Riding the New Zealand High Country
Each year, the local community of Pukeokahu, a small district east of Taihape, New Zealand, host a horse trek which explores some of the spectacular areas within the district. 2010 is a trek to the top of the Otupae range, a spectacular ride with tremendous views. This video was filmed during the preride, which takes place to ascertain the best route, and any hazards. This is a charitable ride, with proceeds going to the local Primary School. River Valley Stables - Working with Horses
The basis of the way in which our trekking horses at River Valley Stables, (Taihape, New Zealand) are trained is using natural horsemanship techniques.
Why? Horses trained using these techniques appear to be more forward moving, responsive, quiet, and be much happier.

It was real nice to have Anji and Kate stay with us recently. These two, coming all the way to River Valley, Taihape, New Zealand, from Idaho, were hard core adventurers, clocking up Grade 5 rafting trips, horse back riding, a scenic rafting trip, plus, in Anji's case jumping off high things at Mokai Gravity Canyon, all in two days.
