Exploring The Appalachian Trail | North Carolina & Eastern Tennessee
After leaving Georgia at Bly Gap (mile 78), the Appalachian Trail climbs and descends through North Carolina for 96 miles, hits the Tennessee state line at Doe Knob (mile 174), then spends the next 292 miles criss-crossing between the two states. The AT follows this state line until reaching Virginia at mile 466.
The climbs become more significant through North Carolina and Tennessee, but many are designed with switchbacks to ease the pain. Hikers will get above 6,000 feet through the Smokies, meaning early spring NOBOs will likely experience seriously cold conditions in this rugged, scenic national park.
There are thousands of attractions on the Appalachian Trail that are worth seeing.
The Appalachian Trail begins, for most people, on Springer Mountain in the great State of Georgia. The AT ends 2,189 miles to the north at Mount Katahdin, just beyond the 100-Mile Wilderness in Maine.
What attractions on the Appalachian Trail you see will depend on how much time you have to dawdle.
If you don't have time to appreciate spectacular spots along the way, these links to attractions on the Appalachian Trail can help you decide where to visit when you do get a bit of free time.
It happens.
Until you can hit the Trail yourself or with loved ones, take a virtual tour of quaint towns, dandy restaurants, cool People of the Trail, fun festivals and spots that will beckon you onto America's Beloved Path.
Enjoy your time on the Appalachian Trail. From home or in any of the 14 states that are graced by the AT.
I'll take you there.

Craft Brewery CPA - Microbrewery CPA Evan Hutcheson
Craft Brewery CPA ( In a specialized industry such as the craft brewery industry it is always important to have a CPA who is knowledgeable about the ins and outs of the trade. This industry has many unique aspects related to the managerial, financial and regulatory side of things that an accountant familiar with the craft brewery and microbrewery business will be aware of but that a general accounting firm may well be in the dark about.
The value of having an industry savvy CPA will be apparent through the combination of accounting expertise with business consulting. For example, as a CPA focused on this niche, I’m able to stay abreast of the compliance standards whether it be the TTB ( or different issues with the state and local governments.
Growth in this industry can be challenging to manage as well. You might find that you do not use enough capital in your tanks or other equipment and your supply is not quite catching up to the increasing demand. Or you can have the complete opposite problem.
Inventory control can also be an issue. You need to manage it as well as cost of goods sold so that you can make sure that you’re using your ingredients efficiently and you’re pricing your output correctly. My firm is able to guide businesses within this industry through different process improvements and other best practices. Whatever your issue might be, I can do my best to help you with making the right decisions moving forward.

Wow, three letters that describe a wondrous evening provided by the management team at the newest craft brewery, Elkmont Exchange in the up and coming Downtown North area. Chris Meadows, former Lead Brewer for Sweetwater Brewing Company in Atlanta, GA, has teamed up with Alex Violette of Colorado's Uplslope Brewing Co. to create some delectably unique craft beers.
Jon Newman, renowned charcuterie designer and curator in Nashville, has jumped on board to command attention as the Sous Chef to bright culinary mind Ryan Davenport. One of our personal favorite individuals we had the opportunity to speak with last night was, JT Dewitt, nationally accomplished restauranteur, and now, Elkmont General Manager.
JT Dewitt started his exodus from my hometoen of Naples, Florida to the Elkmont Exchange team with twenty years of restaurant industry experience. Dewitt's work with the Darden group, and managing the Bonefish Grill in Naples has prepared him will for a brand new venture with Elkmont.
This team seems to come together in a way that allows each facet of Elkmont Exchange to shine. The 8 years of beer mastery and flavor profiling that Chris Meadows aquired while at SweetWater, are echoed in the exotic and exciting flavor pairings provided at Elkmont Exchange. He has assisted in the development of the company’s celebrated barrel aging program, and attained a degree in Advanced Brewing Science & Engineering from the American Brewers Guild. It is also worth noting that Chris was acknowledged as Sweetwater Brewing Company’s Brewer of the Year in 2016!
Executive Chef Ryan Davenport developed a wide array of culinary knowledge while at Nashville’s upscale restaurant, Flyte. It was here that Davenport met Sous Chef Jon Newman. With a background in Food Science from Grand Rapids Culinary College in Michigan, Jon Newman brings a new twist to Elkmont's menu. He and Davenport come together to make culinary music in the kitchen and each bite dances off your tongue.
Panda and I ordered the Forager's Stew and the Elkmont Burger with Waffle Fries. Each bite was magic! The attention to detail touched my heart that the Forager's stew was true to the region, full of mountain leeks, plentiful soy beans and chive. The stand out about the burger, was the quality of the beef. Each patty is made from Bear Creek Farm Fresh never frozen Beef and served with sweet onion marmalade, beer mustard and pimento cheese on a warm buttered bun.
The process with which this Brewery and Eatery was created with such cadence is truly the work of art. All in all, I feel that Elkmont Exchange will prove to make not only the Knoxville Community proud, but also the families who spent their summers in the forest amongst the fireflies so long ago.
A well balanced blend of modern hipness, and a hint of the history resonating from Elkmont's long forgotten past, make this a destination worth stopping for.
