The Mughal Emperor Akbar had once named it
Illahabad, or the city of God, which the British
changed to Allahabad. Mark Twain, the American author, referred to it as Godville. Recently, Allahabad has been renamed as Prayagraj.
Prayagraj became the capital of the North-Western Provinces in 1858, and was the capital of India for a day.
The city played an important role in the Revolt of
1857. Subsequently, it played a pivotal role in the freedom movement.
Our Trip lasted for 2 days. This video is about the first day.

This time Kaushal and his four friends visited Kumbh Mela 2019 held in Prayagraaj (Allahabad). Abhilasha and Araina did not accompany him. It was a day long tour of Kumbh.
Kumbh Mela is a mass Hindu pilgrimage of faith where millions of pilgrims gather to bathe to wash away their sins. The four Kumbh Melas are : the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela, Haridwar Kumbh Mela, the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha, and Ujjain Simhastha.
These four fairs are held periodically at one of the following places by rotation: Allahabad (Prayagraj), Haridwar, Nashik district (Nashik and Trimbak), and Ujjain. The main festival site is located on the banks of a river: the Ganges (Ganga) at Haridwar; the confluence (Sangam) of the Ganges and the Yamuna and the invisible Sarasvati at Allahabad; the Godavari at Nashik; and the Shipra at Ujjain.
At any given place, the Kumbh Mela is held every 12 years. There is a difference of around 3 years between the Kumbh Melas at Haridwar and Nashik; the fairs at Nashik and Ujjain are celebrated in the same year or one year apart.

कुंभ पर्व हिंदू धर्म का एक महत्वपूर्ण पर्व है, जिसमें करोड़ों श्रद्धालु कुंभ पर्व स्थल हरिद्वार, प्रयाग, उज्जैन और नासिक में स्नान करते हैं। इनमें से प्रत्येक स्थान पर प्रति बारहवें वर्ष और प्रयाग में दो कुंभ पर्वों के बीच छह वर्ष के अंतराल में अर्धकुंभ भी होता है।

A day in Prayagraj (Allahabad) | Street food plus city Tour
Prayagraj is famous for Kumbh mela, that happens every 12 years. Millions of people come to Allahabad for dip in holy water.
We travelled to Allahabad for a day, started our journey by taking a dip in holy waters, there after explored street food of Allahabad.
Imp. information for travellers: It took us about 3 and a half hour to travel distance of 120 km on taxi between Varanasi to Allahabad.
Though you can do up and down from Varanasi to Allahabad on the same day but it will be better if you do a night halt there and come back on next day.

कुंभ नगरी प्रयागराज में आप सभी का स्वागत है। 15 जनवरी 2019 दिन मंगलवार मकर संक्रांति के पवित्र अवसर पर प्रथम शाही स्नान के साथ ही महाकुंभ का प्रारम्भ होगा। 21 जनवरी को पौस पूर्णिमा, 4 फरवरी को मौनी अमावस्या, 10 फरवरी को बसंत पंचमी एवं 19 फरवरी को माघ पूर्णिमा पर असंख्य जनसमूह प्रयागराज के कुंभ क्षेत्र में संगठित होगा। 48 दिनों तक चलने वाले इस महा स्नान का समापन होगा 4 मार्च दिन सोमवार महाशिवरात्रि के दिन।
सैकड़ों वर्षों से चले आ रहे महाकुंभ में इस बार स्वच्छता अभियान को केंद्र में रखते हुए भारत के वर्तमान प्रधानमंत्री आदरणीय नरेंद्र मोदी जी ने 40 करोड़ से भी अधिक की धनराशि का वितरण किया है। पूरे कुंभ क्षेत्र को 4 टेंट खंडों में बांटा जाएगा। जिनके क्रमशः नाम होंगे कल्पवृक्ष, कुंभ कैनवास, वैदिक टेंट सिटी एवं इंद्रप्रस्थम सिटी। हर खंड में टेंट में निवास करने वाले कल्प वासियों के लिए पानी, बिजली, खाना बनाने के लिए गैस एवं शौचालय एवं नित्य कर्म से निवृत्त होने के लिए विशाल संख्या में पुनर निर्मित शौचालय कोटरों को स्थापित किया जाएगा। घाटों को सुरक्षित एवं दृढ़ बनाने के लिए प्लास्टिक के पीपों को जोड़कर सुरक्षित सीमा रेखा का निर्माण किया जाएगा ताकि लोग गहरे पानी में स्नान करने का खतरा ना उठाएं। पूरे घाट पर जल पुलिस नौका संसाधनों के द्वारा अपनी सतर्कता बनाए रखेगी। किसी भी आपातकालीन स्थिति से निपटने के लिए कर्मचारियों को स्ट्रीमर चलाने का प्रशिक्षण दिया जा रहा है।
कुंभ को पूरी तरह से सुरक्षित बनाने के लिए जगह जगह पर अग्निशमन केंद्रों का निर्माण किया गया है। किसी भी तरह के आपराधिक एवं आपातकालीन स्थिति से निपटने के लिए कई पुलिस चौकियां स्थापित की गई हैं।
नदी पार करने के लिए लोहे के विशाल पीपों को आपस में जोड़कर अस्थाई सेतुओं का निर्माण किया गया है। जिनकी अधिकतम क्षमता है 5 टन। अर्थात इस पुल से विशाल भीड़ के साथ-साथ आवागमन के साधन आसानी से स्थानांतरित हो सकते हैं।
लोग साफ सफाई के प्रति पूरी तरह से प्रतिबंध रहे इसके लिए जगह जगह पर प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी जी का आकार चित्र भी लगाया गया है।
नौकाओं के लिए एक विशेष घाट होगा। विशेष व्यक्तियों के लिए वीआईपी घाटों की व्यवस्था की जाएगी। एंबुलेंस, मीडिया एवं पुलिस कर्मचारियों की गाड़ियों को कुंभ क्षेत्र में स्थानांतरित होने के लिए रेतीली मिट्टी के ऊपर लोहे की चादरें बिछाई जा रहीं हैं।
संगम वह क्षेत्र है जहां पर गंगा एवं यमुना के जल का आपस में समागम होता है। इसलिए सबसे अधिक महत्वपूर्ण क्षेत्र इसी को माना जाता है। यहां स्नान करने के लिए श्रद्धालुओं की अपार भीड़ एकत्रित होती है इसलिए अधिक से अधिक लोग संगम के इस क्षेत्र तक पहुंच कर स्नान का आनंद उठा सकें इसके लिए बुलडोजर, ट्रैक्टर आदि मशीनी उपकरणों से रेतीली जमीन को और अधिक ठोस बनाने का काम बड़ी तेजी से संपन्न किया जा रहा है। प्रयास यह है कि गंगा एवं यमुना का जल जहां पर मिलता है वहां घाटों का चौड़ीकरण कर दिया जाए। ताकि ज्यादा से ज्यादा संख्या में लोग स्नान करके अपने गंतव्य की तरफ प्रस्थान कर सकें।
ठंड का मौसम आते ही सीगुल पक्षियों के विशाल झुंड का आगमन होता है। सुबह से शाम तक यह पक्षी घाट के आसपास मंडराते रहते हैं जो भी श्रद्धालु यहां पर स्नान या फिर भ्रमण करने के लिए आते हैं वह पक्षियों को अपने हाथों से दाना खिलाते हैं। यह दृश्य इतना अद्भुत होता है कि आप इसका आनंद उठाने से स्वयं को रोक नहीं पाते।
संगम तक पहुंचने के लिए सबसे निकटवर्ती रेलवे स्टेशन है प्रयाग घाट टर्मिनल। जिसका निर्माण कार्य बहुत तेजी से चल रहा है। संभावना है कि महाकुंभ के प्रारंभ होने से पहले यह टर्मिनल अपनी पूरी क्षमता पर कार्य करने लगेगा।
प्रयागराज के इतिहास एवं इसके पौराणिक महत्व से लोगों को परिचय कराने के लिए पेंट माय सिटी योजना के द्वारा कुंभ क्षेत्र के आसपास की दिवालें, स्टेशन परिसर इत्यादि को भिन्न-भिन्न तरह के रंग बिरंगी चित्रों से भव्य बनाया जा रहा है। इस बार का महाकुंभ निश्चय ही एक नए भारत के उन्नयन एवं उत्थान का प्रतीक बनकर उभरेगा।
इस महापर्व को सफल बनाने की जिम्मेदारी सिर्फ सरकार की ही नहीं बल्कि हम सभी की है तो आइए इसी के साथ इस वीडियो के माध्यम से हम यह प्रण लें कि इस बार का महाकुंभ पूरी स्वच्छता के साथ संपन्न होगा। ना तो हम किसी तरह की गंदगी फैलाएंगे और ना ही दूसरों को ऐसा करने के लिए प्रेरित करेंगे।

#jaysenjx (that me), my sister Jaya and her friend Sabby planned to visit Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj (Allahabad). We started our journey at 1 AM from New Delhi and reached Allahabad around 12:30 PM.
We started our #roadtrip journey with my Sister's car #Maruti Alto 800 from Mehrauli and filled CNG at PTS pump. Then at Jasola we filled Nitrogen gas in Tyres and took Yamuna Expressway to reach Agra. After that we took left on NH19 towards Tundla and around 5 kms we got CNG pump. Then we continued our trip on NH19 and road from Agra to Etawah was not good.
(You can take alternative route from Agra take Agra-Lucknow expressway and get down at Etawah exit this will save your time).
After Etawa the roads were nice and we got another CNG pump 18 kms before Kanpur. We enjoyed the trip and our maximum speed was 130 km/hr where we crossed many big cars and they were not able to cross us further. Finally we reached Kaushambi around 12:15 PM.

A sea of humanity swamped the Kumbh Nagari here on Monday as lakhs of pilgrims led by ascetics of Hindu sects took a holy dip on what was the second and most auspicious ‘shahi snan' on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya. Traditionally the biggest of all the sacred bathing days in the 50-day long Mela, Mauni Amavasya this time holds greater significance as it falls on a Monday and that too during the Kumbh – a rather rare combination on many accounts.

Welcome to the wonderful city of Allahabad or as it is known as today, Prayagraj. This time of the year Allahabad is flooded with people from all over the world who are here to witness the famous Kumbh Mela.
First stop- the famous, Jagram Sweets.
This place is known for two things- milkcake and motichoor ladoo. We got our hands on both these sweets and for a minute we forgot that we were in front of a camera. These sweets are not just mouth watering, they’re melt-in-the-knees delicious. The milkcake is simply made by cooking cooking milk and sugar over a slow fire for a very long time, which is what makes the milkcake so brown and so yummy. The motichoor ladoos literally disintegrate in your mouth, I mean if this is the kind of prasad people in Allahabad get, we are shifting right this moment!
Second stop- Netaram Moolchand & Sweet Shop
The tiny jalebis are fried in desi ghee and then dunked in sugar syrup. We tried all that they had to offer which was- Poori/ Kachori stuffed with moong dal and some spices, along with dum aloo sabzi, aloo baigan sabzi/ potato and eggplant, imly chutney, raita, gobhi matar sabzi/ cauliflower and peas, and some plain yoghurt.
Third stop- Hira Halwai
Here we had something sweet as well as something savoury. We tried the lovely Gujiya, which is, to our delight, available all year round at this shop. Gujiya is a sweet dumpling made from flour pockets stuffed with khoya and dry fruits, and is then deep fried. The gujiya here is super flaky and crisp. We then ate the samosas that are unique to Allahabad. The stuffing of these is quite unique. They are stuffed with a mixture of boiled potatoes cooked with panch phoran/ five spices- this consists of cumin, fennel, black mustard, fenugreek and nigella seeds. The mixture is topped with some dried mango powder and mint. These samosas have a very unique flavour and are absolutely delicious.
Fourth stop - Sri Sainik Sweets
Have you ever heard of a sweet made of spinach!? Well we hadn’t either until we learnt about the Palak halwa at Sri Sainik Sweets. Out of the weirdest flavours of halwa, we tried the palak/spinach halwa, kaala gajar/black carrot halwa and papita/papaya halwa.
Fifth stop - Bhunja
If ever you are just roaming around on the streets of Allahabad and wish to snack on tid-bits, this is what you are looking for. Bhunja is a mixture of puffed rice, peanuts, chana, onion, amla chutney and a few spices.
Sixth stop - Baati Chokha Cart
If you are in U.P., Baati chokha is one of the most common dishes you will find on the streets apart from kachori and jalebi. Baati is dough balls made of whole wheat flour and stuffed with sattu (roasted gram flour) and mixed with herbs and spices. These dough balls our roasted over cow dung cakes, cleaned and then given a generous coating of ghee. They are served with a side of chokha which is made from roasted eggplants, boiled potatoes, tomatoes, mustard oil and spices.
Seventh stop- Yadav Sakoda
Sakoda is basically a pakora or a fritter. Here it is made of Urad dal, Palak, besan and a couple of spices. It is then soaked in a rassa/soup which is super hot. The amount of chilli in this dish is insane, but people are nicely slurping away and gouging down the sakoda like it is nothing. Even though the dish is super hot it is very flavourful and keeps you craving for more.
Eighth stop- Allahabad Famous Churmrura Corner
The concept of churmura is supposed to have been originated from here. Churmura is a mixture of puffed rice, peanuts, roasted peas, onions, a lot of spices- (here) 24 to be exact, and a spritz of lemon juice to liven things up.
Ninth stop- Lalloo Pan Bhandar
As they say “U.P. aaye aur Paan nahi khaaye, toh kya khaak U.P. aaye!” so we had to get our hands on some paan but before that for all the cold drink fanatics Lalloo Pan Bhandar has it covered. They serve masala cold drink which is usually a coke or pepsi mixed with a couple of spices and lemon. The drink is super refreshing and is quite the digestive as well.
