UNITED STATES Last Handmade Fortune Cookie Factory | San Francisco, CA
On this day (December 2018), I experienced San Francisco last handmade fortune cookie factory recognized around the world called the Golden Gate Fortune Cookies Factory. The factory is open every day of the week (Mondays-Fridays) from 9am and close at 6:30pm. On Saturdays and Sundays, they open from 9am-7pm. They are located at 56 Ross Alley and can be very busy at times, however, this is the last of its kind, and is a Chinatown must. The factory opened its doors on August 5, 1962, and remains one of the only places you can still find handmade fortune cookies in the country. Sad to say, the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory maybe its last, due to high property cost in rent.
• Small bags have 5 cookies for $1.50. Regular bags have 35 cookies and cost $5.25.
• Flavors they sell are the classic almond flavor as well as chocolate, strawberry and green tea.
• They also have special fortune cookies that are chocolate covered with sprinkles.
• They sell a giant fortune cookie and you can customize the fortune costing $6.50 each.
• They also have coin-shaped cookie discs, like the samples they give out costing $4.75 a bag.
• They call “x-rated” fortune cookies. But really the fortunes inside are just in poor taste. But the cookie tastes great

Chinatown in San Francisco, CA - and Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory
From our vacation to San Francisco in August 2010. Chinatown is a magical place with lots of delicious food to try, shops with exotic wares, and a rich history and culture to explore.
Venture into Ross Alley and step back in time - you'll find the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory. Pay a dollar or two and you can have your picture taken next to the hard working ladies who are making fortune cookies right in front of your eyes. And pick up a bag or two of fresh crunchy cookies to enjoy at the hotel.
Also check out the many great bakeries and restaurants where you can find steamed buns, dim sum, and tasty dessert treats such as egg custard tarts.

Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory
Located at: 56 Ross Aly, San Francisco, CA, this small shop has been a San Francisco icon since 1962. Usually about three women are responsible for hand folding over 1000 fortune cookies a day. It's a little difficult to find but you can honestly follow the smell of fresh fortune cookie.
When you arrive it's $0.50 to take a picture and $1 for a bag of ten cookies. If you're a big spender think about a bag of 40 cookies for $5.
Live the dream.

| Watch the little ladies in action! Sheer skill, I tells ya. I actually HATE fortune cookies, but these ones were a thousand times better than the nasty (and too hard/too crunchy) ones you get at Chinese buffets.
