Higashiyama Walking Course, Takayama, Japan, 高山 - Canon 80D - Virtual Trip
The Higashiyama or Higashiyama Yûhodô Trail is a hike well known to everyone traveling to Takayama. It defines the city to the east and let us discover a dozen temples at the foot of the mountain. Higashiyama Yûhodô crosses Teramachi (the temple district still called Higashiyama) and ends at Shiroyama Park, at the foot of the ruins of the castle. This small, discreet path leads to the back of the houses and leads from temple to temple for a cultural visit of the city.

Takayama Sanmachi-suji , Japan, 高山 | Canon 80D | Virtual Trip
Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan has become, over time, a major tourist destination in Japan. Long known to Japanese for its bi-annual festivals, among the three most beautiful in Japan, the city is also famous throughout the country and beyond for its dishes, including Takayama beef or Takayama-gyū. But what most probably attracts tourists from all over the world is the quiet ambience and setting of the city and its historic district, straight out of the Edo period (1600-1868).
Sanmachi-suji are three parallel streets: Ichi-no-machi, Ni-no-machi and San-no-machi, bounded on the west by the Miyagawa River and on the east by the mountain: the configuration of Takayama resembles in every respect that of Higashiyama in Kyoto and reminds us particularly of the famous district of Gion.
These ancient pedestrian walkways, lined with inns, restaurants, sake breweries or private houses, with their lattice windows and dark wood facades, the sakura that line the river, all this beauty transports the visitor to the heart. of old Japan, as we imagine it.

VISITING AN ANCIENT JAPANESE SAMURAI CASTLE IN HIMEJI
I’m making my way down from Kyoto to Hiroshima on the bullet train now and I wanted to stop off at the famous Himeji castle. Himeji Castle is the largest and most visited castle in Japan, and it was registered in 1993 as one of the first UNESCO World Heritage sites in the country.
It dates back to the Feudal period in Japan and i was super impressed to walk around the castle and imagine what it would have been like back in the days of the Samurai.

Takayama Gifu Japan
This video was recorded somewhere in Takayama Japan 07/03/2017.
I came to see the Old Town but I have to say my hike through the cemetery and the woods was the most memorable part in Takayama.
(Plus the Red Hill Pub recommended by Lonely Planet)
It was something that we did not planned but somehow our walk lead us to all theses places.
The guy in the video, I think his name was Tom from Switzerland, I ran into him probably 4 times throughout Japan.

▼ About Yasukuni Shrine (quoted from the official site)
The origins of Yasukuni Jinja lie in a shrine called Shokonsha, which was established at Kudan in Tokyo in the second year of the Meiji era (1869) by the will of the Emperor Meiji. In 1879, it was renamed Yasukuni Jinja.
When the Emperor Meiji visited Shokonsha for the first time on January 27, 1874, he composed a poem: “I assure those of you who fought and died for your country that your names will live forever at this shrine in Musashino.” As expressed by this poem, Yasukuni Jinja was established to commemorate and honor the achievements of those who dedicated their precious lives to their country. The name “Yasukuni,” bestowed by the Emperor Meiji, means to preserve peace for the entire nation.
Currently, more than 2,466,000 divinities are enshrined here at Yasukuni Jinja. These are the souls of the many people who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their nation since 1853, during national crises such as the Boshin War, the Seinan War, the Sino-Japanese and Russo-Japanese wars, World War I, the Manchurian Incident, the China Incident, and the Greater East Asian War (World War II). These people, regardless of their rank or social standing, are considered to be completely equal and worshipped as venerable divinities of Yasukuni.
According to traditional Japanese beliefs, respect and awe for the deceased are best expressed by treating the dead in the same manner as if they were alive. Hence, at Yasukuni Jinja, rituals to offer meals and to dedicate words of appreciation to the dead are repeated daily. And, twice every year-in the spring and autumn-major rites are conducted at which offerings from His Majesty the Emperor are dedicated. These rites are also attended by members of the Imperial family.
Thus, Yasukuni Jinja has a deep relationship with the Japanese Imperial family. Also, five million people visit the shrine every year in its function as a central institution for commemorating those who died in wars.
