Jerusalem of Gold - Yerushalayim shel Zahav -Ofra Haza- with English Lyrics
Jerusalem of Gold (Hebrew: ירושלים של זהב, Yerushalayim Shel Zahav) is a popular Israeli song written by Naomi Shemer in 1967. The original song described the Jewish people's 2000-year longing to return to Jerusalem; Shemer added a final verse after the Six-Day War to celebrate Jerusalem's unification under Israeli control.
At that time, the Old City was under Jordanian rule; Jews had been barred from entering, and many holy sites had been desecrated. Only three weeks after the song was published, the Six-Day War broke out. The song was the battle cry and morale booster of the Israeli troops. Shemer even sang it for them before the war and festival, making them among the first in the world to hear it. On 7 June, the Israel Defense Forces captured the eastern part of Jerusalem and the Old City from the Jordanians. When Shemer heard the paratroopers singing Jerusalem of Gold at the Western Wall, she wrote a final verse, reversing the phrases of lamentation found in the second verse. The line about shofars sounding from the Temple Mount is a reference to an event that actually took place on 7 June.
This beautiful version is from the late OFRA HAZA.

The pictures used in this video were taken by me during my visits in Israel between 2011-2016. The purpose of this video is to encourage you to (re)visit Israel and to support the Jewish people in these hard times. If you like it, please feel free to share it.
Jerusalem of Gold (Hebrew: ירושלים של זהב, Yerushalayim Shel Zahav) is an Israeli song written by Naomi Shemer. It is also the unofficial national anthem of Israel, often contrasted with the secular Hatikva. The original song described the Jewish people's 2,000-year longing to return to Jerusalem; Shemer added a final verse after the Six-Day War to celebrate Jerusalem's re-unification, when Israel had conquered East Jerusalem after this part of the city had been under Jordanian control for 19 years.
The late Israeli singer Ofra Haza sang one of the most popular versions of the song at Pa'amonei HaYovel (Bells of the Jubilee), Israel's 50th Anniversary celebration in 1998.
The song is featured in the 1993 American film Schindler's List and plays near the end of the film. (source:

Israel: Jerusalem – City of Gold
There are many reasons to visit Jerusalem – religion, history, architecture, cuisine, just to name a few. But it’s the City’s antiquity – layer upon layer of civilization – built and destroyed and built again, that renders Jerusalem so challenging and so fascinating. Our exploration of the City reveals its history from a Canaanite village over 5,000 years ago, to an important centre of the Jewish world, the impact of King Herod, the destruction by the Romans, the conquest by Muslim soldiers and its position today as a spiritual centre for Jews, Christians and Muslims. Upper Room Overview Tour, Last Supper, Pentecost, Jerusalem, Israel, Mt. Zion, Holy Land
See an overview of the Upper Room and all that happened before Christ's suffering and crucifixion!
Location
1. The Upper Room is in a second-story building in Jerusalem that commemorates where Jesus shared the Passover (Last Supper) with His disciples.
2. It is located directly above the Tomb of David and near the Dormition Abbey on Mount Zion.
3. It is also called the Cenacle Room, which means “dining room” in Latin.
4. On the first floor of the building is King David’s Tomb. It functions as a synagogue so a head covering for men must be worn. It is divided into three sections: (1) a small synagogue room (2) a men’s viewing area of David’s tomb, and (3) a women’s viewing area of the tomb.
5. The location of David's Tomb is likely just a memorial place as Scripture says he was buried in the City of David (1Kings 2:10).
Historical Background
1. The Upper Room is believed to be the location of the first Christian church.
2. Archaeological research reveals the Upper Room is built on top of a church-synagogue built by the first-century Jewish-Christian community of Jerusalem.
3. The location of the Upper Room has been the traditional site of the Last Supper since the fourth century AD.
4. In the 5th century, the church was referred to as Zion, Mother of all the Churches.”
5. The Upper Room that pilgrims visit today was built by the Crusaders in the 12th century as part of the Church of St. Mary of Zion. The Gothic-era columns seen today were from this time era.
6. The buildings around the Upper Room are remains of a Franciscan medieval friary from around 1335.
7. The Upper Room was transformed into a mosque by the Ottomans in 1524, and a prayer niche is embedded on the south wall, directed towards the Islam cities of Mecca and Medina.
8. The Upper Room building is currently managed by the State of Israel Ministry of the Interior.
9. It’s very likely that the Upper Room was used for more than the Passover meal. It could also have been where Christ appeared to His disciples after His resurrection, where Matthias was appointed the apostle to replace Judas, and where the disciples stayed while waiting for Pentecost. Some believe it’s also where Pentecost happened or began.
10. It seems logical that all these events shared the same Upper Room as the man who allowed Christ to use his large room for the Passover meal was probably a follower of Christ who continued to allow the disciples to use it.

With the sound of bells.

A dream enfolds them all.
So solitary lies the city,
And at its heart there is a wall.

Jerusalem of gold - Friends of Zion “Annual Night of Heroes”
At the Friends of Zion “Annual Night of Heroes”, American and Israeli officials stood together and commemorated both the One-Year Anniversary of the Opening of the US Embassy in Jerusalem as well as the song “Jerusalem of Gold”, in honor of Israel’s eternal capital - Jerusalem.
Bible Overview of Old City Jerusalem, Mt of Olives, Western Wall, Via Dolorosa, History of Jerusalem
What makes Jerusalem so unique and special? Here's a must-see video of the special purpose and events God did and will do in Jerusalem.
Jerusalem means “City of Peace.” It’s mentioned over 500 times in the Bible.
Jerusalem is the special dwelling place of God on this earth. Psalms 76:2: His tent is in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion.
Psalm 135:21: Praise be to the LORD from Zion, to him who dwells in Jerusalem. Praise the LORD.
It was in Jerusalem, on Mount Moriah, that Abraham was to offer Isaac, his firstborn son to God, on the very place the temple would later be built.

4. It was later destroyed by Muslims in 1010.
5. It was rebuilt by the Crusaders in 1102 and given its present name.
6. It was destroyed in 1219 by the Turks.
7. Later, a chapel was built in 1300.
8. The church fell in ruins again by 1320.
9. The church that exists today was rebuilt in 1931.
Places of Interest
1. In the Courtyard of the church is a statue that recalls the events of Peter’s denial of Jesus. It shows Peter, the rooster that crowed, a maid, a servant, and a Roman soldier.
2. On the roof of the church is a rooster on a black cross, a symbol of Peter’s denial of Christ before the cock crowed.
3. The main sanctuary, located on the first floor, contains large multi-colored mosaics portraying figures from the New Testament.
4. On the second floor is a chapel that utilizes stone from ancient grottos as its walls. It also has mosaics from a 5th-century Byzantine church that previously existed at this site.
5. Above the cistern is the Guard Room. It overlooks the cistern (dungeon).
6. On the lower floor is a cistern (dungeon) where it’s believed Christ was placed the night after He was tried and condemned by Caiaphas.
7. Ruins and excavations outside the church at ground level.
8. A walkway with steps that run beside the church that was used for ascending and descending from Mount Zion to the Kidron Valley.
• They were most likely used by Jesus and His disciples as they went from the Upper Room, where they celebrated the Passover meal on Mount Zion, to the Garden of Gethsemane.
• Later, Christ would use these same steps as He was brought from Gethsemane, which led through the Kidron Valley, to the House of Caiaphas.
9. Upper viewing area where many sites can be seen. One of them is the Akeldama Monastery, which marks the place called the Field of Blood. The religious leaders purchased this property with the money Judas through at their feet just before he went and hanged himself.

Garden Tomb, Gordon's Golgotha, Jerusalem Israel: Crucifixion, Resurrection, Ascension of Christ!
Learn about what happened from the resurrection to the ascension of Christ. A detailed look at the Garden Tomb site in Jerusalem, Israel. Filmed in Jerusalem at the Gordon's Golgotha, Garden Tomb. By HolyLandSite.com
Location
1. Gordan’s Garden Tomb is located just 250 yards (220 m.) to the north of the Damascus Gate of Old City Jerusalem.
2. It provides a serene setting in a garden-like place to meditate and reflect upon the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.
3. It is considered by many as the true location of Golgotha.
4. The traditional location of Golgotha is at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
5. Both places have evidence of being the location of Golgotha. However, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre has more tradition and activity surrounding it.
6. Both places are within a stone’s throw of each other so regardless of the location we are still in close vicinity of Golgotha.
7. Because we worship a person and not a place, the exact location is not necessary for understanding and reflecting on what Christ did for us at Golgotha.

Naomi Shemer - Shuli Nathan - Yeroushalayim shel zahav - ירושלים של זהב
The mountain air is clear as wine
The scent of pines around
Is carried on the breeze of twilight,
And tinkling bells resound.
The trees and stones there softly slumber,
A dream enfolds them all.
So solitary lies the city,
And at its heart -- a wall.
Oh, Jerusalem of gold,
and of light and of bronze,
I am the lute for all your songs
The wells are filled again with water,
The square with joyous crowd,
On the Temple Mount within the City,
The shofar rings out loud.
Within the caverns in the mountains
A thousand suns will glow,
We'll take the Dead Sea road together,
That runs through Jericho.
Oh, Jerusalem of gold,
and of light and of bronze,
I am the lute for all your songs.
But as I sing to you, my city,
And you with crowns adorn,
I am the least of all your children,
Of all the poets born.
Your name will scorch my lips for ever,
Like a seraph's kiss, I'm told,
If I forget thee, golden city,
Jerusalem of gold.
Oh, Jerusalem of gold,

I am the lute for all your songs.
Toi qui es toute d'or.
