Vanlife Valley Of Fire State Park and Lake Mead National Recreation Area Nevada Camping
Boondocking at Lake Mead National Recreation Area and camping at Valley of Fire State Park are one of our favorite ways to enjoy the Nevada USA desert near Las Vegas!
We got stuck in the sand at Lake Mead and were so grateful for the group of overlanders from Germany who also camped out nearby at the Lake. They helped us out to get our van out of the loose sand. Other than that it was a very peaceful couple of days of dry camping at Lake Mead and at the nearby Valley of Fire State Park where we also enjoyed a couple great hikes.
Boondocking at Lake Mead National Recreation Area is free with an annual America The Beautiful Pass and Valley of Fire State Park has first-come, first-served only sites. Check out their regulations and info here:

Spring break 2019 at Lake Mead National Recreation Area
Spring break 2019 at Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Interestingly, Lake Mead is the largest reservoir in the United States, spanning over 110 miles long in Nevada and Arizona. When Lake Mead is at its fullest, it boasts 759 miles of shoreline, is 532 feet deep, has 247 square miles of surface and an astounding 28 million-acre feet of water. There's a big contrast between the unforgiving dry desert environment and the cool refreshing waters of Lake Mead.

Lake Mead National Recreation Area
When you consider Las Vegas and the area surrounding it, a national park isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. But that’s exactly what Lake Mead National Recreation Area is – a part of America’s diverse national park system. In fact, Lake Mead was America's FIRST national recreation area.
The park is BIG – over 2,300 square miles. It has an enormous catalog of natural and cultural resources within its borders. It's best known for it's boating, fishing and watersports.
And of course, within the park is an enormous icon of American history and ingenuity – Hoover Dam.

Lake Mead National Recreation Area Las Vegas, Nevada USA | Travel videos Guide
Lake Mead National Recreation Area is a U.S. National Recreation Area located in southeastern Nevada and northwestern Arizona. Operated by the National Park Service, Lake Mead NRA follows the Colorado River corridor from the westernmost boundary of Grand Canyon National Park to just north of the cities of Laughlin, Nevada and Bullhead City, Arizona. It includes all of the eponymous Lake Mead as well as the smaller Lake Mohave – reservoirs on the river created by Hoover Dam and Davis Dam, respectively – and the surrounding desert terrain and wilderness.[4] More info visit:

Arizona to Lake Mead National Recreational Area - YouTube Travel
Really if you look at America, aside of the great beauty there are areas that have extreme swings in weather and other conditions that make life less than easy.
Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada have deserts and drought compounded by relentless heat at least in the summer months.
Spring in the Midwest is tornado season of which there were a record number this year. The Atlantic coast and Gulf States can be hammered by tropical depressions and in worst case by hurricanes. Northern States face cold and snow for many months of the year with states around the Great Lakes having occasional snow falls measured in feet or meters..And then there is the West Coast, prone to earthquakes of which another major one is overdue.
Exploring Nevada #8 (S.E. Nevada) Lake Mead
First, we'll visit Goldfield, Tonopah, Warm Springs, Echo Canyon Reservoir, Rachel, Tempiute, Hiko, Key Pittman Wildlife Management Area, Nesbitt Lake, Crystal Springs, Ash Springs, Alamo, Caliente, Panaca, Bullionville, Cathedral Gorge State Park, Prince, Caselton Heights, Caselton, Bristol Wells, Atlanta, Pioche, Echo Canyon State Park, Ursene, Eagle Valley Reservoir in Spring Valley State Park, Kershaw-Ryan State Park, Elgin, Lyman Crossing, Carp, the Tule Desert, Riverside, Bunkerville, Mesquite, Glendale, Moapa, Logandale, Overton, Valley of Fire State Park; then at Lake Mead we'll see Overton Beach, Stewarts Point, Echo Bay, Callville Bay, and Las Vegas Bay. Lake Las Vegas in next, then Henderson, Boulder City, Hoover Dam, Nelson, and Nelson's Landing near Lake Mohave.
Arizona Hot Springs Hike, Lake Mead National Park
The Arizona Hot Springs comprises of 4 pools of water ranging from 100 degrees Fahrenheit to 111 degrees at the source. The source provides mineralized water to the pools at an astonishing 30 gallons per minute. If you venture down the ladder, near the last pool, you will have a 1,000-foot walk to the Colorado River. I have done this several times and it is such an amazing sight to see the river at the end of the trail.
The hike is 6 miles round trip and there are two routes that you can take. I have only done the Hot Spring Canyon Trail. I hear that the White Rock Canyon Trail is just as beautiful. I may try that route in a few weeks and update you with a video on Instagram.
I will be creating a hot spring guide soon. It will include everything you need to know about hot spring etiquette, hot to get to certain hot springs and what you need before you go. You can get the complete guide and other guides by subscribing as a Patreon. (Only $1).
There will be a small printable available to those who subscribe to my email list on my website.

Lake Mead National Recreation Area & Hoover Dam
It seems that most of the time when we head out West, we fly through Las Vegas, so Leak Mead has seen a lot of us in the last several years. We have driven the scenic drive to the North, hiked on the Historic Railroad Trail, cruised on Lake Mead to see the top of Hoover Dam, Toured the Dam and Visitors Center, taken an history tour on the Colorado River at the Mouth of the Black Canyon, and visited Lake Mohave to put our feet in the water. And still there is more to see!
