Holyland Model of Jerusalem
The Holyland Model of Jerusalem is a 1:50 scale-model of the city of Jerusalem in the late Second Temple Period. The model was moved from its original location at the Holyland Hotel in Bayit VeGan, Jerusalem, to a new site at the Israel Museum in June 2006
Model of Ancient Jerusalem: outdoors at the Israel Museum
An extensive model of Jerusalem in the time of the Second Temple is outdoors at the Israel Museum in western Jerusalem. It recreates Jerusalem in 66 CE before its destruction by the Romans in 70 CE. The reconstruction relied on ancient texts and the Mishnah, the Talmud, and the Bible (Old and New Testament). The ancient city was at its largest size, more than twice the size of the current Old City of Jerusalem. In the model you will see The Second Temple, Robinson’s Arch, Wilson’s Arch, the Southern Steps of the Temple, the Eastern Gate , the Nikanor Gate and the Golden Gate, the Antonia Fortress, Herod’s Palace, the top of Mount Zion with the building that houses the Room of the Last Supper (the Upper Room) and the Tomb of King David on the floor below, the locations of Golgotha and the Garden Tomb, the Pool of Bethesda, the Sheep Gate, the Pool of Siloam, and modest and very large homes.

My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this calling in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

Upper Room Overview Tour, Last Supper, Pentecost, Jerusalem, Israel, Mt. Zion, Holy Land
See an overview of the Upper Room and all that happened before Christ's suffering and crucifixion!
Location
1. The Upper Room is in a second-story building in Jerusalem that commemorates where Jesus shared the Passover (Last Supper) with His disciples.
2. It is located directly above the Tomb of David and near the Dormition Abbey on Mount Zion.
3. It is also called the Cenacle Room, which means “dining room” in Latin.
4. On the first floor of the building is King David’s Tomb. It functions as a synagogue so a head covering for men must be worn. It is divided into three sections: (1) a small synagogue room (2) a men’s viewing area of David’s tomb, and (3) a women’s viewing area of the tomb.
5. The location of David's Tomb is likely just a memorial place as Scripture says he was buried in the City of David (1Kings 2:10).
Historical Background
1. The Upper Room is believed to be the location of the first Christian church.
2. Archaeological research reveals the Upper Room is built on top of a church-synagogue built by the first-century Jewish-Christian community of Jerusalem.
3. The location of the Upper Room has been the traditional site of the Last Supper since the fourth century AD.
4. In the 5th century, the church was referred to as Zion, Mother of all the Churches.”
5. The Upper Room that pilgrims visit today was built by the Crusaders in the 12th century as part of the Church of St. Mary of Zion. The Gothic-era columns seen today were from this time era.
6. The buildings around the Upper Room are remains of a Franciscan medieval friary from around 1335.
7. The Upper Room was transformed into a mosque by the Ottomans in 1524, and a prayer niche is embedded on the south wall, directed towards the Islam cities of Mecca and Medina.
8. The Upper Room building is currently managed by the State of Israel Ministry of the Interior.
9. It’s very likely that the Upper Room was used for more than the Passover meal. It could also have been where Christ appeared to His disciples after His resurrection, where Matthias was appointed the apostle to replace Judas, and where the disciples stayed while waiting for Pentecost. Some believe it’s also where Pentecost happened or began.
10. It seems logical that all these events shared the same Upper Room as the man who allowed Christ to use his large room for the Passover meal was probably a follower of Christ who continued to allow the disciples to use it.

Jerusalem Model AD 66

Second Temple Model in Jerusalem - Architect by Alec Gerrard
The Model of Second Temple Jerusalem, one of the capital’s best-loved visitor sites, first opened in 1966 on the grounds of a Jerusalem hotel. It was built at the behest of the hotel’s owner, Hans Kroch, in memory of his son Jacob who fell in Israel's War of Independence. But when construction activities around the hotel necessitated the model’s move, the Israel Museum welcomed it, and it was reopened in 2006.
Holyland Trip Vlog - Day 8 - JERUSALEM, BETHLEHEM (EP 08)
EP.08: We continued our journey by visiting some places in the old city such as Pool of Bethesda, St.Anne's Church, Via Dolorosa and Church of the Holy Sepulchre, The Western Wall, Jericho and Bethlehem before ended our night with having dinner in Indonesian restaurant.
- Pool of Bethesda
It's been identified as the scene of one of Jesus’ miracles. This was the healing of the paralysed man who had waited for 38 years for someone to help him into the pool “when the water is stirred” an event believed to have curative powers. (John 5:2-18)
- The Church of St Anne
The best-preserved Crusader church in Jerusalem. It marks the traditional site of the home of Jesus’ maternal grandparents, Anne and Joachim, and the birthplace of the Virgin Mary.
- Via Dolorosa (Way of Sorrows)
There are 14 Stations of the Cross as they identify with the suffering of Jesus on his way to crucifixion. This is also the name of the principal street they follow, a narrow marketplace abustle with traders and shoppers, most likely similar to the scene on the first Good Friday. Today’s Via Dolorosa originated in pious tradition rather than in certain fact, but it is hallowed by the footsteps of the faithful over centuries.
- The Western Wall
the place where Jews down the ages have expressed their grief over the destruction of the Temple, their anguish giving the wall another name — the Wailing Wall. But the wall is also a place for celebrations, especially of Bar and Bat Mitzvahs (coming-of-age ceremonies for Jewish sons and daughters).
- Mount of Temptation
Traditionally regarded as the mountain on which Jesus Christ was tempted by the devil during his 40-day fast.
- Jericho
It’s reputed to be the oldest town on earth, with stories to match. The Israelites supposedly brought down its walls with a great shout and trumpet blasts. Here Jesus healed Bartimaeus, the blind beggar, and dined with Zacchaeus, the rich tax collector. And both Cleopatra and Herod the Great coveted this lush oasis.
- The Dead Sea
It is set in the lowest dry land on earth, so it has no outlet. It is so loaded with minerals that no fish can live in it. It is so dense that bathers can lie back on its surface and read a newspaper. It is located about 25km east of Jerusalem, along the border between Israel and Jordan. About half of it is actually in Jordanian territory.
- Bethlehem
The West Bank city of Bethlehem, about 9km south of Jerusalem, is celebrated by Christians as the birthplace of Jesus Christ.
- Church of the Nativity
Entering the church that marks the site of Jesus Christ’s birthplace means having to stoop low. The only doorway in the fortress-like front wall is just 1.2 metres high.
- The Shepherds Field
Caves where shepherds “kept watch over their flock” still abound in the area east of Bethlehem. Here, the Gospel of Luke tells us, an angel announced the birth of Jesus.

Holy Land Grab: The Battle for Jerusalem | Rewind
Jerusalem has been fought over, dreamt about and worshipped in for hundreds of years.
It is a holy city to all three major Abrahamic religions. Jews, Muslims and Christians have coexisted within its walls for centuries, but it is only the Jews who lay claim to it as their exclusive capital.
This position has been given added force since President Donald Trump came into power in the United States, and in the face of international law recognised Jerusalem as Israel's capital as well as announcing the relocation of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
In recent decades, Israeli settlements, illegal under international law, have been springing up in occupied East Jerusalem, which was previously recognised as Palestinian.
It is a process that has been developing for many decades, but in 2009, Al Jazeera's Jacky Rowland went to the front line of what can only be described as a battle for the right to live in a city that is the beating heart of the holy land.
We are holding on by our fingernails to the two-state solution. Today it is still barely possible to edge out a political boundary in Jerusalem which will be both acceptable to the parties and viable after the agreement is reached. Danny Seidemann, a lawyer with the non-profit Ir Amim, told Al Jazeera. We are very close to losing that. If current trends continue for another six months, a year or two years, this all will be lost.
Ten years on, Rewind speaks to Al Jazeera's Awad Joumaa who recently made a film about what it is like to live in Jerusalem.
Sadly, as many Palestinians and even Israelis probably will tell you, the situation in the city of Jerusalem has only gotten worse. The wall that started at that time is now almost complete. Jerusalem is separated from its nearby West Bank, a strategic depth hinterland, so to speak. There's more and more encroachment on the Old City in Jerusalem and as one of the characters [in my film] would say it's almost game over for Jerusalem, Joumaa says.
Many Palestinians who I met ... say our lives have become almost impossible in Jerusalem. You will find more and more Jerusalemites are leaving the city to live in the suburbs of Jerusalem. And you'll find less and less Palestinians in the city, which is many of the Israeli settler organisations' dream.
Joumaa says that these settler organisations are not something on the fringes of Israeli politics. It is the most powerful political movement in Israel. And not only that, they have powerful friends in the US. So sadly, in many ways the Palestinians are in a tight spot.
He says Trump's move to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital has left many Palestinians and Arab countries demoralised.
Many Arab countries believe that the United States is the friend of the Arab world, but the people you meet in Jerusalem will tell you otherwise, says Joumaa. They don't see any hope.
