8 Things NOT to Do in Barcelona
Get more Tips here! destinationtips.com
1. Don’t Wear Your Swim Suit in the Street
You might be able to get away with it on the beachfront promenade, but cover-up elsewhere. It’s not just considered tasteless and inappropriate, it’s actually illegal. You can be fined €100 to €200 if you are caught walking around in skimpy beachwear – even men wandering bare-chested in shorts is a no-no.
2. Don’t Expect to See a Bullfight
After the Canary Islands, Catalonia was the second Spanish region to ban the bovine blood sport. It has been prohibited in there since 2011 as they see it as form of animal torture.
3. Don’t Go to Starbucks
There are so many wonderful local spots to get your caffeine fix, it would be a coffee-crime to miss out on them.
4. Don’t Light Up Just Anywhere
Tobacco consumption is prohibited in all public buildings and on public transport, including taxis. You can’t smoke at workplaces, railway stations, bars, restaurants or nightclubs. It’s also not allowed on hospital grounds, health centers and schools.
5. Don’t Go Out Too Early for Nightlife
Locals rarely eat dinner before 9 pm and don’t go out before midnight if they’re planning to hit the clubs. Many places are even closed until then.
6. Don’t Go to Barceloneta Beach
Barceloneta Beach is one of the most central and popular beaches in the city, but it’s often packed full of people and covered in cigarette butts and other litter. Although the promenade can be entertaining for an evening stroll, there are far better places to sunbathe or swim. Some of the best include Bogatell, Mar Bella and, most of all, Ocata Beach, which is one of the cleanest in the area.
7. Don’t Eat at the La Rambla Tourist Traps
It’s the city’s number-one tourist trap and, as such, it is full of rip-off venues. If you’re looking for a far better value and more authentic local experience, there are plenty of places to go just off the main drag.
8. Don’t Act Like a Tourist
The central regions do have a serious problem with pickpockets, so don’t wave your camera, map and money around and try not to stand out.
5 Things NOT To Do in Spain
Get more Tips here!
If you're thinking about heading out to Spain to devour some tapas, explore the breathtaking architecture of Antoni Gaudí, and dance the flamenco, it's only right that you're equipped with our list of things you should also avoid.
1. Don't Drive Without a Permit
It's against the law to drive without an International Driving Permit. It's easy to apply, ( and you won't have to worry about getting your rental car impounded while you're out exploring the town.
2. Don't Ignore the Flag System
The Spanish coastline has a warning system that's used to help visitors of any impending danger in the ocean. So if staying safe is your top priority, then you'll want to pay attention to warnings of rough waves or strong undercurrents.
3. Don't Bother Rushing
In Spain they have a saying: Mañana. (tomorrow.) Especially in restaurants, it might take awhile for your server to take your order, and take even longer for your food to be brought out. So enjoy a drink or two and chat with your companions to pass the time.
4. Don't Think It's All About Bulls
Most tourists can't wait to head out to Spain to check out the bullfighting, but the controversial blood-sport isn't as popular as it once was. In fact, many Spaniards are calling for bullfighting to be banned entirely.
5. Don't Expect Everyone to Speak Spanish
99% of Spaniards speak Spanish, but there are five national languages in the country, including Catalan, Basque, Galician, and Aragonese, so there's always the small possibility you'll run into someone who doesn't speak the language, especially in the north.
Where do you want to know what not to do in next?

A Day in Opunake, Taranaki - New Zealand's Biggest Gap Year – Backpacker Guide New Zealand
Day 56: Today we are exploring the Taranaki town of Opunake! Join us on the Opunake Walkway as part of our 365 Days: 365 Activities in New Zealand!
Yesterday - Day 55 -
Tomorrow – Day 57 –
About this video:
Today we are in the South Taranaki town of Opunake, New Zealand! We figure that the best way to explore the town is by taking the Opunake Walkway!
We start the Opunake Walkway within the town itself, colourful with murals and a quirky cinema. We then head toward a lake and the Opunake Walkway takes us around the perimeter of the lake. We then follow a river and out onto the sensation Opunake Coastline. We follow the rugged Opunake Coastline with epic views of Mt Taranaki on one side and crashing waves on the other.
Luckily, the Opunake Walkway is right next to the Opunake Holiday Park on the beachfront, so we head back down to the Opunake Beach. The weather is too grim for surfing today, but we loved doing the Opunake Walkway to get a great sense of Opunake and its surroundings.
So what do you think of Opunake? Would you stop by while doing a road trip in New Zealand? Let us know in the comments below!

Beware These Worst Beaches for Shark Attacks!
Shark attacks seem to be on the rise in many parts of the world, therefore, you might want to steer clear of the following known shark-infested waters. Statistically, these are among the most dangerous beaches for deadly shark attacks.
1. Pernambuco, Brazil
The shockingly high attack rate in these waters appears to be due to over-fishing. Without enough food supply, the sharks have begun to sample other forms of fare to satisfy their relentless hunger.
2. Second Beach, South Africa
The beach is popular among shark-seeking tourists and cage divers. Tour operators dump boatloads of bloody chum in the water order to entice the great whites. You definitely don’t want to surf or swim anywhere near these boats and their chum lines.
3. New Smyrna Beach, Florida
More than 238 shark attacks have been documented at Florida’s (surprisingly) popular New Smyrna Beach. In fact, 15% of worldwide shark bites have occurred here. Most of the bites are courtesy of baby bull sharks that favor these waters. To date, none of the recorded attacks here have been fatal.
4. Velzyland Beach, Hawaii
About 41 different shark species that frequent Hawaii’s waters including aggressive specimens like bull sharks and great whites. The last fatal shark attack at this beach occurred in 1994 when a tiger shark attacked a surfer. More recent attacks on surfers have been reported, but none fatal.
5. New South Wales, Australia
This region, which includes famous Bondi Beach, has recorded more than 170 unprovoked shark attacks and more than 50 fatal attacks, and great white shark encounters are more common here than in other parts of the world. Due to the position of the continental shelf, swimmers and surfers are in close proximity of deep waters where these potential predators cruise.
6. Fletcher Cove, California
Fletcher Cove may be picturesque, but it is also the scene of 142 unprovoked shark attacks, including some recent fatalities. Scientists are convinced that the fish-strewn waters in this region are ideal feeding grounds for large predators like the great white.
7. Reunion Island, Indian Ocean
This island has had more than 10 attacks in a recent two-year period, three being fatal. This has prompted island officials to close the beaches to swimmers and surfers. Experts aren’t sure why the sharks are biting people with greater frequency.
8. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Since 2005, there have been more than fifty attacks. In fact, researchers have claimed that South Carolina’s waters are just as dangerous as Florida’s when comparing the swimmer-to-attack ratio. Their waters are attractive to species like tiger sharks and bull sharks.
9. Coffin Bay, Australia
The name says it all. Don’t swim here unless you fancy a meeting with a great white. Recently an abalone diver was attacked and killed by two great white sharks. His body was never recovered.
10. Surf Beach, California
A nineteen-year-old surfer was attacked and killed a few years ago by a great white shark believed to be 18 feet in length. The waters here are home to seals, which attract great whites in large numbers.

Popular Diving and Snorkeling Destination - Papua New Guinea
Papua New Guinea, located by Indonesia and near Australia's south-western Pacific Ocean, has recently become an internationally famous exotic destination with some of the most exciting places to visit on the globe.
Many travel experts state that top-class diving sites attract a fair share of travelers, who point out that one of the best advantages of diving in PNG is the minimal impact of civilization on the marine life, so there are incredible pristine coral reefs to be explored and photographed.
Other good places for diving and snorkeling may be found here:
We recommend checking out:
- Zenobia;
- Jacob’s Well;
- Green Lake in Austria.

00:00 Lion’s Head
No place is better for a sundowner in Cape Town. The 1,5 hour climb rewards you with an unforgettable view, 670 metres above the city.
00:06 Bo-Kaap
The most colourful part of Cape Town is home to an interesting mix of muslim-dutch inhabitants.
00:08 Kruger National Park
Kruger is arguably the most famous of all national parks, where you can tick of your Big 5. We especially enjoyed the less visited Klaserie area and the Addo Elephant National Park (where you also get to see Whale Sharks and the Great White – making it the Big 7).
00:12 Kalahari Trails Sanctuary
The cutest experience of all! It’s less about the rescued meerkats you get to see there. There’s actually a bunch of wild meerkats visiting the area avery day who let you get up close and join them on their hole digging business.
00:15 iSimangaliso Wetland Park
In November they lay their eggs, in the South African summer the turtles are hatching. No place better to watch this spectacle than this national park!
00:17-00:22 The Winelands
It is impossible to buy bad wine in South Africa. And you have to visit at least one winery and do a proper tasting. The winery of Viljoensdrift even offers tastings on a relaxing boat trip – for sure the best way to do it!
00:23 Albrecht Street - Maboneng
You’re into street art? You adore your fixie bike and your triple chai fly macchiato mocca? Drop by Maboneng, the hippest place in South Africa.
00:25 Bloukrans Bridge
You’re into adrenalin? Then stop at the Bloukrans Bridge and jump with Face Adrenalin a whopping 216 meters into the gorge.
00:28 Helicopter ride
You have to see beautiful Cape Town from above. Helicopter rides are quite affordable and we highly recommend doing it. Some tours even go around the cape – even better!
00:29 Table Mountain
This 1000 meter high mountain right above the city centre of Cape Town is part of the New Seven Wonders of the World. You can walk up here, but we highly recommend taking the cableway. Safe your stamina for the Lion’s Head.
00:30 Augrabies Falls
Few things are more impressive than a massive amount of water falling… You agree? Visit this massive waterfall (56 metres) in a gorgeous gorge - haha (240 metres).
00:32 Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park
Another desert, another sundowner. You won’t get the read beauty of the Kalahari out of your head, we promise! (No matter how much you drink)
00:35-00:37 Rooftops in Johannesburg
It’s rough and might not be as picturesque as Cape Town, but Jo’burg is on the rise and booming. Its skyline is eye-popping – good that some hotel owners knew that and provide lots of rooftop terraces.
00:39 Nature’s Valley
One of those places that you hardly find along the road. On our tour we stopped at a beautiful beach right at the river mouth of the Grootrivier. There was noone else. Thankfully.
00:41 Noetzie Beach
Yes, it is hard to get there. But the dramatic rock formations are totally worth the exhausting walk down to Noetzie Beach (and back up again).
00:42 Muizenberg
You’re into surfing and beach life? Then you’ll love the relaxed vibe along the ocean boulevard of Muizenberg. And the colourful Edwardian Beach Houses are quite instagrammy.
00:45 Orange River
South Africa at one side, Namibia to the other. What a cool way of passing through the “green” Kalahari. The great guys from Tutwa Desert Lodge organised this trip for us. Recommended!
00:46 Panorama Route
Such a perfect roadtrip! From the sunsets to funnily named rock formations, to… (see 01:00)
00:51 Table Mountain
Worth a second visit. See 00:29.
00:53 Boulders Beach
Yes, there are penguins in Africa. And they’re awesome. Boulders Beach is a colony where you can even swim with the cutest birds alive – if you pay at the entrance.
00:55 Misty Cliffs
Rent a bike and explore Cape Towns surroundings, they are so worth it! Misty Cliffs was our favourite bit, because, well, of the mist. And the cliffs.
00:58 Cape of Good Hope
Well, you hopefully get there eventually. Though cueing up for a photo behind the famous signboard spoils the romantic a bit. Do it anyway. You’re already there so…
01:00 God’s Window
We have to admit, we were a little bit disappointed by the “Window” itself. A rusty bit of fence in front of a gorge. The walk up there was great though, and it should look incredible with a cloud carpet covering it (like seen in the cult film “The God’s Must be Crazy”).
01:02 Blyde River Canyon
What. A. Canyon. By far the best bit of the Panorama Route for us. Just…well…breathaking. These mighty green mountains, this view, this sunset…Could someone get us another Savanna, please?
