Mikedem Gallery, Zefat
Within the picturesque alleys of the old quarter of Safed, in an unrivaled atmosphere, lies Mikedem Gallery. The gallery houses a rich and moving collection of classic-modern Israeli art.
The spirituality and history that suffuse the surroundings of Mikedem gallery have brought the finest Israeli artists to choose it as a home for their works.
Modern international Israeli artists such as Ruth Bloch, Leonid Balaklav and Ya'akov Agam display unique sculptures and paintings, both original and highly valuable.
Background on a few of our leading artists-
Leonid Balaklav emigrated from Russia in 1989. From an early age Leonid was marked as a promising gifted artist, and exhibited in galleries and museums. 3 years after coming to Israel Leonid settled in Jerusalem and became religious. The gallery exhibits a variety of original art works in different techniques such as oil on canvas and oil on wood panels. In 2015 Leonid was featured in a solo exhibition in The Tel Aviv Museum of Art called An Obsessive Portraitist.
Ruth Bloch sculpts in bronze. Her art is displayed all over the world in galleries and parks. Ruth focusses on femininity, relations and dialogue between partners. All are characterized with flow, movement, romance and harmony.
Tolla Inbar sculpts in bronze. Tolla was born in 1958 in Germany and moved to Israel in 1971. Each one of Tolla's works has been created with very deep spiritual symbolism. Combined with action, motion and growth, Tolla has become one of the world's leading sculpture artists.
Ilan Baruch was born in 1974 to a religious family from the Geula neighborhood in Jerusalem. In 1988 he began his studies at the School of Painting and Sculpture founded by Rabbi Adin Steinzaltz, where he met painter Lillian Klapisch, who taught there at the time. In 1992 Klapisch exhibited Ilan's paintings at the Nidbach exhibition at the Artists' House in Jerusalem.
Zvi Lachman Born on the eve of Tishah B’Av 22 July 1950. He is a master of bronze. Sculptor, painter, draughtsman, thinker and teacher, Zvi Lachman proves just how eclectic, diverse, and wide ranging the new figurative art can be. He has become an influential teacher and has inspired a generation of students. He has taught at the Bezalel Academy of Art, and now teaches painting & sculpture at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.
Marc Tuchulkin Born in 1958 in the former Soviet Union. He received his formal art training at the Dnepropetrovsk Institute of Art and immigrated to Israel in the 1990's. Marc is one of the most interesting artists of our time and an acclaimed master of modern Israeli paintings. The artist's traditional training at prestigious art schools is evident in his painting, plastic art, drawing and compositions yet does not deduct from his spontaneous style and only compliments his view that his art is a game in which the viewer is free to accept (or reject) the rules.
