HIKING WITH ELEPHANTS (ETHICALLY)!: Elephant Valley Project, Cambodia!
Seeing elephants in an ethical way can be difficult, but we found a wonderful sanctuary outside of Senmonorom, Mondulkiri, Cambodia. It's The Elephant Valley Project!
Unlike the fake sanctuaries around South East Asia, this one was legit. The places that let you ride, pet, feed, play or bathe with the elephants... The places that force these animals to do tricks for you like pick you up with their trunks or paint you a picture... Those places don’t have the animals best interest at heart and often do major physical and mental and emotional harm to their elephants. Elephant Valley Project, however, is different.
Their elephants are out enjoying their lands while being watched and cared for by their mahouts. When groups of visitors come to see the elephants, the mahouts radio their location and we hike off to them. We watch the elephants enjoy going where they like and doing what they want. Because these aren’t wild elephants that can’t care for themselves, this is the closest to natural their lives can get.

South East Asia is full of organisations that help and protect the asian elephants. The EVP does exactly that but in new and pioneering way that includes the helps of local communities.
ELEPHANT VALLEY PROJECT CAMBODIA - TEASER (Little Footprints)
Hi, we are Little Footprints, a group of travellers, who hope to inspire you with what we are sharing.
- Check our blog
As we announced before going to Cambodia, this trip wasn't just about the mountains, the sea, the history or even just about the people we meet on our way; but did we actually know, back then, what it really was about?
What we did know, however was that we will make a video, as we have done before, and that this time we wanted to take it to another level, and whether we succeeded or not it is left for you to judge.
After the first 12h spent in the EVP, we knew that our documentary will no longer be, as initially planned, about Cambodia in general - the breathtaking forests near Sen Monorom city, the encountered people, and what's most important the cause they all serve inspired us so deeply, that we wish to share our experience with whomever will agree to listen.

The Elephant Valley Project in Cambodia| VEGAN| What I ate
Hey everyone! So i was lucky enough to spend three days with these beautiful elephants at the Elephant Valley Project! The project is all about providing a safe haven for elephants in Cambodia who have spent most of thier life being mistreated and put to work in either the logging or tourism industry.
It was honestly such a privledge to be able to witness these beautiful creatures just be themselves and be allowed to eat as much as they want. They were so happy and they had created such amazing friendships with not only the elephants but the incredible staff that have dedicated their lives to ensuring these elephants have a safe place to live out the rest of thier lives
The project also has a wide range of other initiatives that enable the local villages to create a better future for thier children!
I also show you what a typical day was like here at the project, including what i ate and where i stayed!
Here is their website if you would like to learn more about the project or even visit! Cannot recommend it enough!!!

The Elephant Valley Project in Mondulkiri, Cambodia
Have you seen elephants up close before? The highlight of my time in Cambodia in December 2016 was visiting the Elephant Valley Project in Mondulkiri. Here you can see the elephants talking, bathing, eating and spreading mud all over their bodies. You can read their story and my experience at hofftoexplore.com
Visiting the Elephant Valley Project in Cambodia [2018]
This video has a bit of footage of my visit to the EVP - Elephant Valley Project in the Mondulkiri province, Cambodia. Although those elephants are not wild, they are kind of protecting nature and wildlife in the sanctuary. It felt a bit strange seeing these elephants, as it's not the real wildlife. I prefer to watch wildlife without interaction, but I decided to go and check it out. The EVP should be the best tour around concerning the health of the elephants. Their tours are also supported by WWF.
