The Village of Saintfield County Down - Northern Ireland
When it comes to the villages to explore in Northern Ireland, Saintfield is one of them. Saintfield is a village and civil parish in County Down, which is located about halfway between Belfast and Downpatrick.
Before coming to the point that it became called Saintfield, this village was known as Tawnaghnym and then Taunaghnieve, actually this English translation did not appear and come to use until the 18th century. Saintfield has gone through lots of events throughout the history before it reached the state it is at during the moment.
There are several different destinations that one could visit when it comes to Saintfield in County Down, such as the Rowallane Garden that is situated south of the village, there are also the different old buildings which are located on the main street and which have old stables and courtyards behind them, the Market House and the Hotel could be also seen on the main street but a little bit different since one is a private house and the other turned to an orange hall.
While we were visiting this village in county Down, we have passed by a couple of places which we consider are good attractions for one to check and these include the cafes, the bakeries, as well as the other historical buildings which would tell more about the history of the place. We passed by Saint Cafe and checked the interesting sandwiches and sweet stuff which they offer, we have also been to Saintfield Griddle Home Bakery with their sweet bakeries and stuff, there is also the Rowallane Garden which one will enjoy the green spaces while walking there, and all these come of course in addition to the old buildings and streets which the visitors will check to know more about the history of the place.
In addition to those places and suggestions which we have brought in this video to all those who are considering a trip to Saintfield, there are some other places which they could go to as well, such as Saintfield Library, the Rademon Estate Distillery, Kiltonga Wildlife Reserve ( which is not far away from this town, and lots of other different places which one could find through walking down the city and exploring its streets and old buildings.
When one talks about the villages that are found in Northern Ireland in general, just like the village of Saintfield in County Down, there are some other suggestions for people searching for a place to go to, such as Carnlough fishing village which is located in county Antrim and which is the perfect destination for having a nice time and not just for fishing ( the Portballintrae beach village which is also found in Northern Ireland and is a good hit ( and there are some other ones which people could go to and check according to the whole plan they have in Northern Ireland and the different destinations they are already planning to visit.
Back in the 16th century, Saintfield was part of South Clannaboy that was owned by Sir Con McNeil Oge O'Neil, and this land was granted to Sir James Hamilton afterwards in 1605 who planted English and Scottish settlers in the area. Saintfield was the early 17th century settlement with the first church being built in 1633. Major General Nicholas Price of Hollymount bought the village in 1709 and he was the one who changed its name to Saintfield at the end.
Nicholas Price was the one to take care of Saintfield village until his death and he was also the one who encouraged linen and tradesmen to settle, established a barracks, repaired the parish church and established markets and fairs. Price was also the reason behind the number of corn, flour and flax mills which are found out there in the village and which some of them still exist until today, and also has gained a tradition of textile manufacture through Saintfield yarns.
From that point on, churches were built and the village started to gain its importance that we know all about it at this point and we even recommend it for those who are considering a new place to go to and discover in Northern Ireland.
Have you ever been to the Village of Saintfield in county Down before? You could plan your trip and also visit Banbridge in County Down ( go and check the Tollymore Forest ( and also manage to go to Down County Museum and check what it has to offer you from history (
There is always something to see in the place you are travelling to and visiting, and when it comes to County Down then Saintfield is one of the options to consider along with going to other places which are located around the village or close enough for one to go and check.

- Gallery
Castle Fraser, Aberdeenshire.
The real Fraser’s Dragoones were a coalescence in the Beauly area of Inverness with a number of experienced and veteran soldiers from the continental wars.
As such, the regiment quickly earned a reputation as one of the most formidable units in Lord Leven’s Army of the Covenant, during the English Civil war which consisted of 21 regiments between 18,000 – 21,000 strong of which Fraser’s was the only dragoon regiment.
Today, “Fraser’s Dragoones” are the most northerly regiment of the Sealed Knot re-enactment society, formed in the 1970s.
39th G8 Summit Photographs at Lough Erne Resort Hotel
We were down at the wonderful Lough Erne Resort Hotel just outside Enniskillen Co Fermanagh for two nights. We had never stayed previously but we had heard plenty of good reports. The reports were not wrong! We had a fantastic mini break.
Yet another remarkable Lough Erne Resort Hotel accolade is that it was chosen to host the 39th G 8 Summit. 10 of the top people running the world met up on 17–18 June 2013 for a series of round table discussions. The hotel has marked this auspicious occasion by a placing groups of photographs that 'capture the moment', around various hotel locations.
G8 leaders present- Herman Van Rompuy, Enrico Letta, Stephen Harper, François Hollande, Barack Obama, David Cameron, Vladimir Putin, Angela Merkel, José Manuel Barroso and Shinzō Abe.
G8 Summit at Lough Erne 17–18 June 2013
'Lough Erne Resort hosted what Prime Minister Cameron states as “one of the most successful and peaceful summits in recent memory”on 17th& 18th June 2013 when the world's leaders and their delegations met for bilateral negotiations on tax, trade and transparency. The Resort, following months of visits from Downing Street staff, received confirmation from Prime Minister Cameron in November 2012 that they would be the host venue for the event and at that point began to prepare for Northern Ireland’s most important visitors in 2013. The decision to use Lough Erne Resort was based on the secure location, which allowed the leaders to conduct their negotiations in a private setting against a stunning backdrop. The leaders stayed at the resort's Lodges where they each had the privacy required while their relevant delegations stayed in the hotel. The G8 Summit's bilateral negotiations took place primarily in the Loughside Lodge which was transformed to suit the Summit's requirements while meetings also took place in the Gordon Wilson Library.
Ferghal Purcell, General Manager at Lough Erne Resort states: “Lough Erne was really an ideal location - it was only ever a two minute walk of private golf road to their lodgings. They were in splendid isolation. On any one day, having any one of the world leaders visit would have been a serious task. The fact that they were all here together almost made it easier. We had to ensure a high standard of care and professionalism for all delegates and that everyone was treated equally.” On the world leaders' visit to Lough Erne Resort and the use of the facilities at the resort such as The Thai Spa, gym and two stunning golf courses, Mr Purcell says: “These guys were here work, and work they did, from morning to night. Other than Prime Minister Cameron taking a dip in the Lough one morning, they simply didn’t have time to enjoy a Thai massage or a round of golf, although we would be delighted to welcome them back at any time for a more leisurely visit.”
Overall, the Lough Erne Summit was considered a success for Prime Minister Cameron as well as the local region, “Peak season began sooner and lasted longer because of the G8, not just here at Lough Erne Resort, but for all of us hoteliers in the Fermanagh area. At Lough Erne Resort, we have shown a tangible benefit which will have a knock-on effect. We have a wonderful property, it's in great shape, and we had a great two years. Our challenge now is to grow and build on the success of the G8.”
'The 39th G8 summit was held on 17–18 June 2013, at the Lough Erne Resort, a five-star hotel and golf resort on the shore of Lough Erne in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. It was the sixth G8 summit to be held in the United Kingdom and the first to be held in Northern Ireland. The earlier G8 summits hosted by the United Kingdom were held in London (1977, 1984, 1991), Birmingham (1998) and Gleneagles (2005).
The official theme of the summit was tax evasion and transparency. However, the Syrian civil war dominated the discussions. A seven-point plan on Syria was agreed after much debate. Other agreements included a way to automate the sharing of tax information, new rules for mining companies, and a pledge to end payments for kidnap victim releases. The United States and the European Union agreed to begin talks towards a broad trade agreement.'

Question Time: Culture, Arts and Leisure Tuesday 28 April 2015
The majority of Oral Question time to the Minister of Culture, Arts and Leisure was taken up with questions relating to the development of Windsor Park. Mr David Hilditch asked the Minister for an update on the situation at Windsor Park. The Minister stated that the Windsor Park project is currently under construction and work is progressing well. Reconstruction of the pitch, which commenced in May 2014, was completed in August last year. Demolition of the south stand is complete, and construction of the east and south stands has commenced and is, again, progressing well. The Minster was also asked that if extra money is required for Windsor park due to the rebuild of the West Stand can she guarantee that the remainder of the regional stadium money will still be available and will not be touched. The Minister revealed that the money for the rebuild of the West Stand will come from insurance and will not impact on the budget that has been set aside for Windsor Park and the development of the subregional stadia thereafter.
The Minister was also asked about Museum Literature and cultural balance, Angling in South Antrim and whether Libraries NI has presented any plans to relocate Enniskillen library to the old hospital site during Oral Question Time.
During the 15 minute period of Topical Questions the Minister was asked for her assessment of the EastSide Arts Festival, an update on the Cairde Teo group in Armagh and what tangible and actual steps she has taken to enable boxers from Northern Ireland who aspire to compete for Great Britain and Northern Ireland actually to achieve that aspiration.
