Folsom Prison Museum; Represa, California
Also known as the Big House Prison Museum, this museum is located just inside the prison yard at Folsom State Prison. It carries historical artifacts from Folsom as well as other state prisons.
Folsom State Prison was one of the first maximum security state prisons in the nation. It was built in the decades following the 1848 California Gold Rush to relieve overcrowding at San Quentin State Prison north of San Francisco.
Today, Folsom State Prison primarily houses medium security inmates and shares the general area with the New Folsom State Prison, re-named California State Prison Sacramento County.

The Historic City of Folsom, Ca
presented by sacrep.com
Folsom’s diverse attractions guarantee there’s something for everyone, whether you’re looking for a weekend with the kids, a romantic getaway or quality time in the great outdoors.
The storefronts of historic Sutter Street reflect their heritage and are fascinating representatives of historic architecture. It’s easy to imagine the Pony Express galloping down the street while Gold Rush stagecoaches drop off miners in search of their fortune. Visitors can wander through unique shops, visit art galleries and live theater and enjoy a variety of dining choices from simple sandwiches to international cuisine.
A trip to Sutter Street wouldn't be complete without stopped at the Folsom History Museum and the original Wells Fargo Assay building. The stately granite monument houses many interesting artifacts of Folsom's past. Also, don't forget to peek in the window at Snooks Candies to see if the candy maker is busy at work.
