CAMPING AT GOLD BLUFFS BEACH
GOLD BLUFFS BEACH | CAMPING WITH A BABY | CALIFORNIA'S REDWOOD COAST
We officially have gone camping with a baby....alright, GLAMPING! It was a blast! We practically had the beach to ourselves and the campsites were great (they even had restrooms and showers).
The campground is on a 10-mile golden beach located in northwestern California. It is part of Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. I've never been camping on a beach before and think it is my favorite way to glamp now.
Also, I was impressed with Jared and our friends who jumped in the ocean...it was freezing! But so beautiful!!

Gold Bluffs Beach Campground in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park near Orick California offers guests one of the most unique front-country (meaning you can drive to the sites) camping locations in the world. Accessible after a 6 mile dusty and often bumpy packed gravel road this scenic campground provides guests with primitive tent and RV camping sites adjacent to the beach.
Operated by California State Parks the popular campground has 26 campsites on a single direction loop road a couple hundred yards from the pounding surf. Camp among sand dunes and beach vegetation with towering Redwoods in the nearby hills. No hookups are available and off limits to trailers (they are often spotted out here anyways) and larger RVs (bad idea to even try it) this campground is best suited to tent camping and truck/ van campers.
Sites have excellent separation that combines with a sea breeze and waves to create an over-all peaceful environment. Picnic tables, fire rings and food storage lockers are available (yes bears do venture out to the beach too!). A single restroom facility with showers and running water is available. Water spigots are dispersed throughout the grounds. No food or supplies available come prepared.
This campground is first come first served all year long. Multiple trails are accessible from here along with mountain biking along the gravel road (there are some loops you can string together with single track too). Roosevelt Elk are often spotted in the area.
Like the nearby Elk Prairie Campground Gold Bluffs Beach Campground is one of those bucket list you can't go wrong destinations.

Gold Bluffs Beach | California's Redwood Coast | DJI MAVIC PRO DRONE beautiful beach footage......I'm obsessed with our drone! It's linked below! The ocean is one of my favorite places to feel peace and rejuvenation. It is so healing. There is something about the calm and rhythmic sound of the waves and energy that comes from getting some salt water air. Jared did an incredible job capturing this beautiful night. This is one of our new favorite beaches (we practically had it all to ourselves!)

Redwood N.P. - Drive to Gold Bluffs Beach Campground (Davison Rd)
Start Google Map Location = 8XC5+GW Berry Glenn, California
Campground Location = 9WMJ+C5 Orick, California
The campground lies in the dunes along a beautiful 10-mile stretch of golden beach in northwestern California. As part of Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, it is located six miles off Hwy 101 at the end of unpaved, Davison Rd. So, you may find yourselves just about the only people around, and for those who want to experience the joys of nature, you've come to the right place.
Redwood National Park: Fern Canyon
Fern Canyon, the unforgettable nature wonder where Steven Spielberg chose as a location for Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World.
This level trail of about one mile follows Home Creek as it courses through the forest. This modest stream has over the eons carved a deep (50 to 80 feet) canyon through the sedimentary soils. The vertical walls sprout an amazing variety of ferns (five different kinds) and other moisture-loving plants and mosses. Depending on the time of year, there is a constant drip-drip of water trickling down the canyon walls.
During summer months, foot bridges are installed over the creek to make this trail easier (and dryer), but it is generally passable year-round if one is nimble and can tolerate getting damp.
One can hike into the canyon and back, or continue on to a trail/stairway that climbs out of the canyon. At the top, turn left to return along the canyon rim, with fine views into the canyon and other interesting sights. A verdant prairie is the site of a former mining camp from the days when Gold Bluffs Beach was, in fact, mined for gold dust (a venture that was never very profitable).
Alternatively, Fern Canyon can be reached by a moderate five-mile hike on the James Irvine Trail, beginning at the Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park visitor center.

Driving The Redwood Forest Highway In California
The Redwood Forest Highway drive is truly spectacular. You can't really describe the forest and a Redwood Tree, it must be experienced. However, I will try in this video. Giant majestic trees that are a few thousand years old. It's one of the most fun and scenic drives I've ever been on with plenty of pull off's to stop and take pictures.
The route includes Hwy 101 & Hwy 199. Along the way we visited Fern Canyon and it was awesome as well. Along the way, we also drove through a Redwood Tree.
Gold Bluffs Beach Campground, long beach walk and Fern Canyon (with Dinosaurs)
One of our longer hikes on the Redwoods trip but great fun! Neat to see what the kids are thinking while hiking and climbing. The Dinosaurs were VERY scary and the Elk was closer than it appears.
