Visiting Denali National Park and Preserve, National park in Alaska, United States
Denali /dɨˈnaːli/ (also known as Mount McKinley, its former official name)[6] is the highest mountain peak in North America, with a summit elevation of 20,310 feet (6,190.5 m) above sea level. At some 18,000 ft (5,500 m), the base-to-peak rise is the largest of any mountain situated entirely above sea level.[7] With a topographic prominence of 20,156 feet (6,144 m) and a topographic isolation of 4,629 miles (7,450 km), Denali is the third most prominent and third most isolated peak after Mount Everest and Aconcagua. Located in the Alaska Range in the interior of the U.S. state of Alaska, Denali is the centerpiece of Denali National Park and Preserve. For more info, visit this link:

Clear Skies to McGonagall Pass - Denali National Park Alaska
3 night backpacking trip to McGonagall Pass in Denali National Park, Alaska.
A tough trip in 3 nights, 4+ nights is recommended for easier and more relaxed hiking, but 3 is doable with long days. With some of the most amazing sights possible of Denali on clear days, we were lucky enough to have bluebird days all 4 days!
Routefinding can be challenging as this hike has many social trails woven through the rugged tundra. There is one (unmarked) trail that is most often used and offers the fastest hiking, but is tough to follow and easy to lose track of at times.
This hike involves a crossing of the McKinley River, a potentially very dangerous river crossing! It's crucial to be informed and prepared for this river crossing- knowledge of advanced river crossing techniques, the best current crossing routes, as well as current weather & water level conditions is all critical info for a safe crossing.
Adventures at Denali National Park Alaska
Our first camping trip of the spring season. We're so lucky to have Denali National Park only a short drive away from where we live in Fairbanks, Alaska. It is held as one of the most beautiful State Parks in North America. We've spent quite a bit of time here and it never ceases to take our breath away. It's a place covered in lushes grasslands and snowy peaks for as far as the eye can see.
Normally, the road into the park stops for private entry around mid May and it is open exclusively to commercial buses for the rest of the summer season before closing in winter. However, there's a short window between when the snow melts on the service road and when the park opens for business. During that time, private vehicles can drive into the park for quite a ways. This is an amazing opportunity for hiking, car-side photography and camping without having to deal with the hustle and bustle during the summer tourist season.
We had a blast and hope you enjoy our video. This will be the first of our many adventures this season and we hope to share them all with you.

Scenic Shuttle Ride in Alaska's Denali National Park
The shuttle driver stopped often on the Park Road for wildlife viewing, photo ops, rest stops and to pick up hikers. The building at the start of the video is the Wilderness Access Center in Denali National Park where shuttle tickets are sold and the shuttles are boarded. The Park Ranger who boarded the shuttle at Mile 14 is about as enthusiastic a Park Ranger as I've ever seen. Clearly loves her job!
The Toklat River at Mile 53 is the final stop for the Toklat shuttle. The Eielson Visitor Center is located at Mile 66 and may be reached by the Eielsen shuttle, which didn't start running this year until June 1. My ride to Toklat was on May 31, 2017. The round trip to Toklat took 6 hours. The round trip to Eielsen by shuttle takes 9 hours. Private vehicles aren't allowed on the Denali Park Road beyond Mile 14.

Journey to Alaska Episode 7: Denali National Park Tips
Denali means The Big One and it didn't disappoint. We took a bus tour to Eielson Visitor Center and saw grizzlies, dall sheep, caribou, moose, golden eagle, and at the grand finale, Denali herself. We also hiked the Savage River Alpine trail and took in the dog sled kennels. Along the way we learned a few things that will help visitors make the most of their visit.
