Taihape: Gumboot Capital of New Zealand - New Zealand's Biggest Gap Year – BackpackerGuide.NZ
Day 64: Today we are throwing gumboots in Taihape: the gumboot capital of New Zealand in its famous Taihape Gumboot Throwing Lane! We also climb Mt Stewart.
Yesterday - Day 63 -
Tomorrow – Day 65 –
About this video:
Today we are in the wonderful town of Taihape in New Zealand! It’s right in the middle of State High 1 and it’s also the Gumboot Capital of New Zealand! In today’s episode, we find out exactly what that means....
After a morning in the Rust Nail Backpackers in Taihape, we head down to the famous Taihape Gumboot Throwing Lane for our very own gumboot throwing competition! The Taihape Gumboot Throwing Lane is so the locals can practice for their gumboot day every year with competitions and more!
After throwing way too many muddy gumboots, we then head to the giant gumboot sculpture at the entrance of Taihape. Not only because, well, it’s an awesome giant gumboot in Taihape, but because it is also the entrance to a walk up Mt Stewart. The walk has lots of information about native trees on the way up Mt Stewart in Taihape, then we reach the top to a viewing platform opverlooking Taihape and the surrounding countryside.
So that is a day in Taihape. What do you think of the Gumboot Capital of New Zealand? Do you think it’s worth a pit stop?

New Zealand National Army Museum in Waiouru - New Zealand's Biggest Gap Year – BackpackerGuide.NZ
Day 63: Today we are doing the perfect rainy day activity as part of our 365 Days: 365 Activites – checking out the New Zealand National Army Museum in Waiouru!
Yesterday - Day 62 -
Tomorrow – Day 64 –
About this video:
It’s day 63 of New Zealand’s BIGGEST Gap Year and today we are starting the day in Taihape and making our way to the New Zealand National Army Museum in Wairouru.
We are greeted to a host of tanks outside of the New Zealand National Army Museum which Robin is desperate to drive, and then we enter the National Army Museum in Waiouru. The National Army Museum in Waiouru is an in-depth look at the New Zealand military from the early Maori battles to the world wars to modern warfare. Displays are with amazing sets of battle scenes, many you can view from the groud and above. There is so much to see that you could at least spend a good hour at the New Zealand National Army Museum in Waiouru.
After visiting the National Army Museum of New Zealand, we head back to Taihape and the Rusty Nail Backpackers.
So what do you think of the National Army Museum? Is the National Army Museum a place you would visit during a trip in New Zealand?

-- About this video --
Today we are taking the Queenstown Gondola to the top of Bob’s Peak to the start of our ziplining tour with Ziptrek Ecotours Queenstown. Our way down? Taking 6 long ziplines or “flying fox” all the way back down to Queenstown!
After gearing up, our first zipline in Queenstown is a practice run and then we get onto the faster and longer ziplines. We even can flip ourselves around and do a flying fox upside down!
At various different platforms, our guides tell us things about the forest, the environment and sustainability to make it a zipline ecotour.
We are also given different challenges with each zipline to make ourselves go faster. We are having a blast on one of the most famous zipline tours in New Zealand.
Ziplining in New Zealand is a super fun way to enjoy the New Zealand forest and one of the awesome adventure activities in Queenstown.
So what do you think of zip lining in Queenstown? Would you put it on your Queenstown Bucket List?
