24 Miles The Historic Crow Pass Trail Backpacking Alaska.
Song: Zelda Lost Woods (Trap Remix)
Artsit:Unknown
This has been a hike i've grown up hearing about in eagle river be for i even knew i would enjoy the backcountry as much as i do today. The Historic Crow pass leading you from Eagle River, to Girdwood, or vis versa. The Grueling 24 mile hike offers out of this world views and more chances of coming face to face with a big brown bear then youd like to count.
2 days and 1 night is all we needed to clear this hike and man, was it worth it checking it off the list. Wish i had more footage to share but quite honestly i was taking it all in myself.

Eagle River Packrafting - Hiking and Rafting Along the Historic Iditarod Trail in Alaska
For a quick weekend trip I hiked up the Historic Iditarod Trail along the Eagle River in the Chugach Mountains State Park. My route followed the historic Iditarod Trail toward Crow Pass.
I saw Mountain Goats, Moose, and Dall Sheep. I also got far enough to see the Eagle Glacier for the first time. After camping out I used my Kokopelli Nirvana Self Bailer packraft to raft out. The Eagle River was low at this point so being able to jump in and out of the self bailer was nice.
Turnagain Arm Trail
This video is kind of a starter hiking video for me. I have been slowly updating from ancient equipment to more modern day gear from computer, software, image formats, even cameras used, as well as camping gear. As it is not entirely necessary joint the ultra light hiking camp for long distance that I am preparing for, I have made the choice to try to go as light as I can. In doing so, by base weight hiking gear before camera gear and food and water, is about 7 pounds right now, which includes (2 person tent, pack, 5* sleeping bag, sleeping mat, stove and pot and hiking poles). This base weigh will climb some to maybe 11-12lbs. This is in preparation for perhaps a 2019 PCT hike (2650 miles). With that in mind, I intend to document the trip with video for the fun it along the route, as I will also take pictures along the way as well. Through the course of 2018 three season period, I will be building experience in every facet of this type of journey undertaking, Including tying to improve my on camera presence which is a bit rough right now. I will also talk a little about gear that I am using along this process of preparation.
The videos this summer will be about Hiking trails around South Central Alaska, or the Anchorage area. So by late fall this year, you will be able to get a pretty good Idea of the majestic beauty this area of Alaska has in the way of Hiking and Backpacking.
I hope you enjoy these videos, and find some benefit from them, and maybe you will be encourage to view this wonderful area for yourselves.

Crow Creek Mine - Crow Creek Historic Gold Mine Alaska
Crow Creek Mine - Crow Creek Historic Gold Mine AlaskaMy family and I came here for a wedding which by the way was AMAZING! It was my first time ever coming over here and I thought it was pretty cool.
There is enough space here to hold quite a lot of people.
The wedding was awesome and this peaceful place makes it even better.
There is also enough parking for a bunch of cars.
A close look at what the Crow Creek Mine from the 1890s looks like today.
Pretty awesome!

8 Hero Dogs SAVE The Day
Here’s our list of real life heroic dogs. Their unbelievable loyalty and bravery rescued humans in need.
Subscribe to Bored Badger:
When a Magnitude 7.1 Earthquake hit central Mexico it left much of the area in ruin. Many people were trapped in the rubble of buildings when one special Labrador came to the Rescue. Equipped with a heightened sense of smell, tireless work ethic and custom made rescue gear including goggles and boots, Frida scoured the wreckage. In her short career Frida has saved over 50 lives. The people of Mexico can siesta worry free knowing Frida is on the job.
It was an afternoon just like any other. Paula Goodwin was walking her 6 month old golden retriever Todd on a trail near her home in Anthem Arizona when she nearly stepped on a Rattle Snake. Rattle Snakes are venomous predators that live in a wide variety of climates and are the leading contributor to snake bite injuries in North America. When Goodwin almost stomped on the poisonous serpent it became agitated and lunged at her fangs first. Luckily for Paula, Todd jumped to her rescue. The heroic retriever intercepted the snakes attack and took a bite in the muzzle.
Some heroes wear leashes. Amelia Milling a 21 year old University of Tennessee student was hiking the Crow Pass Trail in Chugach State Park 30 miles outside of Anchorage Alaska during her summer break. One of her trekking poles broke and she tumbled down a mountain! After the protracted fall she was lying on the ground and pondering her new empathy for the slinky when she saw what she believed to be a Wolf. Having seen The Grey and knowing that even the mighty Liam Neason is no match for an Alaskan Wolf pack, she began to panic.
In Philadelphia Pennsylvania in 2016 a couple was awoken in the middle of the night to the sound of their neighbor’s dog’s panicked barking. According to the couple, the 14 year old Lab/Chow mix by the name of Che never barks in the middle of the night. Che’s atypical behavior prompted them to investigate the disturbance. To their horror they discovered that Che’s Owner’s house was on fire!! They immediately called the fire department who arrived at the scene shortly thereafter. It was discovered that the Owners of the burning home were fast asleep when Che’s keen nose sensed the smoke emanating from the fire.
In 2017 in Fort Lauderdale Florida a chihuaua mix dog by the name of Mary was with her owner visiting the Seminole Tribe reservation. They were on a walk in the woods around 9pm when Mary suddenly started barking. Two bear cubs emerged from the bushes. Mary ran up to engage the cubs instinctually protecting her owner. Immediately a mother bear jumped onto the trail and began mauling Mary. Mother bears are notorious for the ferocity when protecting their cubs.

Where in the heck is Girdwood? And why would we go there?
We left Homer, heading north, unsure of our destination. We knew we were going to stop in Girdwood for a hike and Anchorage for groceries. We still hadn't decided if we were going to head back south toward Valdez first or just start our descent back down out of Alaska.
Our first stop was Girdwood. We had heard about an easy hike that had a hand tram over a river. This sounded cool, so we headed that way. Doug and Emmett stayed behind in the RV, which was a good choice because it was a muddy, slippery trail. It was raining and we got wet. As we approached the hand tram there were a bunch of people with lots of camera equipment. We asked the first what they were doing and she said, making a film. I guess we had already figured that one out. The second person we asked a more direct question, What is your film about? He thought he had a pretty good sense of humor and said Mayonnaise. We finally asked a third and he said it was a UCLA college thesis project. Anyway, there were a bunch of people and they pulled us across the hand tram, which was nice because it was a long way and it's heavy to pull. It was awesome, well worth the hike in the rain.
We were still debating on whether or not to go the extra 120 miles to check out Valdez. We took a vote and it was 50/50. The weather wasn't looking good, cold and rainy. We searched on the internet to see what we'd be missing. Besides checking out a new place and the beach the thing the kids would like the most would be the fish hatchery. The salmon are spawning and heading upstream back to the hatchery to lay their eggs. And since there are so many salmon there are also seals looking for a meal. This would be cool to see but with the not so great gas mileage we get in the RV, it would cost us about an extra $150 in gas, plus 2 days of driving. We've seen a lot of seals and salmon and hatcheries, so we decided a better option would be to spend a couple days in the Largest National Park.
So we headed to Anchorage on our way to Wrangell St. Elias. In the travel magazines the kids saw an Ulu factory tour. It was more of a gift shop, but they did get to see how the Ulu knives are made. We also took a trolley to the federal building where they were able to get a couple more Jr. Ranger badges and do a scavenger hunt. Then we headed to Costco and filled the fridge and cupboards and had some pizza for lunch. And drove some more before ending our day with a delicious salmon dinner in the Winnebago in the parking lot of Wasilla Walmart.
Next stop, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park.

ALASKA CHUGACH STATE PARK FLYBY
In the summer of 1990 John Fortner and Brian Zenk were dive bombed while they were hiking up in Chugach State Park at least ten times by an experimental aircraft. On a several flybys the plane was at least twenty feet off the ground and just above our heads. We were doing some dancing on that day to get out of the planes way. After the first buzzing all we could do is keep our eyes on the airplane, he came out of nowhere. We were up hiking on Flattop Mountain in Anchorage Alaska and we could see all the way down the valley looking toward Powerline Pass. The plane dive bombed us and when it was done with us it flew around in the valley buzzing the slopes of the mountains and then flew away over the pass. He stalled the aircraft a few times and did some gliding in the wind currents for at least a half hour. The airplane was completely white and did not have any standard FAA required identity numbers at that time. The snow in Anchorage crushed the plane this year so this story did not end well in 2012 twenty two years later. This animation was inspired from that actual amazing situation. The experimental plane was impressive and seeing an airplane going really fast and up really close was just awesome ! We did not feel scared and we were not upset about this event. Seeing an aircraft going full speed up close we felt it was a personal air show. Any information concerning this historic event would be welcome.
Alaska By Air - helicopter viewing of wildlife and glaciers in Chugach National Forest YouTube
A two hour very scenic helicopter flight with Alpine Air over the Chugach National Forest to Lake George and landing on the Colony glacier. You will see goats, bears, moose and deer in their natural habitat. Glacier pools and streams as well as new born rivers will amaze you. Rivers of ice and snow and avalanches from snow covered ridges will leave you with everlasting impressions. Beautifully photographed and presented. Enjoy Alaska.
