The Rugbys - You, I (1969)
The Rugbys are a rock band from Louisville, Kentucky, best known for their U.S. Top 40 hit You, I.
The band was formed in 1965 in Louisville, doing mostly covers. But as competition among Louisville groups to write and record original music increased, the Rugbys recorded and released two singles in 1968, Walking the Streets Tonight, written by Doug Sahm of the Sir Douglas Quintet, later included on the compilation album Highs in the Mid-Sixties, Volume 8, and Stay with Me, written by the late Steve McNicol. Both songs were released locally and played on Louisville radio stations WAKY and WKLO.
The band found success later in 1968, when they decided to release the B-side of Stay with Me, a song called You, I, also written by McNicol. You, I climbed to #1 on both local radio stations. They were then signed to Shelby Singleton's Nashville, Tennessee, record label, Amazon Records, which re-released the single You, I in 1969, and the song became a national hit, climbing to #24 on the Billboard Hot 100, #22 on the Cash Box magazine charts and #18 on the Record World charts. You, I was also released worldwide on labels from Spain (Exit Records), Italy (Akarma Records), England (Polydor Records) and Thailand (Thai Records). Akarma also released the album Hot Cargo on CD in a limited edition, which is very rare and hard to find on the internet. The song You, I was also covered by a couple of other international groups (The Pepper Smelter Group, from Peru, and the Climax, from Belgium).
The latter part of 1969 and all of 1970 were spent touring the midwest and northeast, playing on the same bill with artists like Bob Seger, Grand Funk Railroad, the James Gang, and many others. Later that year, the band released their only album, Hot Cargo, which received only mild success due to a complete lack of national promotion and a failure by Shelby Singleton in 1969–70 to recognize the upsurge of FM radio. Wendegahl the Warlock was the follow-up single to You, I, but was not as successful, charting at #122 on the Cash Box charts and #84 on Record World. Hot Cargo would later be released on CD along with an album by a group named Lazarus on the same disc, called The Rugbys meet Lazarus. More recently, in 2007, Gear Fab Records released an anthology album with McNicol and the Rugbys previously unreleased original material called The Lost Sessions.

Andy Kirkpatrick 'When Hell Freezes Over' 2007
I’m told this old film of me speaking is very funny, but I’ve never watched it, and probably never will, as I’m too scared that I’ll watch it and think “What a knob head”. It was filmed in Stornaway Scotland over ten years ago and I think my style, delivery etc has improved somewhat since then (this is more like a funny climbing slideshow, rather than a proper 'one man show'). If you look not very closely you'll notice curry stains on my t-shirt from the meal I had just before starting!
Climbing's answer to Swimming to Cambodia
Andy Kirkpatrick is one of the mountain world’s big hitters: Winner of the Boardman-Tasker Award for his 2008 top selling book, Pyscho Vertical; prolific writer, gear guru, film maker and of course, a rather adventurous climber. But it is through his stand up shows that Andy is probably best known to the public.
Using video, music and a unique sense of humour, Andy details one of the most treacherous mountain ranges in the world, giving the audience a taste of what it is like on an expedition; being trapped on mile high summits in hurricane winds, buried by avalanche, or being pushed close to hypothermia whilst lashed to the side of a mountain.
Filmed live at Stornoway in December 2008, this DVD packs a full-on 100 minutes of the very best of Andy tale’s and humour. It is quite simply hilarious.
I’ve long been a fan of the film Swimming to Cambodia where Spalding Gray does his one man show, just him, a stage and some images. Maybe I’m up my own arse, but I thought I’d get Hot Aches to film one of the final shows I did on my tour.
All in all a thumbs up from me. Andy Kirkpatrick live in your living room, at least you can be sure he won’t pee in your cup!

An Officer And A Gentleman Ending
An Officer and a Gentleman is a 1982 American romantic drama film[3] starring Richard Gere, Debra Winger and Louis Gossett, Jr., who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the film, and was produced by Lorimar Productions for Paramount Pictures. It tells the story of Zack (Gere), a U.S. Navy Aviation Officer Candidate who is beginning his training at Aviation Officer Candidate School. While Zack meets his first true girlfriend during his training, a local young woman named Paula (Winger), he also comes into conflict with the hard-driving Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant (Gossett, Jr.), the drill instructor training his class.
The film was written by Douglas Day Stewart and directed by Taylor Hackford. Its title is an old expression from the British Royal Navy and later from the U.S. Uniform Code of Military Justice's charge of conduct unbecoming an Officer and a Gentleman (from 1860). The film was commercially released in the U.S. on August 13, 1982. It was well received by critics, with a number calling it the best film of 1982. It also was a financial success, grossing $130 million against a $6 million budget.
Richard Gere balked at shooting the ending of the film, in which Zack arrives at Paula's factory wearing his naval dress whites and carries her off the factory floor. Gere thought the ending would not work because it was too sentimental. Director Taylor Hackford agreed with Gere until, during a rehearsal, the extras playing the workers began to cheer and cry. When Gere saw the scene later, with the music underneath it (Up Where We Belong) at the right tempo, he said it gave him chills. Gere is now convinced Hackford made the right decision. Screenwriter Michael Hauge, in his book Writing Screenplays That Sell, echoed this opinion: I don't believe that those who criticized this Cinderella-style ending were paying very close attention to who exactly is rescuing whom.

HOVERING over an abyss, this daredevil proves the most extreme slacklining spots are not always up a mountain. And with a drop of more than 200ft, this reservoir drain more than delivers the necessary fear factor. Extreme sportsman Flaviu Cernescu crossed the pitch-black hole eight times in one day. He even took took his unicycle out for a spin around the rim of the drain which is located at the edge of Lake Iovanu in Romania.

About The Killers:
The Killers are a Las Vegas-based four-piece who formed in 2003, featuring the talents of singer/keyboardist Brandon Flowers, drummer Ronnie Vanucci, guitarist Dave Keuning and bassist Mark Stoermer. The band has received countless accolades for their artistic achievement, including multiple Grammy nominations, American Music Award nominations, MTV Video Music Awards, NME Awards and more.Their first album, Hot Fuss, was released in 2004 to worldwide acclaim. The album contained the singles “Mr. Brightside” and “Somebody Told Me,” in addition to the anthemic song “All These Things That I’ve Done,” which has since been referenced by the likes of U2 and Coldplay. The band toured for two years straight behind Hot Fuss, playing more than four-hundred shows, and eventually returned to Vegas to begin to work on the follow-up album with legendary producers Alan Moulder and Flood. The result, a love letter of sorts to their hometown entitled Sam’s Town, was released in 2006 and spent forty-two weeks on the Billboard Top 200.A b-sides collection entitled Sawdust was released in 2007, followed by their third studio album, Day & Age, which was released to widespread critical praise in 2008, anchored by massive single “Human.”The Killers released Battle Bornin September 2012, which saw them expanding their world tour into countries they’ve never visited before, and finally were honored to perform at the world-renowned Wembley Arena, one of the most monumental and significant shows of their career. After a decade of making music, in November 2013, The Killers released a “Best Of” collection, Direct Hits, which featured two incredible new songs alongside classics from the band’s revered catalogue. The band, who have sold over twenty-five million albums worldwide, and headlined all of the world’s top festivals (Coachella, Lollapalooza, Glastonbury), released their newest studio album, Wonderful Wonderful, in September 2017, where it landed at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart the week of its release, as well a stopping the charts in the U.K. and Australia. The album is the band’s fifth consecutive number one in the U.K., and Brandon Flowers’ seventh U.K. number one overall.

The Purple Helmets live on the Isle of Man in 'Castle Wintop' near to Injebreck, in West Baldwin. They sleep together in a large round bed and mostly eat twigs and leaves that they collect from local plantations. During still autumn nights they can often be heard singing each other to sleep and the orange glow from their peat fire can be seen from many miles away. None of the Purple Helmets go by their real names; they all have stage names to protect their identities from both women and dentists. Because they live on the edge of a reservoir the Purple Helmets are great swimmers, two of whom swam for the North West of England under 12's and the whole team have their brown life saving medallions.
There is no leader of the Purple Helmets, they have instead a form of democracy called Clinglip, whereby hot stones are placed on their heads and whoever lasts the longest is allowed to make the decision. If one is lucky enough to examine the top of one of their heads when their helmets are off you will see the rotten scorch marks. These marks have never been photographed. The Purple Helmets love Italian food, seafood paella with skunk is their favourite. They will drink almost anything alcoholic and once got drunk on stale sherbet lemons and cheese cake brandy. Only eight of the Purple Helmets have been in prison, mostly for cruelty offences or poaching geese. There is a wi-fi connection at 'Castle Wintop'.

[ XP11 | VATSIM ] Lover's Cove! Palm Springs (KPSP) to Catalina (KAVX) in the Aeroworx DC-3!
Attempt number four to get to Lover's Cove on Catalina Island ended much as the first one did -- with a VOR approach into impossibly low ceilings, just for the practice. During the pre-stream flight planning, it looked like it cleared up for just a little bit; but, by the time we went live, a landing there was already looking like a longshot.
We took off from Palm Springs in good visibility, but flew the Cathedral One departure to spec anyway, again, just for the practice. It's a complex, upward-spiraling route that ensures you don't get tangled up in any of the very high, no-nonsense giant rocks that surround the field. Climb performance on a nice, hot, 40-degree Celsius (104 degrees F) day was less than ideal and it took one loop around the hold at Palm Springs VOR before we were at our minimum airway altitude (errrrr... almost!) and could proceed westbound. We hand-flew the Douglas up and out, and, it worked out more-or-less like the coach drew it up on the chalkboard.
Along the way, SoCal Approach was kind enough to pop in and provide some ATC service (and as it turns out, to lurk in the stream as well, the rascal!). The arrival into Catalina (KAVX) wound up being a bigger tease than it seemed, even -- because while over the Pacific coast we had the island in plain sight, but then as soon as we turned toward the airport, it socked us into the soup from hell that came from nowhere. Just as always, we hand-flew the approach and missed procedure as we diverted to our favorite alternate, John Wayne Airport (KSNA). Our visual to 20R there was fairly uneventful and the landing a solid B+. -- Watch live at

We take a look, and hear, from the choir at the newly completed ML Wood Song School at Peel Cathedral. The building is named after Mary Louisa Wood, the 'Mother of Manx Music', who was the first Organist of the Cathedral Church who established a large choir that was renowned both on Island and across. But as competition among Louisville groups to write and record original music increased, the Rugbys recorded and released two singles in 1968, Walking the Streets Tonight, written by Doug Sahm of the Sir Douglas Quintet, later included on the compilation album Highs in the Mid-Sixties, Volume 8, and Stay with Me, written by Steve McNicol. Both songs were released locally and played on Louisville radio stations WAKY and WKLO. But it was not until later that year when the band decided to release the B-side of Stay with Me, a song called You, I, also written by McNicol, that they found success. You, I climbed to #1 on both local radio stations. They were then signed to Shelby Singleton's Nashville, Tennessee, record label, Amazon Records, which re-released the single You, I in 1969, and the song became a national hit, climbing to #24 on the Hot 100 and #22 on the Cash Box magazine charts. There are several posts of You, I on YouTube. You, I was also released worldwide on labels from Spain (Exit Records), Italy (Akarma Records), England (Polydor Records) and Thailand (Thai Records). Akarma also released the album Hot Cargo on CD in a limited edition, which is very rare and hard to find on the internet. The song You, I was also covered by a couple of other international groups, (The Pepper Smelter Group, from Peru, and the Climax, from Belgium ). Both of their versions are also on YouTube. The latter part of 1969 and all of 1970 were spent touring the midwest and northeast, playing on the same bill with artists like Bob Seger, Grand Funk Railroad, the James Gang, and many others. Check out the 1969 Palm Beach Music Festival poster. Later that year, the band released their only album, Hot Cargo, which received only mild success due to a complete lack of national promotion and a failure by Shelby Singleton in 1969-70 to recognize the upsurge of FM radio. Wendegahl the Warlock was the follow-up single to You, I, but it did not chart. Hot Cargo would later be released on CD along with an album by a group named Lazarus on the same disc, called The Rugbys meet Lazarus. More recently, in 2007
