CHAO PHRAYA RIVER CRUISE FROM AYUTTHAYA TO BANGKOK
After visiting the ancient city of Ayutthaya and learning about the capital of the kingdom of Siam, we took a boat on our way back to Bangkok on the Chao Phraya river. The river cruise takes a couple of hours but it is very comfortable and with good Thai food. By cruising in the Chao Phraya river from Ayutthaya we can see temples, Buddha statues and villages, until we get to the skyscrapers of Bangkok.
Ayutthaya (พระนครศรีอยุธยา) city is the capital of Ayutthaya province in Thailand. The city was founded in 1350 by King U Thong, who went there to escape a smallpox outbreak in Lop Buri and proclaimed it the capital of his kingdom, often referred to as the Ayutthaya kingdom or Siam. It is estimated that Ayutthaya by the year 1600 CE had a population of about 300,000, with the population perhaps reaching 1,000,000 around 1700 CE, making it one of the world's largest cities at that time.
In 1767 the city was destroyed by the Burmese army, resulting in the collapse of the kingdom. The ruins of the old city now form the Ayutthaya historical park, which is recognized internationally as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

How to use the CHAO PHRAYA EXPRESS BOAT in Bangkok ( Co van Kessel Guide )
For more information: covankessel.com
In this video we explain you how to use the Chao Phraya Express Boat. This is a really convenient transport to use in Bangkok to beat the traffic and it’s also a lot of fun. Use the river in Bangkok instead of the busy streets and beat the traffic.
There are 5 different colored boats you can take, but to not confuse you, we only recommend 2 of them. The orange boat and the blue boat.
We use the example to use the Orange Flag Boat from N13 to N3 Si Phraya to get to our office at Co van Kessel
This video is part of a web series about Bangkok and in this series we show you how to get around in Bangkok, Thailand.

Looking for an authentic and unique adventure? Co van Kessel bike tours and boat tours provides a refreshing alternative to the tired tourist experience. We do not battle the crowds at clichéd destinations promoted in guide books, but turn your attention to quaint local communities and charming excursions into the fascinating lifestyle and culture of real Thai people. Every day is different and every tour is a surprise as we focus not on destinations, but lose ourselves in the enchantment of the journey itself.
Co van Kessel, an innovative and adventurous Dutchman, pioneered bicycle tours in Bangkok more than 30 years ago. As a longtime resident and self-professed lover of Bangkok, he understood very well the picture of accelerated urban development (gridlocked traffic, concrete towers, and choking pollution) that has plagued the recent image of the city. He also had a hunch that this was not what Bangkok or Thailand was all about.
Making it his goal to re-discover Bangkok, Co spent thousands of hours on his mountain bike exploring the vast network of local streets, alleyways, footpaths and canals between the main urban thoroughfares. What he found, lurking behind the facade of modernization, were hidden worlds of peace and tranquility, a picture of “real” Thai life that has remained unchanged for countless decades; an identity of a city that is true to the Thai people, yet largely unknown to outsiders.
Whether it’s the colorful sights and smells of the local markets, the fascinating life of locals along the canals, or the surprising existence of bountiful green belts, Co discovered the essence of what makes Bangkok one of Asia’s most captivating cities. Since then, it has been his mission to share these discoveries with the rest of the world.

Ships passing on Chao Praya, Ayutthaya, Thailand
A barge cruises by hauling a load of 4 ships, all dragging low in the water. A gaggle of tourists disembarks a sightseeing pontoon and a ferry zips past.
This is a Sunday afternoon in Thailand's most important old city, Ayutthaya. I spent the day biking around and visiting old temples, ruins of an ancient civilization. Now caked in sunscreen, sweat and road grime, it's time to sit by the river, contented by the ceaseless flow of life.

On The Chao Phraya River from Bang Pa-in Palace to Ayutthaya, Thailand
Instead of driving from Bang Pa-in Palace directly to Ayutthaya, guide, Julie, had hired a long tail boat to motor up the Chao Phraya River, the same river that runs through Bangkok.
It's more interesting chugging upriver, watching the residents bathe, tidy up their homes and enjoy all the different river traffic. Huge barges, tugboats, motor boats, long tail boats and covered rice barges. Many of the rice barges have been converted for tourist use and it's possible to bus in one direction to Ayutthaya and take a rice barge back to Bangkok.
