In this episode of Sailing A B Sea we make our final push north to mainland Greece and we go back in time to visit the Acropolis where the ancient Greek Parthenon stands.
Athens was our objective in our final push north where we needed to pick up a Mantus chain hook from a marine chandler and while we were in Athens we also took some time to climb the Acropolis and visit the ancient Greek Parthenon.

In 1885, Archduke Ludwig Salvator wrote of the Greek island of Paxos: ‘At the taverns, tripe, heads and feet from sheep, goats and cattle are prepared.Fried whitebait, meat with celery and potatoes, green beans, peas, chickpeas, broad beans as well as greens with garlic and oil, and much red pepper, are eaten.’More than a century later, you can still find such fare on the island (though perhaps not so many heads or feet), but these days there’s a whole lot more in Paxos to savour.According to some, ‘you don’t go to Greece for the food’, but that depends on your tastes.The Mediterranean diet of fish, salad, olive oil and wine is the one recommended for a healthy heart, and although Greece comes below the UK in life-expectancy rankings, that may have more to do with the smoking than the food.The Mail On Sunday's Tim Bentinck checked out the food scene on the Greek island of Paxos I’m a sucker for a plate of meze, a glass or two of red, and a huge pile of whitebait, so I would have liked to have been at the Archduke’s side as he toured the island by foot for 18 months, recording and drawing everything he saw.His book, Paxos And Antipaxos, is extraordinary. Ludwig gave out 100-page questionnaires to all the village elders and records diet, occupation, administration, taxation, geography, history, architecture, politics and more.These things may seem irrelevant as you bask in the glorious sunshine and warm, clear waters, but while so much is unchanged, one thing is very different.‘There are no vehicles on Paxos,’ Ludwig notes with admiration. The road-builders who upgraded the island’s donkey tracks must have been from Devon, and Britons accustomed to one-track country roads will experience familiar frustrations, driving their tiny hire cars at the oncoming Alfa Romeos that treat the narrow lanes like their own personal race-tracks.Quaint: Tim says the village of Loggos is a 'delightful mixture of small boats, tavernas and beautiful art exhibitions and classical music in the Old Schoolhouse' On a previous visit we hired an underpowered scooter, which we took back after a day.Labouring to get the two of us around a near-vertical hairpin, we encountered the Gaios to Loggos bus needing the full width of the road as it hurtled down the hill.This year I noticed two-seater, side-by-side quad bikes, or ATVs. They look like a whole lot of fun, and are the perfect size for the island roads.Paxos is not large. One morning we rented a little vessel from Julia’s Boat Hire at Loggos, and would have circumnavigated the island by lunchtime if we hadn’t pootled around, stopping to snorkel and explore caves, then pull up the awning, have a delicious meal and lie on the deck, dreaming of vast yachts with Bond-style radar domes and docked subs between the twin hulls.This was our fifth visit to Paxos and the first time we’d come across real haute cuisine on the island Then one such beast came past, clearly in pursuit of a super-villain, and the wash nearly bounced us clean into the water.The west side of the island features huge cliffs and few beaches, but caves and very deep water for spectacular diving.From the boat we could see our lovely Villa Gardinia, a quiet one-bedroom retreat with pool and breathtaking views.Bliss. As we passed the Erimitis cliffs, Judy remembered reading about a restaurant there, which boasted brilliant sunsets and wonderful food, so we thought we’d investigate.On the drive back to our villa, we turned down a tiny track and bounced along the ever deteriorating surface until, improbably, we came upon a modern, chic, expansive outdoor restaurant, with added art gallery, and the most beautiful view of the imposing cliffs and incipient sunset.We booked a table for the following evening. A village in northern Spain has become a hive of prostitution. La Jonquera, close to the French border, has become home to a large number of brothels.
Sex workers also line the streets and locals are worried about both their safety and their reputation. It is a problem for the whole country, says Sònia Martínez Juli, mayor of La Jonquera: The first thing people see when they arrive in Spain are prostitutes. The owner of what he says is the biggest sex club in Europe, Paradise, predictably defends his business. The Spaniard Dani Farled, meanwhile, the son of a sex worker, is more critical of the industry. His mother worked for years as a prostitute in La Jonquera; his father was her pimp. Today, he remains in the milieu, where he works as a tattoo artist. In the film, French sex tourists, who account for ninety percent of the market here, explain their motives and a Romanian street prostitute explains why Spain is an attractive place for her to work. A recent study by the Madrid University Comillas found that Spain was well on its way to becoming Europe’s leading nation when it comes to the sex industry: It already has more prostitutes than any other European nation.

Nouveau et Dernier Vlog de la série sur Rhodes ! ( Après nous partons à la Découverte d'une Nouvelle Destination !!!)
Nous sommes partis à la découverte du petit village typique d'AFANTOU ou AFANDOU, un des plus vieux village de l'île de Rhodes !
Pour la petite histoire, le village est situé dans un creux naturel formé par les trois collines qui l’entourent et le rendent invisible de la mer, ce qui le protégeait des attaques de pirates.????
Un village très joli à découvrir, avec de nombreux monuments historiques et des églises comme celle de la Vierge Marie ou celle de Notre-Dame-la-Catholique avec ses étonnantes fresques datant du XVIIe siècle.
Ensuite, nous sommes partis découvrir la Plage d'AFANTOU ( AFANTOU BEACH) dont nous avions beaucoup entendu parlé... Une très belle surprise ! Une immense plage aménagée d'environ 7 kilomètres, avec ses eaux cristallines et ses petits galets !!! Un pur régal !!!
Nous avons ensuite poursuivi notre journée par un : FALIRAKI TOUR ! Nous avons parcourus les rues calmes la journée, mais très très animées la nuit tombée ! C'est la STATION BALNEAIRE de l'île ! Restaurants, bars de nuits, discothèques... Toute l'animation nocturne est là !
Et enfin, nous avons fini l'après midi par un petit tour du côté des Thermes de KALITHEA, un bel endroit à découvrir !
Et une petite suprise à la fin de ce Vlog !
Voila, notre Voyage à Rhodes prend fin ici, c'est vraiment une île coup de coeur pour nous ! Et nous espérons vraiment pouvoir y retourner très bientôt !

Let’s begin our charter in the South of France!

Day 1. Embarkation in Cannes.

Go on the top of the city “Haute de Ville” and take panoramic pictures. Visit the market of Forville and view beautiful yachts based along the Quayside St. Pierre. Palais des Festivals hosts the International Film Festival, and it is worth visiting.
Day 2. Monaco and Monte Carlo.
The smallest French-speaking country, famous for the beaches and the casinos. Monaco is the base port of some of the world’s largest yachts! Home to the annual Grand Prix de Monaco, the Formula One Race.
Explore exclusive boutiques, visit Grimaldi Royal Palace, eat at Michelin-starred restaurants, discover the secrets of the marine world at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco. Monte Carlo is the magnet of the world’s jet-setters.
Day 3. St. Tropez
At the heart of the French Riviera. Brigitte Bardot transformed this fishing port to an International tourist mecca when she stayed in the area in the 1950s.
Visit Place des Lices where you can even see Hollywood stars in one of the shops around the area, the Old Port, Citadelle de St. Tropez, Place des Lices.
Day 4. Villefranche-Sur-Mer
Located at the base of Cap Ferrat.Villefranche is a picturesque port with pastel-colored buildings and narrow streets. A base for beautiful anchorages.
The main street can bring you to the top of this medieval village where you can take amazing pictures of the red house roofs and see with the anchored fantastic yachts. Don’t miss to walk the Rue Obscura, a street that is covered and lighted by white lamps.
Visit also Citadelle Saint-Elme, built in 1557 to protect the port of the town.
Day 5. Saint-Jean Cap Ferrat
At the tip of the Cap Ferrat, visit Grand Hotel du Cap and the villa Ile in France, open to the public. The pine forest the tour of the Cap Ferrat and the Maurice Rouvier are part of the 14 kilometers path of the Saint Jean Cap Ferrat.
Day 6. Antibes
Resort Town. It was a Greek fortified town named Antipolis, in the 5th Century, BC.
Today a beautiful port, with an active life, many attractions within the historical city center. Very nice bistros, beautiful Michelin starred restaurants, etc. Visit the Musee Picasso, the Market, and hike along the coast. Bask on the beach and have a drink listening to jazz music at Absinthe Bar.
Day 7. Nice
Founded by the Greeks. Later became a magnet city for the European Elite in the 19th century.
The historical part of Nice is like a medieval village with old buildings and narrow streets.
Walk along the Promenade des Anglais, visit the luxurious Hotel Negresco, the local market on the Cours Saleya, the Matisse Museum and the Modern Art Museum.
One day is not enough in Nice. Disembarkation next day.

Naked moments in Turkish baths and hamams
We don't know the rules: We don't know how, when or if they'll be nude, and we don't know the proper procedure. So, what can you learn from my initial visit to a Turkish hamam?
Turkish baths (Hamams) are a wonderful and exciting part of Turkish culture. They provide a great opportunity to relax, socialize, and to try a very different approach to the spa and sauna experience. However, they're also pretty daunting for foreigners. This video shares my (less than ideal, but no less hilariously awkward) introduction to the Turkish Bath experience in the Turkish city of Antalya in a hamam building that dates back more than 600 years. To spice things up a bit - I've also heard various rumors (after the fact) that this hamam in particular is extremely gay-friendly (i'm straight). Probably for the best I didn't know that before hand, given how uncomfortable I was to begin with but a great added nugget of context for the story.
It is worth noting that I've since learned that many tourist-centered baths will actually provide you with your own underwear-like swimsuit if you request it.

If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

The humanitarian response by national governments to the 2010 Haiti earthquake included numerous national governments from around the world pledging to send humanitarian aid to the Haitian people. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and ReliefWeb are coordinating and tracking this aid.More than six months later after the earthquake, less than one-tenth of the money that was pledged by foreign governments to the United Nations special fund for the Haiti quake was actually received. As of 20 July 2010 of all the nations that had pledged money to this fund only 20 countries had actually sent any money: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the United States. Others have sent supplies and/or personnel instead of money, and/or they pledged or sent money outside of the UN channels.
Initial pledges of assistance were tracked by the US Congressional Research Service. In 2015, the United Nations reported that US$13.34 billion had been earmarked for Haiti through 2020, though in the two years following the quake, less than half of that amount had been deployed.
