VISITING HERODIUM - Ruins of King Herod's Palace in Israel
Herodium is the ancient ruins and site of the palace of King Herod. It's about 20 minutes from Jerusalem in the West Bank. I spent a fascinating day exploring the site. The fortress was created on top of a mountain, but it's almost ompletely hidden from anyone below. In addition to the mountaintop palace complex, there's a Roman bath complex at the base.

Herodion is the only site that is named after King Herod the Great. It was known by the Crusaders as the Mountain of Franks. Arab locals call it Jabal al-Fourdis (Mountain of Paradise). The Modern Hebrew name, Herodion , is actually a transliteration of the Greek spelling. However, modern Israeli archaeologists have confirmed that the site’s original Hebrew name was Herodis , just as this name is inscribed in one of the Bar Kokhba letters recovered from the Muraba’at Caves in the Judaean desert. Some speculate that the Arabic name, Fourdis, may be a corruption of the Hebrew name.

My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this calling in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

Israel 2018 VLOG #3 Bethlehem & The Road to Jericho
Leaving Jerusalem via the Israel Museum, which held Shrine of the book & Dead Sea Scrolls, we then crossed into the West Bank and visited Herodion- where King Herod once lived.
Going into Bethlehem we stopped off at the Square and Church where its alleged that Jesus was born. We stayed over night in Bethlehem and visited the West Bank wall and the Christian Bookshop before setting off on the road to Jericho.
The Judean Desert and the Jordan Valley had amazing views before stopping off at Jericho where part of the walls are still standing. We finished the day at the hot springs and Sachne.

HERODIUM ISRAEL,Ἡρώδειον هيروديون,Herodion
In 40 BCE, after the Parthian conquest of Syria, Herod fled to Masada. On the way, at the location of Herodion, Herod clashed with the Parthians and emerged victorious. According to the Roman Jewish historian Josephus, he built a town on that spot in commemoration of his victory, and enhanced it with wonderful palaces... and he called it Herodion after himself (The Wars of the Jews I, Chapter 13).[5]
Josephus describes Herodium as follows: This fortress, which is some sixty stadia[6] distant from Jerusalem, is naturally strong and very suitable for such a structure, for reasonably nearby is a hill, raised to a (greater) height by the hand of man and rounded off in the shape of a breast. At intervals it has round towers, and it has a steep ascent formed of two hundred steps of hewn stone. Within it are costly royal apartments made for security and for ornament at the same time. At the base of the hill there are pleasure grounds built in such a way as to be worth seeing, among other things because of the way in which water, which is lacking in that place, is brought in from a distance and at great expense. The surrounding plain was built up as a city second to none, with the hill serving as an acropolis for the other dwellings. (The Wars of the Jews I, 21, 10; Antiquities of the Jews XIV, chapter 13.9).
Herodium was conquered and destroyed by the Romans in 71 CE. At the beginning of the Bar Kokhba revolt sixty years later, Simon bar Kokhba declared Herodium as his secondary headquarters. Archaeological evidence for the revolt was found all over the site, from the outside buildings to the water system under the mountain. Inside the water system, supporting walls built by the rebels were discovered, and another system of caves was found. Inside one of the caves, burned wood was found which was dated to the time of the revolt.
In Wars of the Jews, 1, 21, 10, Josephus mentions two different fortresses built by King Herod and given the same name, Herodium. Here is Thackeray's rendition of the passage in Greek, followed by his English translation, including two notes
The Judean Desert is blooming - leaving the Herodion and returning to Jerusalem

King Herod's Harbor, Caesarea National park. גן לאומי קיסריה
King Herod's Harbor, Caesarea National Park.
King Herod the great, named so because he was also a great builder who built many colossal projects in the land of Israel.
The 2nd temple in Jerusalem, the fortress at Masada, the port city at Caesarea and the palace fortress town at Herodian where he was finally buried are some of his grand achievements.
In 15 B.C. the harbor was completed and named Caesarea in honor of the Roman emperor Caesar Augustus.
A 10 km long Aqueduct was built to bring fresh water to the city.
A hippodrome was built to have 'Ben Hur' style horse and chariot racing and could hold 20,000 spectators. The large Roman amphitheater was renovated and is still in use today.
It is from Caesarea that Pontius Pilate governed the land during the time of Jesus.
In 640 A.D the city fell to the invading Arab armies and was left in neglect. In 1265 A.D the Mamluks captured the city from the Crusaders and destroyed it to the ground.
