Kantishna-Denali Alaska
5 plus hours on the Denali Bus to Kantishna. Two nights stay at the Kantishna Air Taxi Lodge with the tour pilots. Then an hour flight back on a 10 Best Days weather condition thru the mountains and glaciers right in the face of the mighty Denali Peak. What an experience. August 2015.
Visiting Denali National Park and Preserve, National park in Alaska, United States
Denali /dɨˈnaːli/ (also known as Mount McKinley, its former official name)[6] is the highest mountain peak in North America, with a summit elevation of 20,310 feet (6,190.5 m) above sea level. At some 18,000 ft (5,500 m), the base-to-peak rise is the largest of any mountain situated entirely above sea level.[7] With a topographic prominence of 20,156 feet (6,144 m) and a topographic isolation of 4,629 miles (7,450 km), Denali is the third most prominent and third most isolated peak after Mount Everest and Aconcagua. Located in the Alaska Range in the interior of the U.S. state of Alaska, Denali is the centerpiece of Denali National Park and Preserve. For more info, visit this link:

EPIC BACKCOUNTRY HIKE IN DENALI NATIONAL PARK AND PRESERVE
Had an amazing time in the backcountry of Denali National Park and Preserve. We were fortunate enough to fly out with Kantishna Air Tax and spend some time at their lodge before our hike. We took the long 6 hour bus ride back to the beginning of the park for our way back.

This video was created by Wrangell-St. Elias National Park.
Wrangell–St. Elias National Park and Preserve is a United States national park and national preserve managed by the National Park Service in south central Alaska. The park and preserve was established in 1980 by the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act.[3] This protected area is included in an International Biosphere Reserve and is part of the Kluane/Wrangell–St. Elias/Glacier Bay/Tatshenshini-Alsek UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park and preserve form the largest area managed by the National Park Service in the United States by area with a total of 13,175,799 acres (20,587.186 sq mi; 53,320.57 km2), an expanse that could encapsulate a total of six Yellowstone National Parks.[4] The park includes a large portion of the Saint Elias Mountains, which include most of the highest peaks in the United States and Canada, yet are within 10 miles (16 km) of tidewater, one of the highest reliefs in the world. Wrangell–St. Elias borders on Canada's Kluane National Park and Reserve to the east and approaches the U.S. Glacier Bay National Park to the south. The chief distinction between park and preserve lands is that sport hunting is prohibited in the park and permitted in the preserve. In addition, 9,078,675 acres (3,674,009 ha) of the park are designated as the largest single wilderness in the United States.
Wrangell–St. Elias National Monument was initially designated on December 1, 1978, by President Jimmy Carter using the Antiquities Act, pending final legislation to resolve the allotment of public lands in Alaska. Establishment as a national park and preserve followed the passage of the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act in 1980. The park, which is bigger than the country Switzerland, has long, extremely cold winters and a short summer season. It supports a variety of large mammals in an environment defined by relative land elevation. Plate tectonics are responsible for the uplift of the mountain ranges that cross the park. The park's extreme high point is Mount St. Elias at 18,008 feet (5,489 m), the second tallest mountain in both the United States and Canada. The park has been shaped by the competing forces of volcanism and glaciation. Mount Wrangell is an active volcano, one of several volcanoes in the western Wrangell Mountains. In the St. Elias Range Mount Churchill has erupted explosively within the past 2,000 years. The park's glacial features include Malaspina Glacier, the largest piedmont glacier in North America, Hubbard Glacier, the longest tidewater glacier in Alaska, and Nabesna Glacier, the world's longest valley glacier. The Bagley Icefield covers much of the park's interior, which includes 60% of the permanently ice-covered terrain in Alaska. At the center of the park, the boomtown of Kennecott exploited one of the world's richest deposits of copper from 1903 to 1938, exposed by and in part incorporated into Kennicott Glacier. The mine buildings and mills, now abandoned, compose a National Historic Landmark district.

Along the way we spot many grizzlies, caribou, short eared owls, marmots and many other critters but unfortunately the weather hid the Denali, formerly known as Mt. McKinley from our view. denali national park visit - 1 of 2 (saw the big 5 animals of the 6)
denali national park visit - (saw big 5 animals of the 6)
2 days 1 night, saw bears, caribou, moose, sheep dall and white wolf. missed red fox.
2015 Denali national park trip - 2 days 1 night Saturday 8/22/2015 (rain on and off)
Arrive at Anchorage airport 9:30pm, the sunset was about 11:30pm.
Drive 3+ hours to Denali National Park and checked into Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge at 4pm on 8/22/2015 Sat. It was raining on and off. 24 hours cancellation for shuttle bus.
We hiked around the Denali Visitor Center for 0.5 mile along the Spruce Forest trail to a bridge and then to a suspension bridge to the small river creek side.
Drove 10 miles west to the savage river and hiked 1 hour for the savage river loop trail (2 miles), there is a road bridge half way for you to make a U turn by crossing the savage river and canyon.
We then drove 1 mile to Mountain Vista (meadow and mountains overlook) on east bound (right side).
On our way back to the Denali Visitor Center we encountered moose on our way back at about mile post 6 of the Denali National Park road.
We then hiked another 2 hours at the Horseshoe lake trail (3.2 miles eachway?) and along Nenana river and back to the parking lot next to the railroad track.
On Sunday 8/23/2015, we took the Green Denali shuttle bus at 6:30am at Wilderness Access Center (mile post 1 on the Denali National Park road) to Eielson Visitor center ($35 each person) for 9 hours (6:30am – 3:30pm). We watched a free short film at the Eielson visitor center to see how people climbed the Mt. McKinley (over 20K feet) – the tallest mountain in North America.
In the 9 hours bus ride, we saw the big 5 animals of the 6 animals. The bus driver commented the last time he saw the Big 5 was 5 years ago, so we were extremely lucky that day.

Scenic Shuttle Ride in Alaska's Denali National Park
The shuttle driver stopped often on the Park Road for wildlife viewing, photo ops, rest stops and to pick up hikers. The building at the start of the video is the Wilderness Access Center in Denali National Park where shuttle tickets are sold and the shuttles are boarded. The Park Ranger who boarded the shuttle at Mile 14 is about as enthusiastic a Park Ranger as I've ever seen. Clearly loves her job!
The Toklat River at Mile 53 is the final stop for the Toklat shuttle. The Eielson Visitor Center is located at Mile 66 and may be reached by the Eielsen shuttle, which didn't start running this year until June 1. My ride to Toklat was on May 31, 2017. The round trip to Toklat took 6 hours. The round trip to Eielsen by shuttle takes 9 hours. Private vehicles aren't allowed on the Denali Park Road beyond Mile 14.
