Species Exploration: Fishing A Small Clear Creek (Backbone State Park, IA)
In this video Vivian and I explore a crystal clear stream at Backbone State Park to see what sort of species it holds. Our primary target was darters, but even our size 30 fly hooks seemed too big. (We'll since added some Tanago hooks to our arsenal.) The darters were present and fishable, though, so we'll be taking a trip back up here for sure. In the mean time we managed four species of fish out of this very clear, very shallow creek, including two species of trout! We thought we had Vivian's 24th species, but it was misidentified (one more reason to come back). We spent three days camping up here and have two more parts to this series coming up soon.

Ralston Creek Multi-species Fishing.
Ralston Creek is a great spot for multi-species in Iowa City. The creek connects to the Iowa River below the Burlington Dam. In this video I catch quillback carpsucker, white bass, wiper (hybrid) bass, freshwater drum. There are a lot of black and smallmouth buffalo in the creek and I snagged a lot but didn't land any.
Check out these channels. First link for each is my favorite videos of theirs.

Mormon Pioneer Trail Way Point - Garden Grove, Iowa
After years of persecution and the martyrdom of their founder, Joseph Smith, the members of the Church of Christ, now known as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, were forced to leave their homes in Nauvoo, Illinois, in search of peace and freedom.
Under the direction of Smith’s successor, Brigham Young, the saints (members) of the Church travelled 1,300 miles to what is now Salt Lake City.
This migration of 70,000 people was not an easy one, and here, in Garden Grove, Iowa, 144 miles into the journey from Nauvoo, a lead party set up the first way point (temporary settlement) for those in need of rest or aid.
Fun Fact - Due to their strong missionary work, there are more members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints outside of the United States than there are within.

I have never specifically targeted trout before. My trout experience is very limited. Antonio wanted to show me how it's done so we took the canoe out to Prarie Park Fishery in Cedar Rapids, IA on Otis Rd. where the DNR stocks rainbow trout a few times a year.
