Glen Arbor, MI - August 2016
Just some GoPro footage from the few days we spent in Northern Michigan.

Under the Radar! - Michigan - Glen Arbor / St. Ignace
On this episode of Under The Radar Michigan, we head for one of our most beautiful sandy places, Glen Arbor. While there, we'll show you two kinds of art ... the kind you appreciate ... and the kind that serves you great food and drink. We'll also climb to the top of a pyramid, and visit the one and only Cherry Republic. Then, we head north to St. Ignace for a psychedelic greasy spoon you won't soon forget. We'll also climb to the top of Castle Rock, and discover why smoking fish is a very Manley thing to do. Oh, and of course ... what's a visit to St. Ignace without a quick stop at the Mystery Spot. Episode 304.
Glen Arbor's resilience after the storm
Two days after the Aug. 2 mega storm that decimated forests and roads around Glen Arbor, the Glen Arbor Sun caught up with (Cherry Republic CEO) Bob and Stephanie Sutherland on their evening stroll south on M-22 — one of the hardest hit areas. They expressed sadness at the loss of trees, but amazement at how quickly Glen Arbor citizens are recovering.

Everything Cherry in Michigan plus Awesome Casino Camping
On this Airstream Life vLog, we take you along as we get some dinner and do some wine tasting in Glen Arbor Michigan. What a cute town! Our dry camping spot is only a few minutes from Glen Arbor and Sleeping Bear Dunes which is why we decided to camp here.
In Glen Arbor, we start with a nice wine tasting before moving over to the Cherry Republic Public House. Yum! We have cherry based dinners, cherry based drinks and even cherry based ice cream for Steve. Have I mentioned that cherry is STeve's favorite fruit? Perfect!
Then after a night time walk where we are both a bit goofy (who talks about the names of dragon flys?), it's time for us to pack up and head out the next morning. On our way to our next camping location, we stop at Good Harbor Winery. How did we know we could stop? Google maps! We always check out the parking lots on Google Maps before deciding whether to attempt stopping with the Airstream. After a small quick wine tasting, we drive the last few minutes over to Leelanau Sands Casino where they have RV parking with 50amp electric for $10 a night. Score! We plan to spend a few days here to explore the wineries in this region before heading the 40 minutes south to Traverse City.
Stay tuned in our next video for fun & wine and then a HUGE change scary of plans...

A quick video tour of a site near the waterfront.

Shari G.'s Review on The Dyrt:
▶︎ Near the famous Sleeping Bear Dune Climb!
This beautifully wooded campground sits on the edge of Lake Michigan, just south of the famous Sleeping Bear Dunes. All sites have picnic tables and fire rings, and water spigots and pit toilets are scattered throughout the campground. Some sites have direct access to the beach and there is a nice bike/walking path connected to the campground. It can accommodate everything from tents to very large RV’s.
No matter if you are into climbing dunes, cycling, water sports or watching sunsets, there is something for everyone to do. There is even a unique firewood vending truck which allows you to get wood whenever you want it!
Just a few miles from the campground are the towns of Empire and Glen Arbor, which have great eats and drinks at various restaurants. Be sure to stop by the famous Cherry Republic, the ode to the deliciously tart Michigan cherry.

Product Review: As a Ranger for The Dyrt, I was able to test the Men's OOcloog Project Pink Clog ( I won a gift card from The Dyrt in May and ordered a pair for myself and my husband.
What I like most about these shoes:
Very comfortable and lightweight. I’m on my feet all day at work and my feet don’t hurt at the end. It’s kind of like having one of those cushy “cashier mats” attached to your feet.
I wear socks with them mostly, and my feet don’t sweat. My feet do sweat quite a bit without socks though.
Great traction. I’ve worn them on slippery surfaces without a problem -- campground showers, on the boat, and in a commercial kitchen.
Versatile and classy. They can go from work to play because they have cleaner lines and a slimmer toe box than most other plastic clogs. I now wear them as much camping as a I do at work.
Quite durable, with no signs of wear yet.
Some challenges we encountered:
Shipping is sllooo It took almost 2 weeks for these shoes to arrive and they were not on backorder. N...

Ranger Review of the Klymit Motion 60 Backpack

Shari G.'s Review on The Dyrt:
▶︎ Ranger Review: Klymit Motion 60 Backpack at White Pine Backcountry Camp
Campground Review: What an adorable little “backcountry” camp in the middle of Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. Just 1.5 miles on a very easy sandy trail from the parking area at the Lake Michigan shore is this 6 site campground complete with a reasonably clean pit toilet and group cooking/campfire area with bear box.
Each site has a bit of privacy as they are well spread out from each other and have a good deal of space for multiple small tents, though no tent pads which could be a drainage issue. Nicely wooded, so lots of shade, but also lots of mosquitoes in the late spring/early summer months...bring your bug spray! The trail to the beach is just about ¼ mile across the dunes from the campground.
We ran into a group of young girls from a nearby summer camp who were experiencing their first “backpacking” adventure. They were adorable and having a ton of fun, but if you are seeking to get away from kids and tourists, be forewarned that the kid's camp nearby uses this area throughout the summer months.
In addition to this campground, there are endless options for activities in the area from dune climbing to all types of water sports to cycling to wine tasting to gorgeous sunsets! Lots of good eats in the village of Empire and Glen Arbor as well. The Village Inn in Empire has amazing pizza and Boonedocks in Glen Arbor has good food and fun music on the deck. Don't miss out on Cherry Republic's fun treats, too.
Backcountry permits of $10 per night are required from the Sleeping Bear Dunes Visitor’s Center.
