Coquille River Lighthouse Bandon, Oregon
The Coquille River Light was first lit in 1896 to aid the transportation of goods and people to and from the mouth of the Coquille River. Simple, small, and inexpensive, the lighthouse was for many years the smallest on the Oregon coast. The tower, measuring 47 feet from its base, was equipped with a fourth order fresnel lens visible for up to 12 miles. In 1939, the original light was replaced with an automated beacon. Today, Coquille River Lighthouse is a part of Oregon's Bullards Beach State Park. The state has maintained, repaired, and restored the lighthouse over the years and, true to Oregon's status as one of the most environmentally-friendly states, the Coquille River tower now houses a solar-powered light.
Bandon Oregon Lighthouse, Coquille River
Originally named Bandon Light, Coquille River Light was commissioned in 1895. First lit on February 29, 1896, the light guided mariners past the dangerous shifting sandbars into the Coquille River and harbor at Bandon. The light contained a fourth-order Fresnel lens and connected to the nearby keepers house by a wooden walkway. In September 1936, a large wildfire swept through the surrounding area, and destroyed most of Bandon. The town soon became bankrupt as a result of the decline in shipping. Coquille Light was shut down in 1939 and replaced by an automated light on the south jetty.
The light was originally built with a Daboll trumpet for its foghorn, which was used as the light's fog signal for several years. However, at certain times due to specific weather conditions, the sound of the trumpet would fail at sea, and in 1910 the trumpet was replaced by a more reliable fog siren. While mariners liked the new signal, many Bandon residents did not. The siren would eventually be removed along with the Fresnel lens after the light's decommissioning.
Over the next 37 years, the condition of the light deteriorated due to neglect and vandalism, until the 1976, when its first major restoration began. However, by this time, the keepers quarters and other outbuildings had deteriorated past the point of repair, and were eventually removed. In 1991, a new solar powered light was installed in the tower. Currently, a new set of renovations are being done to the light as an ongoing project, and is estimated to finish sometime in 2011.

Coquille Lighthouse 2018
In late March of 2018, we decided to go and see the Coquille River Lighthouse as part of our Oregon journey. It's a quaint little lighthouse, one of 8 along the Oregon coast. We walked down to the nearby beach and watched the waves and sea lions play. Though we were too early in the season for a tour of the lighthouse, it was still very enjoyable.

Lighthouse - Oregon Coast
In this episode of Cheap Family Travel ( Nick, Regan, Maggie, and Kate spent a day along the Oregon Coast, at the Coquille Lighthouse near Bandon, Oregon. Also known as Bandon Light, Coquille is part of Bullard's Beach State Park and is just across the river from the Bandon Marsh Wildlife Refuge. This was our second visit to Bandon by the Sea, and we love to collect fossils and sea shells at Bandon, the Cranberry Capital of the World. The Coquille Light is one of eight remaining lighthouses along the Oregon Coast, and tours to the top of the lighthouse are given by volunteers throughout the summer. Bullard's Beach State Park gets a thumbs up from Cheap family travel - twice!

Coquille Point - Bandon, Oregon
Bandon Oregon - RV Travel Adventures E36
Bandon is a city in Coos County, Oregon, United States, on the south side of the mouth of the Coquille River. It was named by George Bennet, an Irish peer, who settled nearby in 1873 and named the town after Bandon in Ireland, his hometown.
We visit Old Town Bandon Oregon and then explore the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed this little piece of paradise along the Oregon coast.
After our day in the area we stayed at the Bullards Beach State Park. This campground was one our favorites on this trip.

Tour of Bandon Oregon Feb 16th 2012
In this video my friend drives me around Bandon Oregon. Sit back and put on the ol reading glasses and enjoy this video. There's a lot of nice views of the Bandon Oregon coastline. See the Bandon Lighthouse where the Coquille River meets the Pacific Ocean. Then there's Bandon Old Town and for kicks a house Clint Eastwood owns.
Sorry folks there's no audio. I did add a few subtitles to help explain what you are viewing. The audio was just two old friends ratchet jawing and I left it out of this online version for privacy reasons and to keep my wife from killing me as we talked of past women and pleasures. (I kid, that last part was a joke, just a joke honey, but it's funny right?).
This was shot on Feb 16th 2012. I also want to mention that there are a lot of other business's that are not on this Video. Subway, Dairy Queen, lots of nice Motels a Supermarket and Coffee Stand, Outdoor Bar-B-Que Stand and many neat little shops to browse.
My thanks to Perry for taking me on this tour and for the home cooked pasta meal with veggies and bread. Just as Robert Plant sang about Kashmir I will return again.
Till Then
Peace
Steve
