Mettlehorn climb part 1
On a trip to Switzerland in September 2009 I found a camcorder half-buried in a glacier beneath the summit of the Mettlehorn - this is the footage recovered from the tape. Alongside the camcorder were a pair of sunglasses and a bag, but I could only retrieve the tape because the ice was so tough (and I didn't want to linger because it was all a bit creepy).
The footage ends as the two men begin their descent - I found their camcorder approximately 50 meters from the final scene, presumably on the traverse they would have taken. The tape is probably 4 years old - there was a date stamp at the beginning of the video, but I can't be sure. It looked like the items had recently emerged from the ice.
It's a long shot but maybe someone knows who they are and can solve the mystery?
Here's a translation of the video (many thanks to Sven - a friend of a friend (of a friend))
There you have red-horn, we have been walking for 2 hour, another 3 to go. 2km climb. This way we walked ... says the view is bad due to clouds and that is pretty chilly. Hotel du trift. Gonne drink a cup of coffee. its now 7:20am
Beautiful, first coffee, bye
They are sitting at the table and talking about the coffee and looks at the map to see how high they are. They are a little less then half way. Audio is bad on the kid, probably talk about the hat and stuff. Kid says he is not awake. Talks about his sister. Kid name is Richard. Guy talks about the weather and the moutain hotel. Cut to map, at the 60 they went, didn't go to a hotel there. Walked passed the creek and we are now at trift. Go villeboden ... talks futher about his trip, names places and cuts to sign, that say 3km to go. Talks about the view and the way they will walk.
Stream, bad audio. Turns to him and says, he, now i'm also on (the camera). bad audio. Kid says something ... take of jacket due to heat. Could have said his name but didn't catch it.
Its not 8:30 and weather could improve. Sheep about ... ice but its a reflection of him on the ground says dad. Ok walking further. Long shades due to the sun, my big friend (zooms in on the mountain). Talks about snow coeiloir (dunno how to type it) being the direct route up but dangerous. Stone stuff, clouds, does a 360 and stops at the weishorn, dark mark is the way to walk and that is the top (13:50). Zooms in on a dear and talk about how nice but that they say them and they have to be careful.

The Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation provides year-round ski and snowboard training and competition opportunities for 500 Wood River Valley athletes each year. Our origins are rooted in the Sun Valley Ski Club as our foundation was established as an integral part of the ski club in 1966; it was a way for the SVSC to provide racing opportunities for juniors. Since that time the SVSEF has helped numerous junior racers achieve dreams of Olympic medals, World Championship podiums, World Cup victories, and National Championship gold. More importantly, we have helped an innumerable number of athletes become skiing aficionados for life. Not only are the alumni of the ski foundation some of the best skiers on any mountain, anywhere, they are “setting the bar high” in all facets of life including family, work and community.
