think this one is gaining more complexity and roundness on the finish. Still appearing a bit youthful and I suppose this is a wine that should develop nicely over the coming two to four years. Overall, a good balance in what I would call a rather classical style.
