Here is footage from the Hoover Tower in Palo Alto at Stanford University. Unfortunately video cameras are not allowed at the top which explains the still photos but enjoy the video shots along the ground and many photos from the top. Info about this tower is found below.
Hoover Tower is a 285 feet (87 m) structure on the campus of Stanford University in Stanford, California. The tower houses the Hoover Institution Library and Archives, an archive collection founded by Herbert Hoover before he became President of the United States. Hoover had amassed a large collection of materials related to early 20th century history; he donated them to Stanford, his alma mater, to found a library of war, revolution and peace. Hoover Tower also houses the Hoover Institution research center and think tank.
Hoover Tower, inspired by the cathedral tower at Salamanca, was finished in 1941, the year of Stanford's 50th anniversary. It was designed by architect Arthur Brown, Jr.
The tower has a carillon of 48 bells cast in Belgium and the Netherlands and the general public is not allowed at the top of the tower when the bells ring. The largest bell weighs in at 2.5 tons. The first nine floors of the tower are library stacks and the next three floors are used for offices. Exiled Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn lived on the 11th floor for some time upon invitation by Stanford University before he moved in 1976.
From the Hoover Tower one can see all of the Stanford campus The observation deck platform is 250 feet (76 m) above the ground, and provides an expansive view of the Stanford University campus and surrounding area. On clear days it is possible to see all the way to the distant skyline of San Francisco. Hoover Tower was struck by lightning, causing a 300-pound ornamental concrete ball to fall from the top of the tower onto a parking lot. Shot 4/23/14

VIDEO & MUSIC by MATTHEW E. JONES:
The video was filmed, edited, and scored by Matthew E. Jones (a.k.a. matt:matt), while Jones was an undergraduate student at Florida State University (FSU), Tallahassee. Jones met Yates when Yates gave a lecture at FSU on The Color of Palo Alto. Jones came to California and filmed the last day of data sampling (photography) in 2005 and edited the video in early 2006. Although it has been shown to art schools, universities, galleries, and other audiences since then, Yates and Jones have waited to post the video online until after the color was discovered and the unveiling was near.
LOCAL ITEM #1 - FACEBOOK HEADQUARTERS:
Unbeknownst to Yates and Jones when filming in 2005, the vacant lot under construction in the video (behind a chain link fence with I-beams and a port-a-potty) would become Facebook Intergalactic Headquarters at 164 Hamilton Avenue, two blocks from The Color of Palo Alto headquarters in Civic Center Plaza at 250 Hamilton Avenue. The Color of Palo Alto was located in the plaza from 2004 to 2008, and the Facebook building was finished in 2006.
LOCAL ITEM #2 - OPENING SHOT:
The opening shot of the video is from Foothills Park in Palo Alto looking toward City Hall at dawn. The Hoover Tower of Stanford University is visible in the left side of the frame. The water in the background is the San Francisco Bay. The City of Palo Alto boundary extends from the Santa Cruz Mountains down into the Bay.
FINAL COLOR:
The color specimens (photographs) were taken from every parcel in the city from January to December, 2005 (to capture all four seasons in Palo Alto), hence the reference to one year in the video. It took four years to build up to the data collection year, and several years to process the data afterward, hence 2001 to 2008, or seven years to complete the entire project. Also, the final color is not brown, grey, or beige.

The Future of Work Show - Episode 7: Inside PARC (Palo Alto Research Center)
In this episode of The Future of Work Show, Jacob goes inside one of the world's most known companies for innovation. In fact, PARC is one of the companies that helped start and spur the growth of Silicon Valley. PARC created the personal computer and is also responsible for the ethernet. It's safe to say that PARC is in the business of innovation and their employee base is comprised of around 250 Ph.D's from some of the world's top universities. What's interested about PARC is that every single person who works there has an office or a lab where they can experiment and run tests. Their CEO Stephen Hoover gives us a behind the scenes peek inside their labs and then Jacob sits down for a one on one chat with Stephen and some of their employees. Conversations cover everything from artificial intelligence and the freelancer economy to workplace design, millennials, technology, and of course, innovation. Tune in and enjoy!

Sacramento: Stanford Mansion
Stanford Mansion was once owned by Leland Stanford, Governor of California from 1862 to 1863, U.S. Senator from 1885 to 1893, railroad tycoon, member of the Big Four and founder of Stanford University.
Leland Stanford, president of the Central Pacific Railroad and a rising member of the Republican Party, purchased the home for $8,000 (equivalent to $223,000 in 2018) in June 1861, shortly before his election as California governor that year. During his two-year governorship, the Stanford Mansion served as the state's executive office and living quarters. Succeeding governors Frederick Low and Henry Huntly Haight would also make the mansion their office.
In 1900, Jane Stanford donated the home to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sacramento to be used for the children of California. It was given to the Sisters of Mercy who ran it as an orphanage named the Stanford and Lathrop Memorial Home for Friendless Children.
In 1932, the home was handed over the Sisters of Social Service who eventually transformed the mansion from an orphanage to a residence for dependent high school girls. A fire in the mansion in 1940 brought considerable damage to the fourth floor.
After the death of their only child Leland Stanford, Jr., in 1884 while on a trip in Italy, the elder Leland turned to his wife and said The children of California shall be our children. They then founded Leland Stanford Junior University in their son's honor.
The Stanfords donated approximately US$40 million (equivalent to $1,115,000,000 today) to develop the university, which held its opening exercises October 1, 1891. It was intended for agricultural studies. Its first student, admitted to Encina Hall that day, was Herbert Hoover, who went on to become the 31st U.S. President. The wealth of the Stanford family during the late 19th century is estimated at about $50 million (equivalent to $1,506,000,000 today).
Long suffering from locomotor ataxia, Leland Stanford died of heart failure at home in Palo Alto, California, on June 21, 1893. He was buried in the family mausoleum on the Stanford campus.
After Leland's death on June 21, 1893, Jane in effect took control of the university. It was at her direction that Stanford University gained an early focus on the arts. She also advocated the admission of women; the university had been coeducational since its founding.
On January 14, 1905, at her Nob Hill mansion in San Francisco, Stanford consumed mineral water that tasted bitter. She quickly forced herself to vomit the water. The water later was showed had been poisoned with a lethal dose of strychnine. Stanford shortly thereafter left San Francisco for Honolulu on February 15, 1905.
At the Moana Hotel on the evening of February 28, Stanford asked for bicarbonate of soda to settle her stomach. Her personal secretary, Bertha Berner (a trusted employee of twenty years' standing and the only other person present who had also been at the scene of the previous incident), prepared the solution, which Stanford drank. Afterwards, she was seized by a tetanic spasm that progressed relentlessly to a state of severe rigidity: her jaws clamped shut, her thighs opened widely, her feet twisted inwards, her fingers and thumbs clenched into tight fists, and her head drew back. Finally, her respiration ceased. Stanford was dead from strychnine poisoning.
Stanford University President David Starr Jordan had sailed to Hawaii himself and hired a local doctor, Ernest Coniston Waterhouse, to dispute poisoning as the cause of death. Stanford had long had a difficult relationship with Jordan; at the time of her death, she was president of the university's board of trustees and was reportedly planning to remove him from his position.
The source of the strychnine was never identified. Stanford was buried alongside her husband Leland and their son at the Stanford family mausoleum on the Stanford campus.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! Stanford Dish Loop Trail - an easy and hike near Stanford University campus
Do you enjoy hiking in San Francisco Bay Area? Stanford Dish Trail is an easy, but quite busy paved hiking trail near Stanford University campus. The name refers to a huge radio telescope still being in use and visible from many points of the hike. It's a nice route for runners with some pretty steep sections. The views are quite amazing with Stanford Hoover Tower and many landmarks of the Bay Area.
