Superb Model Railway Layout in OO Gauge and one of the finest in British Railway Modelling
Once again, Pilentum presents one of the finest model railway layouts made in Great Britain. It is the third layout made by the British model railroader Peter Goss. The model railway - built in OO scale or 4 mm or OO gauge - is based on the North Yorkshire market town of Knaresborough. It was completed at the end of 2014 and has been presented at model railway exhibitions since then.
Pete Goss started planning this model railway in 2009, and after extensive survey work and detailed planning model construction finally commenced in February 2010. The scenery is set in the time period around 2005 to 2015. The rolling stock includes the modern day colorfully liveried diesel multiple units (DMU) and several long special trains, for example the “Northern Belle Pullman” or the “Scarborough Spa Express”. The layout has only a simple branch line theme with trains running through the station on a twin track continuous circuit run.
The market town setting contains a very strong historical theme. It is that theme of model railroading that Pete is very familiar with. Pete has always had a fascination with railways and buildings. His main interest is the architecture and styles of old and historic buildings and displaying them at a true scale within the realms of railway modelling. Over the years, Pete has attended model railway exhibitions all over the United Kingdom and also in Germany, Netherlands and Belgium.
The model railway layout in this video got the name “The Worlds End”, because this name refers to the pub that is located near the railway station of Knaresborough. Apart from the train station, the model railway layout contains a large stone built and ornate viaduct over the River Nidd which is around five feet long and 14 inches high. And, there are other scenes on the layout that will intrigue and entertain folks whilst watching the model trains go by. Substantial numbers of metal cast and converted plastic model figures have been employed on the layout and inside the coaches. Pete’s model railway layout was shown at the great Norwich Model Railway Exhibition in 2017. Pilentum made this video at the International Scale Model Exhibition in Dortmund, Germany, in 2018.

Battle Stations - SR-71 Blackbird Stealth Plane -Full Documentary
The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird (so named for its heat-resistant black paint) first flew in 1964, and since that time it has remained the world's fastest aircraft. Tanks in the inner wings and upper fuselage carry the 80,000 pounds of special, superheated fuel.
Few weapon systems have ever entered the military arena with such blinding superiority as did the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird. No weapon system has ever maintained that same degree of superiority over a period of four decades. Today, the Blackbird is still the fastest, highest-flying, most-effective reconnaissance aircraft in history, even though budgetary considerations have caused it to be withdrawn from active service.
Like the U-2, a product of the U.S. government's super-secret Skunk Works research & development center, the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird is a perfect expression of Kelly Johnson's genius and his leadership of a brilliant team of fewer than 200 engineers.
The USAF's SR-71 was a two-seat development of the earlier A-12 aircraft used by the Central Intelligence Agency. The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird first flew on December 22, 1964, and by December 1967, all 31 of the Blackbirds had been delivered to the USAF.
The Blackbird was both a miracle of design and of production, for its performance (speed of Mach 3.2, more than 90,000 feet of altitude, a 4,000-mile range) had to overcome not only the sound barrier, but also the heat barrier. Skin temperatures of the craft exceeded 1,050 degrees Fahrenheit. Special fuels, hydraulic fluids, electronics, and glass had to be developed to match the strength of the aircraft's titanium structure.
A Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, flown invariably by a highly skilled crew, became an invulnerable, invaluable reconnaissance aircraft. Unlike satellites in fixed orbits, the SR-71 could be deployed within hours to anywhere in the world.
The usefulness of the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird went beyond military applications to diplomatic roles. During the 1973 Middle East Yom Kippur War, reconnaissance photos taken by the SR-71 determined the positions of the advancing Israeli forces, and were used during subsequent peace negotiations. And as a research instrument, the SR-71 has few peers; although officially retired, Blackbirds are rumored to be occasionally flown -- unofficially -- in NASA research.
Blackbirds set many records for speed and altitude, the last one a transcontinental speed record of less than 68 minutes -- on the delivery flight of a retired SR-71 to the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.

London 4K - Sunset Drive - Driving Downtown - Central London England
Thursday evening drive around London. I tried to get all the popular spots in one video. What most people think of London is the West End area where most of this video is filmed. The tour starts on Regent Street, continues through Piccadilly Circus (London's version of New York City's Times Square, through Trafalgar Square, then passing by the British Prime Ministers home at 10 Downing Street along Whitehall and Parliament Streets, next by the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, along the River Thames with views of the famous Coca Cola London Eye, then going back to the Theater District, leading to Oxford Street which is Europe's busiest shopping Street, and ending in the Mayfield neighborhood on luxury Bond Street. Wow. That was a lot of text for a video platform... :)
The West End of London is the largest central business district in the United Kingdom, comparable to Midtown Manhattan in New York City, Causeway Bay in Hong Kong, Shibuya in Tokyo, or the 8th arrondissement in Paris. It is one of the most expensive locations in the world in which to rent office space. While the City of London, or the Square Mile, is the main business and financial district in London, the West End is the main commercial and entertainment centre of the city.
The West End of London (commonly referred to as the West End), refers to both a distinct and the wider region of Central London, west of the City of London and north of the River Thames, in which many of the city's major tourist attractions, shops, businesses, government buildings and entertainment venues, including West End theatres, are concentrated.
Activities:
Taking a fairly broad definition of the West End, the area contains the main concentrations of most of London's metropolitan activities apart from financial and many types of legal services, which are concentrated primarily in the City of London. There are major concentrations of the following buildings and activities in the West End:
Art galleries and museums
Company headquarters outside the financial services sector (although London's many hedge funds are based mainly in the West End)
Educational institutions
Embassies
Government buildings (mainly around Whitehall)
Hotels
Institutes, learned societies and think tanks
Legal institutions
Media establishments
Places of entertainment: theatres, cinemas nightclubs, music venues, bars and restaurants
Shops
The annual New Year's Day Parade takes place on the streets of the West End.
Update on Space Station’s Expandable Module on This Week @NASA – June 3, 2016
Activities aboard the International Space Station during the first week in June included continued operations with the Bigelow Expandable Activity Module (BEAM) – which was fully expanded on May 28. The follow-up work included equalizing BEAM’s internal pressure and conducting leak checks to ensure its structural integrity. The BEAM is a technology demonstration to study expandable habitats in space. When it is safe to do so, NASA’s Jeff Williams will open the hatch and be the first to enter the inflatable experimental habitat. At more than 13 feet long and about 10.5 feet in diameter, the module adds about 565 cubic feet of habitable volume to the station. Emirates New Economy Class - Walk Through, Stansted Airport - Business Traveller
Emirates New Economy Class - Walk Through at Stansted Airport - with Tom Otley, Editor of Business Traveller magazine.
- - Alright, welcome to our economy class cabin. The first thing you've probably noticed is the color pallette. It's changed, we've added some airy color, some blues, some champagnes. Another great feature is our adjustable headsets. They're all leather now. If you want to take a look. I'll also draw your attention to our screens. They are now 13.3 inches wide. We've also added the USB port, A and C, as well as a charger underneath the seats. Did you want to have a seat? They also recline quite far, as well, so there's going to be lots of space. We can fit 306 passengers in this cabin. Flown with us before in economy, this is what the meal tray looks like. We also have children's toys on board, for kids 12 and under, on request. We also have some formula's, diapers, amenities like that for infants. I'll also bring your attention to our amenities kits. If you're traveling with us for over nine hours, you get one of these in economy. I'll just open it up for you. We just have eye shades, ear plugs, toothbrushes, socks, and all of that wonderful stuff inside. - [Man] How many plug points are there, so if you've four seats like that? - [Attendant] How many plug points in terms of USB? - [Man] Yeah, just in the row, yeah. - [Attendant] Yeah, so, each screen, we have two USB ports, so two, four, six. And then underneath the seat, depending on the row and the configuration, for seats of four like this, we have two charging stations here, and in seats like this, there is one. - [Man] So this is an interesting thing, that in the front seats, although you also get extra leg room, but you also, there's one plug and you can see the USB's are under the seat instead of in the seat in front. - [Attendant] Aside from the change in color palette. - [Man] There are three economy class cabins. A small one at the front, this larger one, and then a pretty large one at the back as well. How many seats were there in total? - [Attendant] In total in economy class, we have 306, in our business class cabin, 42, and six suites in first class. - So this is what it's like if you're sitting in your seat normally. I've reclined the seat backwards, so it is pretty close. Let's see if I can take a shot of myself from a distance. So, this is where we sit. I'll recline my body. And this is the final cabin, the back cabin.
VOA News for 11 May 2013 - 20130511
The News for Saturday, May 11th, 2013 from VOAnews.com Polls have closed in most areas in Pakistan, in historic elections that will bring about a transition from one civilian administration to another civilian administration.
Voters went to the polls Saturday to choose a new national assembly and four provincial assemblies. Army and police were on standby to prevent any major attacks after weeks of election-related violence killed more than a 100 people. Scattered incidents of violence killed at least 14 people on Saturday, but overall observers report voting went smoothly.
Voters predicted record turnouts in Pakistan's national elections.
Hundreds of people from wealthy to poorer neighborhoods alike lined up outside their local polling stations determined to cast their votes.
The elections mark the first time in the country's history that a civilian government has finished its term and handed over power to another civilian government via the ballot box.
A top U.N. official says up to 3,000 African Union soldiers have been killed in Somalia over the past few years fighting the Islamist insurgency.
U.N. Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson gave the death toll at a news conference Thursday at U.N. headquarters.
Eliasson said Uganda and Burundi, which supplied most of the troops for the AU force, have paid a tremendous price.
Over the past two years, AU troops have forced militant group al-Shabab out of southern Somali towns and cities they once controlled.
Installation of a silver spire atop New York's new One World Trade Center skyscraper has been completed. The spire is a symbolic rebirth of America's biggest city after terrorists destroyed twin towers at the same site in 2001.
With the last work on the spire Friday, the new building reaches a height of 1,776 feet or 541 meters. This height is a figure meant to recall the year the United States declared its independence from England in 1776.
Crew members on the International Space Station have begun a spacewalk to repair an ammonia leak in the orbiting laboratory's power cooling system.
American astronauts Chris Cassidy and Tom Marshburn ventured outside the space station Saturday to find the source of the leak and fix it.
The space station's Canadian commander, Chris Hadfield, described the leak Friday as a serious situation, but one that has been stabilized by the six-member crew.
The U.S. space agency NASA said the crew was not in danger and that the station otherwise continues to operate normally.
Turkey's Interior Minister said the death toll from the bombings in Rayhanli, near the country's border with Syria has risen to 40, with about 100 more wounded.
The Interior Minister says two car bombs went off in the town just a few kilometers from a Syrian border crossing. Turkish media outlets had reported earlier that there were four blasts Saturday.
Residents rushed to the scene of the explosions to help the many injured. The blasts occurred Saturday around 2 p.m. local time in the center of town. The interior minister blamed the explosions on two car bombs that he said targeted a municipal building and post office. Several buildings were destroyed while others were set on fire. A stream of ambulances and cars rushed the injured to nearby hospitals.
Former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak has appeared in a Cairo courtroom to once again face trial.
Saturday's proceeding is a retrial. Mubarak was given a life sentence for the charges last year, but was granted re-trial after appeals by both the prosecution and defense over procedural failings.
Mubarak's retrial was scheduled to begin in April, but the judge at the time recused himself within minutes of the start of the proceedings.

A few hours spent at Kings Cross station on Christmas Eve Eve of Monday 23rd December 2019.
Kings Cross info:
King's Cross railway station, also known as London King's Cross, is a passenger railway terminus in the London Borough of Camden, on the edge of Central London. It is in the London station group, one of the busiest stations in the United Kingdom and the southern terminus of the East Coast Main Line to North East England and Scotland. Adjacent to King's Cross station is St Pancras International, the London terminus for Eurostar services to continental Europe. Beneath both main line stations is King's Cross St Pancras tube station on the London Underground; combined they form one of the country's largest transport hubs.
The station was opened in Kings Cross in 1852 by the Great Northern Railway on the northern edge of Central London to accommodate the East Coast Main Line. It quickly grew to cater for suburban lines and was expanded several times in the 19th century. It came under the ownership of the London and North Eastern Railway as part of the Big Four grouping in 1923, who introduced famous services such as the Flying Scotsman and locomotives such as Mallard. The station complex was redeveloped in the 1970s, simplifying the layout and providing electric suburban services, and it became a major terminus for the high-speed InterCity 125. As of 2018, long-distance trains from King's Cross are run by London North Eastern Railway to Edinburgh Waverley, Leeds and Newcastle; other long-distance operators include Hull Trains and Grand Central. In addition, Great Northern runs suburban commuter trains in and around north London.
In the late 20th century, the area around the station became known for its seedy and downmarket character, and was used as a backdrop for several films as a result. A major redevelopment was undertaken in the 21st century, including restoration of the original roof, and the station became well known for its association with the Harry Potter books and films, particularly the fictional Platform 9¾.

Location and name:
The station stands on the London Inner Ring Road at the eastern end of Euston Road, next to the junction with Pentonville Road, Gray's Inn Road and York Way, in what is now the London Borough of Camden. Immediately to the west, on the other side of Pancras Road, is St Pancras railway station. Several London bus routes, including 30, 59, 73, 91, 205, 390 and 476 pass in front of or to the side of the station.
King's Cross is spelled both with and without an apostrophe. King's Cross is used in signage at the Network Rail and London Underground stations, on the Tube map and on the official Network Rail webpage. It rarely featured on early Underground maps, but has been consistently used on them since 1951. Kings X, Kings + and London KX are abbreviations used in space-limited contexts. The National Rail station code is KGX.
History:
The area of King's Cross was previously a village known as Battle Bridge which was an ancient crossing of the River Fleet, originally known as Broad Ford, later Bradford Bridge. The river flowed along what is now the west side of Pancras Road until it was rerouted underground in 1825. The name Battle Bridge is linked to tradition that this was the site of a major battle between the Romans and the Celtic British Iceni tribe led by Boudica. According to folklore, King's Cross is the site of Boudica's final battle and some sources say she is buried under one of the platforms. Platforms 9 and 10 have been suggested as possible sites. Boudica's ghost is also reported to haunt passages under the station, around platforms 8–10.
Four train operating companies run services from King's Cross:
London North Eastern Railway operates high speed inter-city services along the East Coast Main Line.
Thameslink and Great Northern operates outer-suburban services to North London, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and West Norfolk.
Hull Trains operates daily inter-city services to Hull and a limited weekday service to Beverley via the East Coast Main Line. Unlike other train companies in FirstGroup, Hull Trains operates under an open-access arrangement and is not a franchised train operating company.
Grand Central operates inter-city services to Bradford and Sunderland along the East Coast Main Line and is an open-access operator. On 23 May 2010 it began services to Bradford Interchange via Halifax, Brighouse, Mirfield, Wakefield, Pontefract and Doncaster which had originally been due to begin in December 2009.

According to Travel and Leisure magazine, the best city in the world right now you could visit is San Miguel de Allende in Mexico, followed by Charleston in the USA, followed by Chiang Mai in Thailand. These three places, however, don’t even get on the top 20 places to actually live, in this year’s Quality of Living Index, a yearly list compiled by HR firm, Mercer. Apparently, if you want to live the good life, you should move to Vienna, Austria, Zurich, Switzerland, or Auckland, New Zealand. The top twenty list doesn’t include any cities from the UK or the USA, two countries that have arguably been the two heavyweights in the last century regarding power and wealth. These two countries, however, contain cities that attract millions of overseas visitors every year. Today we are going to compare them, in this episode of the Infographics Show, New York City vs London.
