Lough Erne County Fermanagh; NI Second Biggest Lake System-Irish Fishing - Enniskillen Fermanagh
These views of Lough Erne, county Fermanagh! Yes, they took our breath away as well, just the same way they did with you right now! A place in the town of Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, that you should add right now on your list of places to visit in Ireland.
Lough Erne is the name given to the two connecting lakes in county Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. Lough Erne is considered the second biggest lake in Northern Ireland and Ulster and it is considered the fourth biggest in Ireland as a whole - which pushed us to reach this place, get introduced to its beauty, and see how magnificent it is.
The smaller southern lake is known as the Upper Lough as it is higher up the river, while the bigger northern lake is called the Lower Lough or Broad Lough. Lough Erne is found on the town of Enniskillen which is placed on the short stretch of river between the two lakes.
For us, this is considered the perfect place for nature due to the idea behind Lough Erne being the place where the two lakes meet, and also for being a place where different islands along with many coves and inlets are found; just as you can see through the video, it is a perfect description for nature.
Enniskillen town, where the Lough Erne is located, is a civil parish in county Fermanagh and it is located exactly in the center of the county where the upper and lower parts of Lough Erne lake are found. Everything has a story behind and the name of this town is believed to carry a story for it as well; it is believed that the name originally came from Cethlenn who was wounded in battle by an arrow and attempted to swim across the River Erne but never made it, and thus the place was named after her, since it comes from the Irish name Inis Ceithleann.
Visiting this place, Lough Erne, will give you the chance to see some of the other landmarks which are found in the town of Enniskillen, such as the Enniskillen Castle which is considered the oldest building in the place. It is not just about the castle, but Enniskillen is the place where the British Army regiments were found. This is considered a place with rich history and there are lots of hidden stories and gems that this name still carries.
To complete your trip in Enniskillen, there are some other suggestions which we will provide you with to visit as much historical and natural places as possible. In addition to the castle, you could also visit the Inniskillings Museum, the Castle Coole, the Monea Castle, the Coles Monument, the Portora Castle, the Tully Castle, the Florence Court, as well as other things simpler than those which you could also come across.
If you are staying at Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland, during your visit but you are heading to Lough Erne in Enniskillen town to check this magical place in county Fermanagh, you could actually make a day trip there because it does not take so long; there are different routes and the longest of them will get you there in about two hours and twenty minutes in total, which is considered reasonable for a day trip and enjoying a couple of things to see in Enniskillen.
For those who are not willing to consider this a day trip, they could then search for the resorts or hotels which they could book at in order to enjoy their stay. One of the places which we suggest is the Lough Erne resort, which is sometimes referred to as Enniskillen Hotel, where there are different outdoor activities that one could get the chance to be part of in order to enjoy the fresh air of this place, such as going to the Lough Navar Forest, visiting the Crom Estate, going to Castle Archdale, or else visiting the Cuilcagh Mountain - these come in addition to the ones we have already mentioned above.
Connolly Cove is the place where we bring different recommendations and suggestions for those who enjoy visiting several places in the countries they are going to visit; not just the famous landmarks, but those beautiful ones which might not be gaining the same amount of tourists and visitors. This channel is mainly focused on Ireland and Northern Ireland, but we have been working hard to expand and reach different other countries around the world.
There are lots of things to be seen and visited in Northern Ireland ( there are also a lot of attractions that one could visit in Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland ( you could enjoy the hop-on hop-off tour if you are visiting Dublin, Ireland ( and you could also enjoy seeing the location for filming The Game of Thrones which also happens to be in Ireland (
Tell us more about your journey to the Lough Erne, County Fermanagh, the town of Enniskillen, and share with us the places you have visited, the activities you have done there, and the amount of days you stayed there; tell us more about your trip to see this place in Ireland.

Victorian Postbox Church Street Enniskillen
We are on Enniskillen's main shopping street, sectionally and confusingly known by 3 names depending where you are standing- Darling street going on to Church street and then moving up on to High street. We are in the 'Hollow' section where the road/land dips into a hollow and here beside the church wall is a Victorian Postbox. I thought it was worth filming as a bit of postal history still going strong.
Manor House Hotel Enniskillen Co Fermanagh
Tanya and I are down in scenic Co Fermanagh for a few days and we are staying in the very grand, yet very welcoming, Manor House Hotel on the shores of Lough Erne, located just outside Enniskillen. I think that the outside of the hotel is worth a video. We will definitely be back! The hotel was used as an officer's mess during the 2nd WW by the american forces based in the area. these guys were involved in much of the seaplane/Catolina oversight which was patrolling the atlantic. They were searching for German submarines atttacking the convoys. They also located the Bismark battleship which led to her being sunk.
NORTHERN IRELAND: ENNISKILLEN: BOMB ATTACK SCARES OFF TOURISTS
English/Nat
One week ago on Sunday - July 14 - the picturesque town of Enniskillen in Northern Ireland was rocked by a massive bomb.
The blast destroyed the front of one of the town's most beautiful hotels and damaged the tourist industry.
It is thought the terrorist attack was launched on this town because it would scare off the foreign visitors who normally flock to there in the summer.
There are few places in the world as tranquil and lush as Enniskillen, which sprouts up between two large lakes with the river Erne running round it.
There's plenty to see and do in the County Fermanagh town.
It boasts historical sights such as the fifteenth century Enniskillen castle which was formerly home to Gaelic chieftains.
It's possibly most famous for its water sports - everything from rowing boats to vast cruisers can be rented for an idyllic holiday.
The tourist centre is run by Charlotte Wilson, who unsurprisingly plays down the impact of the bomb on scaring off the tourist trade.
But she admits it has caused a dip in the numbers passing through her office.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
Usually at this time of the year we would have about 600 visitors through the doors of our tourist information centre every day. In the last week or so the figures have dropped slightly, we may have for example instead of 600 around 450, 500.
SUPER CAPTION: Charlotte Wilson, Manager, Tourist Information Centre
No-one has yet claimed responsibility for the bomb at the Killyhevlin Hotel which injured 17 people. l
The Irish Republican Army have denied they were behind it.
What is certain is that it has sent a chill up the spine of locals who once again have to contend with the horror of violence erupting on their doorstep.
They dread the effect on business and the prospect of jobs being lost.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
I can just see loads of people out of work for a start, severe loss of business, severe loss of money for the community, severe loss of jobs even in spin off areas - suppliers will obviously be put down as well and it's just real bad - completely bad.
SUPER CAPTION: James Ownes, Waiter
One of the town's best known pubs is William Blake's, now run by his son Donal.
It is a favourite for a rich pint of Guinness beer, which traditionally has a shamrock traced out in its thick foam.
It too has felt the effect of the bombing.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
It has a depressing effect on people. Those coming in across the border and from England and America have stopped coming - not completely but it's certainly has closed down dramatically sales and slowed down the business generally and there's certainly a depression around the town you know.
SUPER CAPTION: Donal Blake, Owner, William Blake's Pub
It seems strange to those tourists currently visiting the town that such an act of violence could be perpetrated in this seemingly tranquil, friendly community.
A couple of Australians who decided to come when all was peaceful in Northern Ireland have seen sights they did not expect when they left home.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
Police officers in bullet proof vests is something you don't normally see in Adelaide. Any sort of riot like that would be quashed immediately, so it was a bit scary. I wanted to take pictures of course. You jump out of the car, you take a picture, jump into the car and drive off quickly so it was frightening.
SUPER CAPTION: David Hill, Australian Tourist
SOUNDBITE: (English)
Today it seems quite peaceful and everything. I don't think we've anything to worry about, hopefully. They say lightening doesn't strike in the same place twice.
SUPER CAPTION: Trudy Hill, Australian Tourist

Belleek Pottery Ltd is a porcelain company that began trading in 1884 as the Belleek Pottery Works Company Ltd in Belleek, County Fermanagh.
Today the factory employs around 50 skilled workers, many who have been there for three decades and more!
The pottery museum contains pieces dating back to when the pottery was started in 1857. Belleck lays claim to be the oldest working pottery on the whole island of Ireland.
History
Pottery in Belleek began around 1849, after John Caldwell Bloomfield inherited his father's estate. Seeking to provide employment for his tenants, who had been affected by the Irish potato famine and, being an amateur mineralogist, ordered a geological survey of his land. He found that the local area was rich in minerals particularly Feldspar. Fieldspar was a vital ingredient for glassmaking and hard durable ceramics.
Bloomfield, realizing the potential, went into partnership with London architect Robert Williams Armstrong and Dublin merchant David McBirney. To help things along Bloomfield managed to get a railway line built to Belleek so that coal could be delivered with which to fire kilns.
Building started on the pottery in 1858. Initially starting with domestic products. It wasn't until 1863 that small amounts of the Parian porcelain for which Belleek is famous for was successfully produced. By 1865, the prestige of the company had increased enough that its market included Australia, Canada, England, Ireland, and the United States, and customers included the Prince of Wales, Queen Victoria and the nobility.
Eugene Sheerin (Artist & Poet) worked as an artist at Belleek pottery late 19th century. One of his paintings Innocence (1879) of a young mother and child executed on a Belleek plate is on display at the Royal Victoria & Albert museum London.
