Ancient Olympia Archeological Museum, Greece
There are 12 halls of rich collections going back 3500 years.
Archaeological Museum of Olympia - Greece HD Travel Channel
After visiting the ancient site, we make a tour of the Archaeological Museum of Olympia. Already build in 1882 to exhibit finds from the surrounding archaeological sites, it was the first museum outside Athens. In 1975 one set up a new building, renovated in 2003 with high-quality materials. It is one of the most important museums in Greece. The exhibition halls are arranged chronologically in a clockwise direction.
We start our tour with the models of the Pelopion, the first sanctuary. Followed up to 4000 years old figures and weapons, usually made of bronze.
Architectural relics, like the pediment of the Treasure House of Megara, or the east and west pediment of the Temple of Zeus, witness the earlier artful design of the buildings.
We see models and an illustration of a reconstruction of the Statue of Zeus that brings the past back to life. Once the statue had hair and robes covered with gold and a skin made of ivory.
The statues of Nike of Paionios and Hermes of Praxiteles witness the perfection of Greek sculpture.
A highlight in the Roman hall is the bull from the Nymphaeum of Herodes Atticus, a consul, and patron of the arts.

Marble creations in Greece
Myrό Antiques House and Myrό Gallery announce today that they will undertake a series of projects to attract and renew the interest for the contemporary greek sculpturing, with a focus in bronze and marble sculptures, both within Greece and abroad. The projects fall into a broader initiative including the creation of statues, reliefs, and a variety of sculptures, with several artists working live in the project, in the facilities of Antiques House.
The kick off of the first stage of the initiative took place on May the 10th 2013, when the first team of sculptors started working on several volumes. Some of these artists are associates of Myrό Gallery, while others have answered to the first call for entries of Antiques House published at the end of March 2013. More artists will add up to the team in the next few weeks. Through a simple process of selection in 3 steps, which will include an open invitation for marble and bronze working sculptors, the review of their proposals for works by Stavros Muronidis and his associates, a final agreement on certain conditions, specifications and a time schedule to be met, the sculptors will start working on the works that they proposed and are accepted. Antiques House will offer the marbles and will provide with accommodation in any case needed. Any sculptor interested can apply with his proposals for inclusion in the projects, answering to a forthcoming call for entries, or directly, by contacting Mr. Stavros Muronidis at (0030)6971890212.
The first team of sculptors consists of Michael Andronikidis, Thanos Karonis, Paraskevas Magiras, Cyprian Hopirtean, Giorgos Ilipopoulos, Ioannis Bizas, Odysseas Tosounidis.
Veria Archaeological Museum in Macedonia, Greece
Veria Archaeological Museum
The museum includes collections of Hellenistic and Roman sculpture (funerary reliefs, funerary and honorary altars, portraits, table supports, statues) from the city of Veroia and other sites of the district, Hellenistic pottery and figurines from the cemeteries of Veroia, Hellenistic and Roman architectural parts (columns, bases, capitals etc.) exhibited in the courtyard, inscriptions from Veroia and the adjacent areas.
The most important exhibits of the museum are:
Red-figure bell crater (Kertsch style). The front view bears a representation of the iconographic cycle of Aphrodite and Dionysos. Dated to the middle of the 4th century BC.
Bronze hydria-calpis used as a funerary urn in a cist-grave at Veroia. Dated to 370-360 BC.
Medusa head. Large head of the mythical Medusa, which was attached to the north-east gate of the fortification walls of Veroia. It was an apotropaic symbol, used to discourage and frighten the city attackers. Dated to the first half of the 2nd century BC.
Funerary stele of Paterinos. Tall, palmette relief stele depicting the dead Paterinos, son of Antigonos, standing in the middle of the panel. It is a good specimen of the local sculpture workshop, dated to the end of the 2nd century BC.
Gold jewellery from a female burial. Pair of gold earrings, a gold ring and a necklace made of gold and cornelian rings. Dated to the 2nd century BC.
Law concerning the Gymnasium. A remarkable inscription recording the rules of the Gymnasium of Veroia. The preserved text refers to the obligations of the youths practicing in the Gymnasium. Dated to the first half of the 2nd century BC.
Bust of Olganos from Kopanos, near Naoussa. Protome of the river-god Olganos, son of the mythical Veretos and brother of Mieza and Veroia. This elegant statue is dated to the second half of the 2nd century AD.
Marble table support (trapezophoron). It bears the relief representation of Zeus, transformed into an eagle, abducting Ganymedes. Dated to the 2nd century AD.

A body in movement contains life, the testimony lies in seeing the traces of its movements, its imprints.
There is no being that doesn't leave its marks, and these are the testimony of his existence in this world. There is an infinite number of traditions, philosophies, religions, customs that try to divide the thinking of people on this earth. Through this project, I hope to testify to the equality of all those who tread on the sheets, that represent the Earth, the world on which they walk.
Art for Peace

Sites include the famous theatre, the Pythian Oracle (aka Sybil) in the Temple of Apollo, the Treasury of Athens, the gymnasium, the tholos at the sanctuary of Athena Pronaia. Also are some beautiful views, fine statues in the archaeological museum, and three cats.
All of these sites - and the current town of Delphi - are within easy walking distance of each other. Unfortunately, rockfall prevented us from going above the theatre to see the stadium.
