Travel to Kampot Province - Bought grilled ducks at Takeo for lunch at Kampot
It was our travel video back in October 2016 visited Kampot province. We traveled along National Highway 3 across Kandal province and stopped at a beautiful flowing water bridge called Kampong Toul, recently changed the name to Prampi Makara bridge. Along the way in Takeo province, we bought grilled ducks, grilled chickens and fried ducks for lunch. Our goal is Kdart village at Kampot province where we brought our lunch out with the seafoods from our friends there, really made a special day for us. We all enjoyed Seafoods, rice with ducks and chickens and have some left to bring home as well. We got back to Kampot downtown and stopped for some snack at Kampot Durian round-about and traveled back to Phnom Penh city. On the way back, we traveled on road 41 Preah Bat Ang Doung road and stopped somewhere at Borset district in kampong speu province for a short while before getting back home.

WHAT TO DO IN KAMPOT
National parks, secluded beaches, travellers in abundance, what else does Kampot have in store? Watch this to find out!
In this week's vlog we travelled to the sleepy Cambodian town of Kampot. Kampot is a sleepy backpacker village located near Cambodia's coastline with a whole host of different eco tourism activities. We decided to visit Bokor National Park. If you manage to make it to the summit, unlike us, you will be met with an archaic abandoned casino surrounded by incredible views ad picturesque waterfalls. See thumbnail for what we could have seen. In the opposite direction lies the even quieter town of Kep, an old Cambodian holiday destination close to the Vietnamese border. This is a perfect place to pitch up a hammock and sit back to watch the waves crash against the shore. There are other attractions to see in Kampot but as we only had a short amount of time here we could not experience them all, we hope you enjoyed our condensed version of what to do in Kampot and have added it to you ever growing travel list!

CAMBODIA YOU NEED TO VISIT KAMPOT // VLOG#30
Where the heck is Kampot Cambodia? That's what we thought when we heard a few people talking about it. We checked out some Vlogs and found a couple that featured Kampot and it looked pretty cool. Then people who had been to Kampot said, You've got to go to Kampot. We started asking other Vloggers about Kampot and they all said, Just go to Kampot already! It's hard to explain why, but Kampot just calls you home and asks you to stay. The lovely people of Kampot are matched by the beauty of it's sunsets over the river. The beach town of Kep is close by and there is plenty of chilling to do right in Kampot itself. Temples, caves, plantations, history, and giant natural salt farms lie in the surrounding area. Now that we know, we'll tell you, Go to Kampot already!

Kampot pepper has a distinct flavour - it has a very fresh aroma with hints of eucalyptus and it lingers in the palate. Its unique flavour is due to a combination of Kampot's rich soil, the climate in this area which is between the mountains and the sea, as well as the experience of several generations of pepper farmers.

Since I was born my mother and father grew pepper and now I do the same thing. In fact we have grown pepper in my family for the last four generations. Whether the price is high or low I still plant pepper because, apart from growing rice, it's all I've ever known.

This idea behind the GI project is to protect the environment in this region and to make sure that Kampot pepper keeps its high quality and is not mixed with lesser quality peppers. We want the consumer to be guaranteed the highest quality and to be sure that what they are getting is authentic Kampot pepper.

I think you can compare it to a good wine. If you drink ordinary wine all the time you will notice a big difference when you try a glass of something really good - the taste is better and it lingers in your mouth for longer. It's the same with Kampot pepper - it's just not comparable with ordinary pepper.

Farmers at Rice Field - Kampong Speu Province - Travel to Phnom Penh
We traveled back to Phnom Penh city from Chreav Waterfall at Kampong Speu province. The nature is amazing, mountains, palm trees, paddy fields. We stopped when we see some women farmers working on their rice field to take some pictures and video. They are a bit shy but then smile and let us take photos. It's beautiful green rice fields and these women work perfectly is taking out the rice plants, kick some soils attached to the roots with their feet, tie them and cut the head of rice off in believing they will grow faster and more crops (rice seeds) coming out. Let's enjoy the video.

The Beauty of A Small Village in Kampot Province
This video started with a drone shot of Protak Krola Lake & Dam in Kampot Province. Some called this Secret Lake. Drone also showed the beautiful of Koun Sat village and green rice fields. People built homes in the middle of rice fields. They grow coconut trees, mango trees, jujube tree, and raise domestic animals like cows, chicken, dogs. I love the lady and her daughter walk her cow eating grass at the green paddy field. People cooked organic foods, fishes, vegetables from around their homes. I left the village to Kampot town for dinner and bought some durians for my wife and kids and traveled back to Phnom Penh city. I wish to visit this beautiful village again.

Salt Production Field in Kampot Province of Cambodia
The Salt fields of Kampot are an amazing sight. There is an over abundance of salt at the moment due to the extended dry season meaning salt production has been extended too.
Farmers must continue to produce salt in their fields, otherwise the quality of the field declines as the salt would dry out and contaminate the field.
Farmers have no choice but to continue flooding the fields with sea water and harvest the salt. This means that salt prices have fallen dramatically for the farmers and there is less money for wages.
KAMPOT SALT
Salt, not pepper. That's what Kampot is really famous for. With the added Iodine, (or Iod in Khmer), hundreds of thousands of Khmer children's lives have been saved.
The salt fields are close to the ocean, and water is let in from the ocean to the fields. The fields are then blocked from the ocean, and the water is allowed to evaporate, leaving salt crystals. This process is repeated many times. Salt production is from around the beginning of December to April. This is when it doesn't rain too much.
The raw salt is then collected and piled up in warehouses in the salt fields. Then, it's delivered to the salt factory, where it is cleaned, Iodine is added, and packaged in 50 Kilogram bags, for shipment throughout the country.
Find salt fields on the road from Kampot to Kep, just outside of town, and also, from downtown Kampot cross any bridge, turn left, and keep going for about 15 minutes. Thar she'll be. Fish Island. The famous Salt Fields of Kampot.
The Salt Exhibition Centre just opened about 5 minutes outside of Kampot, towards Kep. You can tour the museum (one room) and buy a $2 bag of salt, that comes with a presentation. The Centre is located right on a Salt Field.
You can buy 120,000 Kilograms of salt now, for one ounce of Gold.
Or you can buy some Special Kampot Flower Salt at Farmlink for $13.50 a kilo. A bit more expensive than the regular stuff
And don't forget to stop by SALT Bar, right off the Salt Workers' Circle in downtown Kampot.

The Pepper Fields
The Pepper Fields
...from Genocide to Globalization
2010, 23min
A hundred years ago, the region of Kampot in Cambodia was well known across Europe as an agricultural province, producing the best pepper in the world. Due to Cambodia's civil war and the Khmer Rouge genocide, Kampot Pepper was lost to the culinary world for almost 40 years. But today former low-ranking Khmer Rouge soldiers are turning into Cambodian entrepreneurs. Globalization provides greater export opportunities and small-scale pepper farmers are taking advantage, determined to conquer international food markets. Politicians, NGOs and foreign businessmen are supporting Kampot's pepper comeback.
Cambodian film students from M.E.T.A. film school Phnom Penh visited THE PEPPER FIELDS of Kampot. International directors Mark Hammond, Marc Eberle and Nico Mesterharm joined them. Their documentary connects Cambodian history, the re-branding of its Kampot Pepper and the country's step towards a market based economy.
If you are interested in ordering Kampot Pepper check farmlink-cambodia.com.
Custard Apple Season in Cambodia - Fruits at Angkor Chey Kampot
It's Custard Apple season in Cambodia. There are custard apples from Kampong Cham province and Kampot province that my family just bought and had at home in Phnom Penh. Along the national road 31 at Angkor Chey district at Kampot province, we can see many stalls selling custard apples. We stopped at one stall and bought 5kgs which cost 4500 riel per kgs. They said that there are custard apple plantations at the hill in this province that supply all these fruits for them to sell. We need to keep them for 2 days or so from the day we bought so they can ripe enough to eat. It's 2 days now and there are some custard apples are ready to eat. it's sweet and yummy yummy!!
