Short and Skiweet - A day on the Swiss Alps
Whilst I struggle with the task of creating our Thailand adventure, I was able to quickly whip up a fun little edit with some very average footage of our 1 and only day on the slopes in Switzerland.
Money saver tip - If you're keen for a day on the slopes in Switzerland, check the early season. Many resorts offer deals with hotels which include free ski day passes if you stay between certain dates. The snow won't be plentiful and the whole mountain won't likely be open, but you'll get your quick fix!

Weather and Rain Gear on the Haute Route
Weather is a fickle friend for Haute Route hikers, but you have no need to fear if you come prepared. Learn how you can best prepare for your Haute Route adventure.
Video Transcript: The Haute Route is a classic trekking route through the Alps that connects Mont Blanc with the Matterhorn. It is the most scenic trek in Europe. There is nothing like it. Along the way on the Haute Route, you will pass within view of the 14 highest peaks in the Alps. But not every day in the Alps is as beautiful as today. So let’s take some time right now to talk about weather and raingear on the Haute Route. In the Alps they experience a much wider range of seasonal conditions and conditions from day to day compared to what we see in the US. And since you are often gaining between 3,000-5,000 vertical feet per day, you are going to see a lot of variation in temperature and weather based on elevation. Watching the weather is a daily adventure in the Alps and you will want to check the weather forecast daily. I find the Meteo Suisse and Landi forecast to be surprisingly accurate. Now let’s talk about rain. In any given week on the Haute Route you should expect to have at least one day of rain. What I recommend is carrying a light weight set of packable raingear preferably something under 12 ounces per piece) It should be waterproof and breathable and have pit-zip ventilation. I store them at the bottom of my pack along with my pack cover. They are about the size of my fist so they are not in the way but they are also easy to pull out at a moment’s notice if it starts to rain. As always, if I can be of any help in planning your Haute Route adventure, please let us know. We would love to have you join us in the Alps on one of our guided trips or on a self-guided basis. This is Greg Witt with Alpenwild. See you on the trail.
Moments in the Swiss Alps 9 - Lauterbrunnen valley, a walk along the river
Join me when I visit the magical valley of Lauterbrunnen in the Swiss Alps. Besides the many waterfalls in the valley there is also the alpine river Lütschine flowing through the valley and collecting all the water from the glaciers around. Its wild, romantic beauty makes you feel alive and its vibrant energy cleanses all the heavy stuff you bring with you from everyday life in the town.
I am a Swiss artist and it's my pleasure to share moments of deep connection with the beauty of nature with you.
