Godafoss is one of the largest and most popular waterfalls in Iceland. It is, of course, a must-see location in northern Iceland. In this video, I'll share my thoughts on tripods and ball heads and what I've experienced. I'm also sharing some tips on how to secure your tripod and as always a guide to the epic location, where I show where you can go to do your landscape photography at Godafoss.

Godafoss translates to ‘Waterfall of the Gods’. It got its name during early Christian times in Iceland when Norse deities were thrown into the falls in an effort to establish Christianity as the sole religion of the country. These days it is a tourist hot spot and one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland. There are several lines to run on Godafoss due to its horseshoe shape and we ran it multiple times. It varies in height from 10 - 14 meters tall and no matter what time of the day you run it you will have a huge crowd of tourists cheering you on.

GoPro: Iceland travel: Godafoss waterfall
Support our channel :
Godafoss (Goðafoss) was one of the more famous waterfalls we encountered while driving the Ring Road through the Mývatn District of Iceland's Northeast Region. It’s also part of Golden circle and is included in all Iceland tours. It’s a wide 12m tall waterfall on the Skjálfandafljót River, a mini-Niagara Falls surrounded for miles by nothing. Plus the story behind it is a summary of Iceland's religious history and a great myth.
This curling horseshoe-shaped waterfall had a fairly key role in Icelandic history. Apparently back in the year 1000, the lawspeaker at the time Þorgeirr Ljósvetningagoði had the unenviable task of choosing the official religion of Iceland. Under the pressure of Christianity's convert or die methods, Þorgeirr chucked his icons of Norse deities into the falls (which, by the way, is translated to mean waterfall of the gods) but secretly maintained allegiance to the Norse deities.

Part 4/7 of our Icelandic holiday.
After starting out pretty early, we went straight for Dettifoss with no luck due to the deep snow. We also helped with the rescue of a beached vehicle that got stuck in the snow at Hverir before passing the extinct volcano of Hverfjall on our way to Godafoss, another majestic waterfall.

Waterfall of the Gods | Landscape Photography in Iceland | Godafoss
In episode 5 of my video series about landscape photography in Iceland we are exploring the Northern region around Myvatn. We start the day by visiting a geothermal power plant. We then explore the Viti Crater, also known as Lake Myvatn. We end our day on a high note at the impressive Godafoss waterfalls, where I face the elements with the Fuji X-T2 and protecting my filters the best I can. Oh and I almost lose my GoPro too!

Godafoss stunning awesome and beautifull waterfall in Iceland
The Goðafoss (Icelandic: waterfall of the gods or waterfall of the goði) is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland. It is located in the Bárðardalur district of North-Central Iceland at the beginning of the Sprengisandur highland road. The water of the river Skjálfandafljót falls from a height of 12 meters over a width of 30 meters.
In the year 999 or 1000 the Lawspeaker Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði made Christianity the official religion of Iceland. After his conversion it is said that upon returning from the Alþingi, Þorgeir threw his statues of the Norse gods into the waterfall. Þorgeir's story is preserved in Ari Þorgilsson's Íslendingabók.
A window in the Cathedral of Akureyri (Akureyrarkirkja) illustrates this story.
MS Goðafoss, an Icelandic ship named after the waterfall, was carrying both freight and passengers. It was sunk by a German U-Boat in World War II, resulting in great loss of lives.
Wodospad Godafoss (isl.
